Can a dev please explain what has happened?
It is now taking two minutes from entering password to getting to character screen...
This used to take no more than 30 seconds

    Say what now?

I just tested this: From hitting password [PLAY] to login screen in Sarlona: 20.72 seconds.
to login screen in Orien: 8.95 seconds.
to login screen in Wayfinder: 7.8 seconds.
to login screen in Argronessen: 6.05 seconds.

I use the third-party VoK launcher, takes about 5 seconds. Logging OUT of a character, however(to switchchars) takes about 6 years.
If I can read the dev tracker, you can too.

    This is what I said. 120 seconds (minimum). I don't think it's a PC issue/RAM/whatever.

    Hi Eantarus

I downloaded the .zip file for this launcher but don't see an .exe to run it.
How do I make this work?

    Thanks in advance

I'll admit it is far from the most user-friendly setup process you will experience. And the website is not terribly easy to navigate. Unfortunately I set it up months ago and don't remember what was involved. The VoK team runs a discord server and is very helpful and responsive on there.

No, it doesn't look like a PC issue.

Maybe its the modem or the network router? Try rebooting the network router and the cable modem? If using FIOS, reboot the FIOS router?

If you're a network engineer, you can try doing a traceroute and pings and see what kind of timings you are getting to.

Tyrande is correct on the approach to finding the problem. Specs wise it's "unlikely" to be your computer, unless you grabbed 8gb or 16gb of RAM and then also have a boatload of preinstalled unnecessary stuff on your machine as well (it can happen) that you forgot to remove.

This leads to the connection you have. Either from the network between your ISP and DDO, or from your internal network you connect to.

    Usual asks here would be:

    1. Are you using WIFI? If so, can you try using a wired ethernet connection temporarily to eliminate the WIFI as the problem? (This is true in particular if you are in a multi dwelling unit, or have solid walls between the modem/router and your computer)

    2. If you are using wired, have you confirmed that the cable is fine? Most often from other uses; try downloading the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft.

    3. Are you living with many other people who share the same connection point? If so, are you making sure that no one else is hogging the entire bandwidth? This could come in the form of uncontrolled mass downloading and uploads from other users, or from router controlled preferences.

    4. Have you tried logging into other DDO server worlds? And do you have the same issue? (Normally would be what Tyrande suggested so jumping ahead here)

    5. Back to point raised initially, if you have a newly obtained system, was it a clean system? Clean as in, no bloatware, no adware, spyware, "branded" improvements (Asus armory crate for example), etc. I include stuff like Anti-Virus here, as often they can cause all sorts of problems and never really stop the issue they're supposed to stop in the first place. Saw a McAfree - purchased - Anti-Virus protected device, just welcome a trojan back in 2004 that did sod all to prevent it from hijacking and encrypting the device. And of course, we've seen stuff like Anti-Virus block gaming connections, causing connections that should be in half the time or less, take much longer to complete.

Yes to Wifi and using in a standalone home. Haven't had this problem until very recently. Have Google Home extensions as well (but my home office sits next to the router practically).

Three girls on tiktok 24/7 but it happens when they're in school and I'm only one here...

I have not. Will test this.

System is one year old. Worked fine until recent update. Night and day between how quickly I used to be able to get to character screen and now...

Tiktok is a Chinese company and can contain malware. Its toxic software. I know its hot in America. I would advise against using the software.

    Use YouTube instead.

    You're welcome.

There sounds like something is phishy on your system. This is very suspecting. You are certain that nobody has hacked into your system and created a backdoor? (which in turn can cause the slowness you observed)

Can you try downloading Malwarebytes Antimalware from their website and do a thorough scan (from Malwarebytes boot disk created on another system, not from current system)

They only use TikTok on their phones. They won't listen when I tell them to get rid of it.
As for me, no social media presence other than LinkedIn.
I run Trend Micro Internet Security on my PC 24/7
    Scans are clean.

its a hour glass and your 1 grain of sand.

the server buffer makes you wait in line.

I try and populate the who tab in social so the game isn't trying to do that in the background while I'm playing , one the 1st things I do when I log on.
if it eliminates a spike here and there good if not well i feel like I'm trying to do something anyway.

I have no problem waiting. Wonder if there is a spike in new players? I haven't waited this long since I started DDO.
Now it's over 2 minutes every time.

    Oh well.

Is this Orien? If yes, maybe.

Also, some of the people from Orien that were playing hardcore cannot move back to Orien. They maybe moving to your server?

When MoTU was first released, there was a spike. When Ravenloft ware first released, there was a spike. When pandemic hits in April of 2020 along with free to play announcement there was a huge spike per DDO audit data in permanent population charts. Last October 2021, there was a spike when another DDO free quests code was given out.

Now, spike? I am not sure. There seems to be a trend up from 1200 to 1600 per the green line (as hard core closes); but it maybe just the holidays...

    Argo here but who knows.
The game hangs by a thread every year. These issues (if on their side) will never be addressed.
Survival in business means cutting down to the bare minimum and squeezing out the maximum (return).

I have no illusions that one day I'll wake up and DDO will be shut down/insolvent.
