New usefulness could be brought to trapmaking if characters with the skill were able to craft remotely-triggered explosive devices. Unlike current traps, these would be triggered with a detonator instead, and the blast could open doors and throw switches/levers. These would allow trap makers to avoid some single-fire traps that can't be disabled or some traps with a broken control box. Rogues could also remain stealthed while interacting with a door/lever/switch from a better position. Instead of having a separate detonator item, the device could act as both the explosive and the detonator, toggling between placement and detonation. Like current traps, they could be crafted in the various elements for damage and use the related trap parts. Most characters with trapmaking will end up with an abundance of trap parts, and I think this would be a great way to put them to use.
