The economic modeling of allowing this to continue two more weeks is non-linear and complex, so I would have halted it to determine the long term business viability and plan to limit the impact of a global rollback or server mergers if determined to become necessary.

Something like this is planned and calculated for months, not allowed to occur as a by-product of a bug fix.
People were getting errors and slow transfers before they turned it off. To me that indicates a technical issue. Their Twitter yesterday said transfers are temporarily unavailable and apologized for the inconvenience. That to me doesn’t indicate a change in business decision. Maybe things have changed since but I don’t think transfers initially stopped because of a business decision. They could have just stopped free transfers and let other transfers continue if there weren’t technical issues.
