While most the time you didn't get anything major the occasional high roll to get a nice tome or rare item gave it some meaning, but I guess that was too OP lol but most the rare stuff if you had the cash you could catch it on sale and buy it anyway like mounts and most cosmetics for example.

Rather than remove them, they should have beefed them up, if improved enough even a once a week roll wouldn't be bad. But would have to be a big boost.

For example instead of 1 special potion get 5-10 higher value xp stones, rare gold roll only items like a Dimension door or invis clickie that had 3 to 5 changes and was low lvl to use, ppl would go crazy doing gold rolls for stuff like that, and replace the stat tomes that are like +4 to ugrade to a 5 forcing you to buy a 4 stat tome to even use the upgrade thats kind of a joke, a reward that cost you money wow they should be just a straight +5 same for still tomes

SSG have been saying for awhile, that VIP benefits need to increase. So earlier this year they said for the short term benefit, they will be giving out daily gold rolls while they work out what the long term benefit will be. With the companies i hafve worked for over the years, the long term benefit always arrives before the short term benefit disappears. It is called good customer relations. Unfortunately SSG have dropped the ball and either

Upper management have decided there is no additional long term benefit being added and have decided to do away with the short term benefit (to be fair they always said it was only till the end of the year)

they still haven't worked out what the new long term benefit needs to be

the third option is they have proposed many long term benefits to upper management for approval, but everyone has been declined.


I think everyone needs to individually decide if VIP is worth subscribing to. For myself i don't believe the benefits equal the cost of the subscription. Obviously other people will disagree and carry on subscribing. (but i think its poor form to attack people who have decided to unsubscribe).

during this time I became VIP for the first time, I have been playing since 2009. Prior to the daily rolls I didn't see any value in VIP since I owned all content. The daily gold rolls while yes, we were told would only be around for a short time, were worth the investment. Now that they are gone that incentive to remain VIP is gone. I hope that they find a way to make it worth while again as VIP is a reliable source of income to keep the game going but if there is no incentive, many like myself will be going back to free to play.

The first thing that makes me shun VIP is the Expansion philosophy.
If Gianthold was released today, it'd be an Expansion. It's certainly the size of certain expansions in scope and range, available in both Epic and Heroic, has raids, its own rather expansive Explorer area and public hub...
And it's free to VIPs.

Deneith chain + Three-Barrel are all part of the same Saga.
Released today, they certainly could be a mini-Expansion, like Saltmarsh. 14 quests, its own Explorer area and even unique mechanics (frankly, no matter how much I absolutely LOVE dinosaurs, taking down AIRSHIPS? The coolness factor is up to THERE)
And it's free to VIPs.

Ever since SSG took over (Ravenloft), count the number of newly released quests.
Counting raids, 71 of those are within Expansions. And 41 are within adventure packs. (3 were F2P, but those don't exactly matter)
Those 41 are the VIP perks. Slightly below 40%. That's the baseline to how much VIP is worth - access to slightly under 40% of the new content.
Released over 6 years, the total cost of which is a bit under 6K ddo points. 60$.
This means you need to either REALLY want to support SSG in their endeavor, or you think the rest of the perks (bonus experience, weekly gold roll, one quest skip per saga) to be worth 540$ over the same period, assuming you paid for yearly plans.

i recall wanting to take them up on this generous offering KNOWING it would expire. It was not intended to stay that was clear as day. Seeing many upset over this is on them.

Discussion on VIP in general might be a better approach, seems they really really loved the gold rolls.

If someone didn't get to use the free quest codes and doesn't own all the expansions. Feels bad, then yeah. There are only 2 adventure packs that have come out since the free code in 2021. Aasimar, Shifter, and Tabaxi are the only premium races. Which were all included in expansions even at the bottom tier. The only class you get as vip now is Alchemist. Unless one didn't unlock arty and favored soul with favor. Even a vip would have to buy them. But you know this.

Right now the only way to let SSG know that they need to do something about the value of VIP is for players that have all the content to unsubscribe. I did and my vip won't renew in March. I also bought all the content years ago with real money. So thanks SSG for the few free packs I didn't buy because I didn't want them. It was really a goodwill gesture for the community.
All I can say is the ball is in SSG's court and players should refrain from bashing SSG. Just let them know your ideas and unsubscribe gracefully. The worst is yet to come if there is a mass unsubscribing and people have to start answering questions about where is our revenue stream.

No I'd say SSG absolutely deserves some bashing. More than they are getting in all honesty. This was such an insanely simply thing. They didn't just drop the ball, the stepped on it with cleats, kicked the popped husk into a pile of dog poo, scraped the whole thing up, put it in a bag, and lit it on fire on the player base's collective doorstep. This is a level of failure that does not deserve the reward of people being nice.

To bel clear...they "gave us" gold rolls as a filler until the could add some new benefits. You see....VIP Value has gone steadily down over the years with the release of free quest codes etc. Tolero specifically said in an interview it was intended to be a bridge to some new benefits down the road. I haven't seen any new benefits....have you?

Come on now. Let's put this in perspective. Have they dropped the ball? Yes, but remember a large part of why VIP is considered undervalued now is because they have been so generous in the past few years with the free content codes, making premium races and classes free. These were absolutely necessary steps for an older game to appeal to anyone new coming down the path. So while I agree that those that no longer see worth in VIP are absolutely free to drop their VIP and say why, and suggest what might bring them back... I also think we can be generous enough not to insult them while they find the ball, pick it back up again and keep running.

With the daily gold roles you could easily bank enough dice XP to start at lvl 4 after a TR. It also made otto's boxes more valuable, since you could bank enough XP to get a fair way through the rest of what was needed to hit 20. For me on a normal life the last 500k XP needed to get to 20 was always the hardest, and daily gold roles eased that quite noticeably.

Then there's the actual stuff. I personally never got anything good, but in theory you could get hearts for TR, mounts, useful potions, and a lot of other good stuff. Mostly it just gave me a reason to log in every day. Quite often I'd log in for my role, see an LFM up I wanted to do, and end up playing for hours and actually grouping with people. Since the end of it I've logged in maybe twice?

I think you miss the point. It is called bait and switch. The gold rolls expired and nothing new was replaced. So how many new subscribers did they get during that period? Everyone knows once you auto enroll into a subscription, it is not easy to remove it. That is by design. Very shady.
