Default Adjusting brightness/contract/gamma sliders makes no difference

Ever since I upgraded my PC's hardware and reinstalled my OS, the sliders have changed nothing in terms of how bright the game is. Even directly editing the user preferences file in My Documents doesn't result in any change in the brightness of the game. Very unusual considering I'm using very similar, just more powerful CPU and GPU, and still using the same version of Windows. I've tried to look for ways to get it working, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Are you playing in windowed mode? If so, it won't let you change those settings. I don't know why.

In Windowed mode, it's Microsoft Windows controlling all your contrast, brightness, and gamma stuff, not DDO.

If you get out of Windowed mode and into "Full Screen" (not Full Screen (Windowed)) mode, DDO, once again, becomes the app to control those settings and you'll be able to move those sliders to your heart's content.

    OP,

If you insist on adjusting the Gamma, Contrast, and Brightness while in Windowed mode, you'll have to find some controls in the software for your video card or within Windows itself to adjust in order to do that.

I haven't tried that, so I couldn't tell you exactly what to do.

This^, in so many words, is how you say time and feedback on Lamannia are wasted.

I always run the game in regular Fullscreen mode. Despite confirming that it says Fullscreen when checking the graphic settings in-game, I'm not convinced it's truly acting as Fullscreen. I checked that user preferences file in My Documents and the text doesn't seem to suggest Fullscreen, but I'm not sure exactly what name/line it would be under.

Can someone post exactly what line in the user preferences file makes the game run in Fullscreen?

Go into your userpreferences.ini file and look for a section called [Display].

You should see a line that says "ScreenMode=FullScreen"

Your in-game settings should look something like this:

Obviously, your resolution settings could be different and your sliders might be in different places, but you should be able to move them.

Yes, that's what the file says, and that's what it looks like in-game. The issue remains that sliding the sliders changes nothing about how the game looks.

I don't know what to tell you, then.

I've not had much luck until recently. Of course, some of the quest/areas are really dark (I'm talking to you Underdark and Barovia). I installed ReShade (googleable) and it works great, plus I can turn it on/off. Haven't messed much with anything beyond Gamma at this time. I use two monitors so I run in fullscreen(windowed). When it's dark I hotkey gamma increase and I'm good to go.

    Cheers
