I can start launcher from taskbar, game looks like its loading, asks for my user id and password, lets me choose a server then disappears and I end up back at my desktop. I have deleted game and reinstalled but it is just the same.

I can begin the game from the taskbar, it appears to be loaded, it prompts me for my user name and password, allows me select a server, and then it disappears, returning me to my desktop. The game has been removed and reinstalled, but the issue persists.

Try using the 64-bit client.

Go into your Options when the DDO Launcher is up.

After you change to the 64-bit client, you'll need to close out the launcher and re-start it.

BTW, NEVER install DDO from Steam. I've seen WAY too many issues with the Steam install.
