    Default Season 7 Hazard

I'd like to throw out an idea for a hazard of S7, or future hc seasons. This is more of a funny "let's see what happens" type of deal, but I would like to see people struggling to play through ddo with friendly fire turned on. Sorcerers that usually clear a room with a couple of spells now also clear their party. Rangers with IPS shooting from the back now precisely shoot through their friends to hit their target. And bloody-minded barbarians decapitating their group members so they can heal via blood strength.

I think this would be highly entertaining.

So, in other words, a solo season.

While that would make for a MUCH more impressive game (that would actually require ROLE PLAYING), it will NEVER happen sadly. The market for such a challenging game doesn't exist even though the forumites are constantly complaining that they want more of a challenge (hello Reaper Mode, which is now considered too easy as first lifers are soloing R10).

A better idea is to just find people you like and enjoy the experience of spending some cyber-time with them. I've actually had some friends who used the /death command when someone set off a fireball right next to them.

I fondly remember many games where you could kill yourself and your party this way. But it has been a *long* time since I have seen this in any multiplayer game. Too much room for abuse and griefing.

A ruleset where you could hurt or kill yourself but not other party members would be less realistic but would eliminate the griefing aspect. I actually would like this as a challenge a LOT more than I liked the accursed dogs since it would not preclude going afk outside of a safe town.

That's the key right there. It would happen, we all know it would happen, then there would be a few close trusted friends grouping and the rest solo.

I think the griefing would quickly disappear if this change happened. I play on many full PVP NWN PW's and those who abuse things like this are quickly well known and avoided at all costs. The problem is that people don't want the challenge. They just want to min/max and say 'see how much better my characters are than yours'.

DDO has zero in game tools for guild masters or party leaders to deal with trolls and/or griefers - allowing players to actually target and kill other players would be a very slippery slope and likely need to be a server all by itself in an event by itself.

Hardcore league may have many static groups but the bread and butter of why it is popular is how easy it is to pug and find groups and player killing would be counter-productive for the HCL leaderboards, which are designed to promote friendly competition, inter-server relations, and party cooperation.

I would also venture a prediction that if there were a widespread move to pvp in DDO, beyond what it is now as a challenge between 2 players in special locations, it would bring with it such a pandora's box of coding problems that it would likely be a death blow for this game. My data for this is the direct failure with LOTRO's FREEP/Monster PVP and the exploits of that that lead to trolling and griefing and cheating.

I personally find PVP in games that are balanced for PVP, fun, when they build around that balance and optimization for PVP. DDO has never been balance for player killing, nor should it be.

    NOTE:
People often incorrectly assume that because I petition for evil alignments to be added to DDO that I am somehow eager for pvp and player killing. This is 100% false. I am not asking for pvp, or player killing, or stealing, or anything beyond the flavor of the alignments alone. The original alignment paradigm created by Gygax for D&D was a paradigm of nine. In DDO we have six of the nine and we have classes and races which use the unlabeled three, for they do exist in the game, we just have them mislabeled: a Tiefling is an infernal being, a fiend warlock has made a pact with a demonic force, an apostate is a priest in faith to an evil god - these are already in the game. Adding the remaining three alignments would complete the flavor during character building so one could choose the correct alignment to reflect what the character actually is. One cannot be a fiend or an apostate and not be evil. Tieflings are not born to Archons, they are infernal beings - and what does this then mean for our gameplay? Has the addition of these exceedingly evil things to DDO caused mass hysteria or people's hair to burst into flames? Have we had suddenly a panic? Are people losing their souls? No. Adding the remaining three would have about as much impact on the game as Mary being neutral, which presently she is. Does her being neutral affect anyone else's game? Would anyone anywhere ever care that she is neutral? No. It means literally nothing, beyond character creation. It is 100% flavor. Adding the remaining three to complete the nine of Gygax's original paradigm would correct what presently is incorrectly labeled, or said better, it would mend the system that is broken.

Mary - agreed in all respects. When DDO launched I was not happy that some of the alignments were not allowed. Nothing to do with pvp which I am very happy not to see in DDO.

I think it'd be funny. With s7 hastily approaching, I would like to see them do something like that...purely because it would be super funny to watch.

It'd be fantastic chaos and fun, for about a day. The - idea - though is fun to think about.

Eh, just not a good idea. It would kill all incentives to group, as doing so would be far too risky. So everyone would solo.

Griefing aside, even in the case of friends grouping together, it'd still be far too risky to group considering how player HP is not at all balanced for player DPS output so you'd easily be able to one shot a party member at any time. One accidental button press could easily KO people, if not the whole group. I can already envision a FVS casting sun bolt and it going through a kobold just to one shot the tiefling sorcerer that was hanging out behind the kobold. Same issues as why PvP doesn't really work in DDO...DDO is balanced for PvE and not player on player combat in any capacity.

You'd basically have to do an entire rebalancing of all player abilities, monster HP and/or player HP, player defences, monster defenses and probably plenty of other things specifically for hardcore in order to make this work, which obviously isn't going to happen. And even if you did, it still doesn't solve griefing.

    .
    Thats a pretty easy fix.

    Remove Permadeath
    Add Friendly Fire
Add 100% penalty to self healing so grouping is required even if it is just a hireling

Still hardcore just a different flavor

The real proof that we don't need any more PvP in DDO is that people don't even bother using, or don't even know of the existence of, the multiple complex PvP modes that already exist, for up to raid-sized parties.

Yes, it has. Griefers use "role-playing" of Evil as an excuse to be (banned words omitted). We should remove all the Evil classes/enhancements/races/spells from the game. So far as I can tell, the entire drive to add more Evil to the game stems from being evil in real life. There's plenty to do in the game by being co-operating heroes instead of (more banned words omitted). Take away their stupid excuses and the (omitted) will move on to some other game where they can amuse themselves at other's expense.

In Hardcore? With all the griefing that already goes on? Are you crazy?
I tried to create a signature with just my toon names on my main server and the list was too big to fit in the signature box. 45 toons on Orien. 250 total (as of 1/8/21).
My name is Maidenstalker and I am an altoholic.
