Default Smash and Burn "Smash the Special Cargo" required for end

I can't find these **** "Special Cargo" and I can't light them up with the hotkey that usually finds breakables. I killed everything in the quest and I even got the end chest and I'm about to recall without a completion because I have two more "Special Cargo" things to smash. I have 40 jump and a runearm that throws fireballs, so it should be easy, but I CAN'T FIND THE **** THINGS.

Have you checked the Wiki map?

When maps don't help, and I really want to find something, I hit YouTube and FF thru play-through vids.

I've exited and re-run the quest 3 times now and the Special Cargo seemed to be in different places each time.

That was amazingly frustrating and un-fun. I never did find the last Special Cargo in the first run even though I did every single optional and killed every monster and got the end chest.

Part of the issue with them is that some are in random locations each time. Thankfully, they always appear the same - the brown, sort-of hexagonal container. I shudder to think how aggravating it would be to look for them if they were always random, random appearance and could not be backspace located.

In the final room with the end chest: One sometimes appears on a platform beneath the end chest. One can appear on the little balconies where the buttons to light/unlight occur. One is sometimes in those dark nooks on the opposite walls. That's all that I can think of at the moment.

It's the same kind of contain (hexagon and tall) that you had to retrieve in 'Information is the Key' that you got from inside The Leaky Dinghy Tavern. As it's not a breakable you can't use the hotkey like you've been doing.

I did it just yesterday and at the end it took me a bit to remember how the quest ran (haven't ran it for a number of years), but then I just started looking for the one container that was out of place and there it was across from the end chest up on the balcony by the ladder up to the hidden door switch in the last room.

Thanks to your hints, I found the last special cargo. I was so mad, and went everywhere. =P Thank you.

With the locations being randomized on each run, the best way to locate the containers is by changing your vantage point. And by that, I mean a lot of jumping to reach the upper platforms & then looking down, far across, and in some cases getting into spots that provide a unique line of sight in order to see that final container. It's a chore at times, but probably the least evil of the three primary chores in this quest.
"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

There is one at the mini-boss behind the locked door, then the rest can be found around the periphery of the final room. Back when sharn was new and I needed lots (and LOTS) of mats for conversions I learned how to speed-farm cogs. Gah. I started to type out directions and it gets convoluted to read. I should make a map with route crayons.

The gist is start at the back right, go up to end chest, back a little then over the top gear to platform above the door. Clear left, then parkour clockwise back to end chest. The storage won't all be directly in front of you, but that route will cover all wraiths and you'll be able to tab and/or see all storage spots to break them with ranged or spells.

BTW, only Roll Call is longer than Smash. All the other cogs quests are at most half as long, judging by my speedrun "PR" times. Heh, and knowing the quests doesn't always lead to faster completes. Sometimes it just means you can tell when it's too buggy to bother finishing and better to restart it. Smash is absolutely the buggiest of the cogs quests.

The worst Smash bug is that the wraiths will sometimes float up to the ceiling and get stuck -- this can lead to it being faster for a melee char to punt and rerun than try to range-kill it with a pull toy.

Ultra-rarely storage won't draw in at all, too. The only way to find them in that case is to blast or melee their spawns. When I'm missing one, usually it's that I ran over one and just didn't see it. Only discovered this one when I started melee'ing spawns as I was running to make sure and saw a completely invisible storage appear as I broke it.
