Or possibly Medusa since they are known to live in sharn . however Yaun -ti pureblood might be preferable since it is already a playable race and medusa is only in homebrew

Discipline of the Sibilant Death-- Stealth Melee Assassinate Attack: On Sneak Attack: +5 Sneak Attack dice. Kills a target instantly, Fortitude save (10 + Character Level + Dexterity bonus + bonuses to Assassinate) negates. (Cooldown: 10 seconds.)
Snake Poison-- +1/2 Imbue die. 2 AP 2 Ranks.

lets look at what they get as a race in 3. 5 PnP
Yuan-ti pureblood characters possess the following racial traits:
+2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma.
Darkvision out to 60 feet.
Racial Hit Dice: A yuan-ti pureblood begins with four levels of monstrous humanoid , which provides 4d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +4, and base saving throws bonuses of Fort +1, Ref +4, Will +4.
Racial Skills: A yuan-ti pureblood's monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 7 × (2 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Concentration, Disguise, Hide, Knowledge (any), Listen and Spot.
A pureblood gains a +5 racial bonus on Disguise checks when impersonating a human.
Racial Feats: A yuan-ti pureblood's monstrous humanoid levels give it two feats. Yuan-ti purebloods receive Alertness and Blind-Fight as bonus feats.
+1 natural armor bonus.
Spell-like abilities: 1/day – "animal trance", "cause fear", "charm person", "darkness", "entangle"; caster level 4th. The save DCs are Charisma based (10 + Cha modifier + spell level).
Alternate Form (Sp): All yuan-ti can assume the form of a Tiny to Large viper (see the Snake entry, page 280) as a psionic ability. The yuan-ti loses its natural weapons (if any) and gains the natural weapon of the viper form it assumes. If the yuan-ti has a poisonous bite of its own, it uses its own or the viper's poison, whichever is more potent.
Detect Poison (Sp): All yuan-ti have the psionic ability to detect poison at will as the spell (caster level 6th).
Spell resistance 14 + class levels.
the snake form thing might be difficult to animate . in 5e they get advantage to saving throws against magic . and suggestion spell at lvl 3

I would maybe add ways for them to get poison spell power . and add a few poison spells to the game.
also core is a multiselector of DEX , WIS or INT . something that is like Edvards tentacles except its snakes

BUT I actually think that would be cool. They are kinda fish people so Cthulhu connection there would be interesting depending on how they looked.
I updated the tree to reflect your suggestions sans the evards tentaticles SLA. How bad do you want that?

they could get a poison guard kind of like infested plate from chronoscope raid not super useful but something i always thought was kind of cool . it symbolizes the pet snake that you have lashing out at the attacker .
Now that blight caster has been announced there will be more support for poison. like Tieflings get extra fire spell power . they get some extra poison . negative . spellpower .
