Default Dungeons & Dragons Online in 2023 is Staggering

Sometimes I pull one out just to watch it die over and over. That's how much I hate hires.

(@ Devs - also, imo, a very good neutral "first impression" - worth a watch for you, too!)

Good video. I gave it a watch and a comment over on Youtube. The creator had a pretty normal experience for a new player to DDO I think. Some very valid complaints and some misunderstandings (not his fault, he's new to it). Overall a good watch and very much worth the 12 minutes of my time.

Definitely some valid criticism, though one would think an experienced YouTube game critic would do some due diligence and research DDO's history of ownership. Half the **** players experience is due to Turbine, not SSG (though there's not much improvement since).

Pretty nifty. He's so right about the look and feel of the harbor dungeons and even some of the low-level house quests feeling repetitive. Too many sewers using and reusing the same art assets (very dated and boring art at that) over and over and over again ad nauseum.

That being said, it was obvious that he was playing on one of the live servers, and not HC- so maybe SOME of his complaints about the smaller player base were not as well deserved.

I wonder what the guy would make of the HC experience, if simply dying (and needing a res) was such a shock to his system...

    Cool Interesting

    Funny but sad.

Closest thing we have had to a marketing video since 2006. which is sad. Just post this on the you tube - job done.
I actually think the catchment audience who this would appeal to is a lot of the current player base and those we would best appeal to.

I think the reality is this is a very old game, has done well to survive so long but is clinging on. They are never going to throw lots of money at it.
There is no point berating devs or hoping they will listen to requests.

At some point - I hope - there will be a new DND type game that really hits the spot and we can just start over.
HC has done one thing and that is reassure me that it is ok to start over - I don't need the best gear etc and in fact I enjoyed this game the most when I was learning it and it was at is most simple.
....Level 10 cap and if you died you lost xp and a vorpal weapon made you a God.

I stay as I like my friends on it, it feels comfortable and there is nothing better.

And he's running them for the first time!

Some of us well, let's just say we probably have spent a significant fraction of our life running these instances.

I wish there were some way for content providers to be able to jump into the end-game high reaper quests as there is such a drastic difference in game speed & excitement that these intro videos can't capture when they only evaluate the first few levels of the game.

Maybe SSG could reach out to these content providers and offer them a temporary account with a couple pre-built end-game high reaper characters. Or maybe even offer to give them a guided tour of end-game. I'll volunteer to be a guide.

Yes jumping into endgame high-reaper content with a rudimentary understanding of the system and no gameplay experience would give them so much better an impression

The first few levels of the game are also going to be the first (and possibly only) part every new player will see, so it makes sense to review them. And since every player who sticks with the game will have to play them a couple hundred times, maybe SSG should fix the problems these reviews identify instead of trying to skip past them.
