Default Niacs cold ray, when and why did the save change to reflex?

Niac's cold ray used to be a fort save to resist, and I never noticed till now that it had been changed to be a reflex save. Of course, reflex save doesn't make any sense to me as it is a projectile, not an aoe. It made sense to be fort save and also one of the good spells that used a different save.

Any ideas why they changed this? I'm also curious how long it took me to notice.

You might be confusing it with frost lance which is a fort save.

    It was always Reflex.

The benefits over other level 1 projectile spells (the elemental bolts) are thus:
    Higher base damage.
    VERY high travel speed.
    Faster casting animation.

The damage caps at 37.5 average at level 5.
A CL 5 caustic bolt will deal 27.5 by comparison.

The elemental bolts eventually go up to 55 average damage at CL 10, but every max CL you get will give more bang for your buck on Niac's than it would on them.

The bolts' main draws are the fact they have no save and higher base max caster level.
