Default 30 percent off SELECT character bank space

So the word SELECT means NOT the two newest upgrades 3 and 4?

That a company tries to make money on a new product rather than sell it at a discount? That a company only discounts "older" items?

Take any basic economics course, you'll avoid such "surprises" in the future.

Why would they sell something new for 30% off? A lot of people will buy it at full price and be happy with it. Some time down the road a ways, they will be on sale for people that want to wait and save a bit on it. This seems like the only logical way to sell things in general...wait for all the people that are fine paying full price to dry up, then have a sale to get some more people to buy.

Funny because many basic economics courses quite like the idea of "introductory offers", where a new product is launched at a lower price.

It's mostly used to create a combination of value proposition and fear of missing out IE: "THis product is worth 20% more than it's priced at now, wow it's such good value now, but for a LIMITED TIME ONLY, DON'T MISS OUT"

Seriously, this is super basic economics

To make it seem like you're getting a good deal so you buy it, many people would never buy certain things if they're not at a discounted price, and it makes it look like the vendor is being kind if they're discounting it as an introductory offer. it's very common.

That’s not the only possibility of economics

DDO has rarely offered things at discount on launch ( Saltmarsh 10%VIP discount) and probably won’t change that

they go the route of full price for a while first to sell to those who can’t wait and even restrict purchases to the cash shop before going for later points

Yes. Not surprisingly, the brand new thing is not on sale.

What you're describing is a deceptive business practice where they MSRP it at 30% more than they really intend to, so they can "mark it down" 30% to the price they wanted to sell it for anyway

That's different than pricing the new thing at the same price as the older thing, you dont see that very often at all

Does character bank space still go away if you reincarnate? i.e. you pay for it and don't get to keep it?

This has never (in my recollection) happened. The only character bank space you lose on reincarnation (True only, not lesser) is the Kundarak favor based bank space.

SSG should make the bank space price 800 pts, then have a big splash screen banner saying new bank space is 25% off, so everyone can get it on sale.

    No it isn't.

Basic Economics is "Supply and Demand". Here, there in an inarguable demand for more bank space, and a limited supply (2 new tabs).

Do major car companies ever lower the price on new models? No. Does Apple ever offer a "introductory offer" on a new product? Nupe! Why? Because they don't have to. Everyone knows the product, everyone wants the product - done deal.

(In fact, as mentioned above, it's not uncommon for a new, high-demand/low-supply product, such as a new model of car, to end up on the show room floor higher than the MSRP. Just be glad SSG isn't doing that, preying on those who need bank space so much they would be willing to pay more to get it early - and I'm sure there are many such players out there! That might be something to legitimately complain about - maybe. But that's not SSG's style, and standard, predictable, "super basic" marketing is nothing to complain about.)

And that's what you're babbling about - not Economics, but Marketing, which is closer to Psychology, and has nothing (directly!) to do with this. An "Introductory" offer is for an item is truly "new" to the consumer - an unfamiliar product, or a new company providing it. There is no need to "introduce" more bank space - we know what it is, it's nothing new or unknown.

But I edit my previous suggestion - from your post, what you need is to take a "super basic" economics course, so at least you're clear on the diff.

Also not surprisingly, the only reason new character bank space is so highly desired is because SSG keeps adding more and more BTC items instead of making them BTA.

You artificially and unnecessarily create the problem and then offer to sell the solution.

Character progression in DDO is based on players TRing into different classes and builds that require completely different gear setups. This strongly incentivizes players to keep rare, BTC gear in the bank even if it isn't useful to their current build since it could be used after a TR.

This is pretty shady in my opinion.

I hope I do not get in trouble for this but...

Have you ever seen the MyPillow guy? I invented my patented pillow to give you the best sleep ever! My patented pillow is manufactured by space aliens in my factory on Mars. It uses a special 37 layer design, developed by me after chain smoking 15 packs of Lucky Strikes and chugging three bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label. My pillow has a value of one million dollars, but if you use promo code BUYME, you can get one at the special introductory price of $29.99! That is a savings of over one thousand percent! This special introductory price, which I have been offering for the last 5 years, may end at any time so order today!

    Exactly!

It's new, it's different, it's just been invented - try it, because you've never seen anything like it before!

THAT is a true reason/excuse for "an introductory offer".

New releases in music and videos were always released on sale with the profit margin as low as two cents forever for a reason. You're confusing sales with clearance prices. Maybe take a basic economics course to understand the difference.
