Default Nebula Fragments and Shards drop outside of saltmarsh

    Hello true believers,

I seem to recall at the advent of Saltmarsh hearing something about how the shards needed for legendary upgrades and perfected upgrades would EVENTUALLY be dropping in all legendary content but while the Saltmarsh was new it would be exclusive to that area to encourage people to play the content.

now that isle of Dread is the new content and we have all new heavy things to grind for running the content endlessly for gear that is just barely better than what was available at level 29 for half the grind, it did leave me to wonder ... why is it that the shards and fragments are still exclusive to saltmarsh?

the gear they upgrade (Dragon/VON , sentinels chain, desert, etc ) are not in saltmarsh ... while they are also not legendary chains .. i understand the want for progression of gear to match the tier of play (shards should drop in ALL legendary content since they upgrade gear to legendary status lvl 30).

can we get word on when this will be happening ?

have you ever though of re-using ingredients from one patch to another ... the grind is already heavy enough for TRing which is all but mandatory at this stage as we are developing content that at launch requires several TRs and/or 30+ reaper points to attempt on none reaper difficulties (who actually plays raids on anything above hard with very few exceptions TS/VON/Stradh/baba and even then the majority of you have more than 21 reaper points at least and three past lives at very least)

i think its fair now to start allowing people to upgrade their items .... please add these shards to all legendary content.

You can trade in ingredients from other Epic/Legendary Crafting packs to form Star Fragments and Nebula Fragments. Check the Altar of Legendary Rituals

That is all well and good .. except you need those ingredients as well to upgrade items.

why cant we just add the ingredients to the loot table for all legendary content?

    100 shards per 1 fragment x 100 needed for nebula = 1000 shards.

1250 gets you a raid item + 50 for epic + 100 for legendary + 5 shards (another 500) + 1000 for perfected after you do the quest of course.

total of 2,900 ingredients to make one perfected item .. of which you can only wear one per character because its an artifact.

This is before any consideration for lvl 35 or 40 enhancements which i am sure are in the plan.

what does letting them drop 1 at a time in all legendary content do that breaks the game? You still need to do 100 quests for 1 nebula fragment.

What's the big deal? Just run Saltmarsh. If you really need a perfected item just farm Saltmarsh for star fragments, get your guildies to help, won't take long to get 100 star fragments.

Obviously this is a way to sell Saltmarsh to people, SSG is still a business and needs to make money.

No one is going farm out a nebula fragment that way to make a perfect item. Why? Because you can't use a nebula fragment if one doesn't own Saltmarsh and at that point it's easier to just farm 100 fragments directly out there (with chances to get a nebula drop directly at the same time).

    doh!

    right even worse lol

i just dont see the reason ... they said they would and they havent ... saltmarsh is boring and long and not fun at all. in comparison to feywild and dread saltmarsh is the worst of the packs released this year. But its the one that is required to upgrade items.

just bad for players who actually play the game for progression and not just through endless TRing but gear progression.

i own saltmarsh ... i just hate the content .. why should i have to play content i hate to upgrade items form content i enjoy?

I think it was done this way to punish new players. Any long-time player will easily have enough pack ingredients from crunching shard/seal/scroll to make a nebula fragment(many, if they participated in the various waves of ingredient duping some years back). Only people who started after the old S/S/S system went defunct are going to have a huge catch-up.

That said, the grind is actually not so bad. If you hit all the chests in Von3 you can get 250 pack ingredients per run, or in about ~15 minutes. That's actually faster than you can pull 2.5 star fragments in Salt March. If you're starting from scratch, the 10,000 required to make a nebula fragment is certainly steep... but what's the point? The only real advantage to the "completed" minor artifacts is that they get 4 filigree slots, which you can now get from the far superior craftable minor artifacts in IoD.
If I can read the dev tracker, you can too.

This is why I ignore chase items like this because they get invalidated by future updates

Yes, and we thank you(?) for that but not what OP is asking for and neither is a fulfillment of a promise once made.

Btw, The perfected items would have earned their spot if they weren't minor artefacts but still were able to slot a single filigree.

The quote everyone is looking for from the Devs "**Star Fragments will be an uncommon drop from Legendary Saltmarsh to start, and will become more widely available in future updates as well." comes directly from the U50 Release Notes. Look in the section Items, then under S/S/S Loot system update.

    https://www.ddo.com/update-notes/ddo...-release-notes

But you can't hold them to any imaginary promises even when they put it in writing, they change their minds too frequently for that... their words are so many soap bubbles, sparkly, pretty, insubstantial.

This is exactly what happened, though. At release they could only drop in Saltmarsh, and then post-release in Update 55 the system was expanded to allow players to use their ingredients from other packs to buy Star and Nebula Fragments, making them available outside of Saltmarsh and therefore more widely available.

What did we promise that was not delivered? I don't understand.

    Oh, come on.

The post left a DISTINCT impression that the fragments themselves would drop in other places besides Saltmarsh.

Your semantic reliances on purely technical meaning are the WORST kinds of "promises."

SSG's release note statement, in the Community's view, had the effect of being an untruth.

We'd prefer plain talk and plain truth to what is essentially deceptive language and shady business practices.

I'll elucidate. The statement from the Release Notes strongly implied Star Fragments, at the very least, would eventually be dropping from content other than JUST Saltmarsh. That is most definitely how it was read at the time the notes were released. There is NO WAY I see that we could have guessed the forthcoming solution was a purchase process using other needful ingredients.
