DDOCast Producer's Letter Dec 2022

To the DDOCast fans and listeners and the greater DDO community,

A little over 9 years and nearly 400 shows ago I took over as the host and producer of DDOCast. I was suddenly the shepherd of a DDO podcast almost as long lived as the game itself and with 300 episodes of history behind it. Today that journey is ending.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the DDO community in this way. I’ve met some great friends and had some awesome (and at times quite heated) conversations about this game we all play and share a love for. It is humbling to even consider the number of hours people have spent listening to my thoughts and ideas about DDO and drone on reading release notes. We have had a lot of fun together over the past decade.

Now that time is ending for me. Life is so different now and it becomes increasingly apparent that it is time for me to let go of DDOCast. It is not an easy thing to release. Over a decade ago I began making segments for the podcast and it has been a part of my life ever since. It is even harder so soon after the people of DDO and DDOCast helped me (and many of us) weather a pandemic.

What does this mean for DDOCast? I don’t know. I have been unable to identify the next host and producer of the show so, for now, the podcast will be going dark. Cyberears is also shutting down at the end of 2022 so the podcast will not have hosting for the time being. The show will still be available at ddocast.com in both video and audio form and the videos will continue to be available at twitch.tv/ddocast and on youtube. You will probably still see me streaming and posting videos of myself and my friends playing DDO and D&D but for now there will not be new episodes of the podcast. If you think you might be, or know, the next DDOCast host and producer, reach out to me! I would love to find someone to pass this on to.

To all those who contributed and helped me make this podcast what it was, thank you. There have been many and your help has been greatly appreciated. To the Devs, it was amongst the highest of honors to have you on the show. Few players get to have the kind of access to you that I have enjoyed the last several years. Your love and knowledge of the game and its players was always fun to interact with - and you are all pretty swell people to hang out with too. And to the listeners: this show was always for you but you are the reason why it was fun to produce.

You are amazing Patrick! Thanks for carrying on beyond what I'd ever imagined anyone would or could. I think DDOcast is in rare company for how long it has lasted and how regularly it has served the fans of DDO.

On to new things, and further adventures!

It has been an amazing run! Who'd have thought back in late 2006 that the show would have continued for as long as it did, thanks to the dedication and interest of others. Thank you so much for your dedication, and for being the person who kept the show going longer than anyone!

Dear Patrick,
I am a bit late to the party but I would like to join the previous posters and thank you for your passion, perseverance and your positive attitude for the game and the community. You filled a void on this platform quite succesfully the last years. And I know it takes a lot of time and energy to produce something like this for any length of time.

Thanks Patrick! It was an awesome time! It's so weird since I feel like knowing you for 9 years even though we've never met.

DDOcast saved so much time for me because I could consume DDO news while driving. Guess I'll have to start reading release notes now

After some discussion with Patrick, I will be attempting to pick up the reigns of the show.

Starting this Saturday 21-Jan-23 at 3PM EST my first show will be on the DDOCast twitch channel https://www.twitch.tv/ddocast

Recorded shows will be hosted TBD as that is still being explored. The Videos will be uploaded to the DDOCast youtube channel

If this works out we will revisit the discussion of moving the show to the DDOCast twitch channel.

EDIT: Ever been so excited about some news you made a mistake...So yeah changed it to be on the DDO Cast channel.
