    Default My take on Sacred Fist Pally Stick Build

    I always loved playing a CLONK with a quarterstaff, in Pajamas. So when I saw the sacred fist tree and all its juicyness, I thought there might be some synergy there. I dont like punching and hitting button combos. God bless you if you do, youre smarter than I am!

    I knew this would be very defensive. And I knew DPS would just be ok. I dont know how the SF spells will add to DPS. I'm starting from 1 and I'll update this as I go. It's just a plan for now. I have a lot of sticks for all levels.

    Discussion Points:

    Rogue is for attack speed, haste boost, evasion, and trapping XP. With 100ish reflex thisll be fun.
    Pally levels get holy sword and a bunch of the SF dmg dice, which ill convert to light and amp with melee power. Sticks will be deity weapon with Aureon and implement in DC.

    2000HP in reaper. dodge, lesser displace, ghostly, massive saves, evasion, self heal. And a woowoo stick for the luls.

    Now I could go tactics and try to knock stuff down/out, using trips and GMoF drifting lotus. Thats a lot of investment when other people do a lot of CC and this toon will probably party. So I'm going to leverage a weird angle and go radiant servant and use my Turns for something useful. In group play, a paladin using healing burst would be kinda... useful in the middle of the melees. No target heals are great when youre in eDF stance and limited to touch range.

    ToDo: refine the stats to get them even at end game. Identify trappy swaps. Get elemental resist and absorb up.

    Hey, this is a cool idea, but there are a couple of problems.

    - 50 AP in Sacred Fist is way too many even if you were pure Sacred Fist using Wraps and took the capstone and T5s.
    - The entire left side of Sacred Fist enhancements require favored weapon, which you will not have for Quarterstaffs, just Wraps.
    - Many of the Sacred Fist enhancements are traps. I didn't go through all of what you selected because that 50 number made if obvious that you took all of the stuff that you don't really need.

    So the only way to get a Quarterstaff as a favored enemy for this setup is to take Cleric or Favored Soul before your Sacred Fist levels. And then, for BAB reasons, you are locked into a couple of things, you need to take full BAB class levels through level 12 in order to get the best usage of feats (sacred fist 2-12). At that point, you could add a level of rogue, but it may make more sense to add a level of Monk. So an 18/1/1 build might work for this.

    Anything in the Sacred Fist tree that uses Ki is a total waste on a mostly Sacred Fist build. The reason is that you will only have enough Ki for the Spells in your spell book, so using the stuff in the tree is not only a DPS loss, but a waste of action points.

    Ok, I see you are picking up Quarterstaff as a Favored weapon at level 23. What about levels 1-22? That also locks one of your destinies into Divine Crusader and for a fun mixed up build like this, you want to be able to mix and match destiny trees.

    And you should know that Sacred Fist gets no bonuses to Ki Generation. So in order to make use of the Ki spells in Epic, that locks you into Grandmaster of Flowers to pickup +1 passive Ki generation, and +ki generated on melee attacks.

    Another idea is to go Tabaxi Trailblazer as an Iconic if you have it, and use the racial tree as your staff tree. You get everything that you need from Sacred Fist for 23 AP. And then to further the Clonk theme, you could grab Radiant Servant Tier 5s. You still need full BAB sacred fist for levels 11-12. You could add more Monk after that, Monk has a staff tree too, but on Iconic I would take 12 levels of sacred fist on creation so you can get the level 12 core. 17/3 gets 3rd level cores from Monk and Fists of light. 16/4 gets another Monk feat and you still keep most of your Sacred Fist spell slots.

    Those are great points! Thanks! I'll look at allocating AP elsewhere but tbh there wasn't a lot that excited me.

    Heroic leveling has been joke level easy so far so I'm not sweating the 1-22 grind. I could put those AP into trapping till then.

    Yeah, I don't think you will see any problems in heroics. 50 MRR cap in Epics is problematic. And the Sharn Melee set (Part of the Family) does not give any MRR cap boost, like the caster set (Escoteric Initiate) does. Even 60 MRR is very low for Epics, you will find yourself taking more damage than squishy characters like rangers who by default would have 100 MRR cap in light armor, and can keep their distance. It is fine in 20+ if you can heal through it and get some crowd control. At cap, if you wanted to run high reaper, I don't think there is any way around it, you would need to utilize the Nystal's Mystical Defense Sentient filigree set to increase MRR cap further. Champ Dots and non-evadable Famine reaper spells will hurt, even if you have a ton of hit points.

    Do you think 100ish saves with evasion can overcome that? I looked at the esoteric set, but it was particularly caster-y. I do like the charisma of course. I'll gear tetris it up in my spreadsheet and post that gear variant here shortly!

    I just hit 32 on my Sacred Fist. I would not recommend doing what I did with Escoteric Initiate (caster set with MRR cap bonus) and the Sands sets for Martial boosts, unless you also wanted to grab something like Greater Color Spray and Greatest Shout SLAs to add some crowd control.

    I don't actually have the Docent for Escoteric anyway, and I especially do not want to try to farm for it right now (drops from reach for the sky where at total of 6 different items also drop). I also do not want to try to tetris in the legendary Sands/Fens stuff, and Legendary GoMF is another even more painful thing. So that puts me back into the much easier to gear Legendary Part of the Family. I added 4x Winter set from Feywild and some other stuff.

    For the MRR cap thing, I decided to use Legendary Moonslice, it has Sovereign Vorpal, and I get vorpal on 19-20 with Perfect Single Weapon Fighting. I added 5x Nystul's Mystical Defenses filigree set to it, which gives me a 90 MRR cap.

    For stuff you can evade, it is not a problem. What I was concerned with was Reaper spells that cannot be evaded, and Champion DoTs. 90 MRR is still low for melee, a ranger using a bow can keep his distance and has 100 base MRR cap in light armor, ranger is squishy, Sacred Fist, in terms of MRR, is more squishy.

    Quick tests seemed to indicate that it might be workable for say R4 solo, R6 in group perhaps, its going to get destroyed in R8-10 I am sure, and mostly because of the MRR cap.

    So the concern is primarily around whether you wanted to pickup a couple more reaper points at cap, for just getting the heroic or iconic past life, it is not too much of a problem, and there is Nystul's in epics where it starts to become an issue, that takes the place of a DPS set though, so you are not going to be a top performer with this setup no matter what. It is fun though, I like the concept of it, and playstyle.

    Edit: Another consideration, while Sacred Fist is not going to be that great at cap due to low MRR, bad Tier 5s, not enough healing amp in the tree, no CHA trance, not enough useful features in getting to T5, no crowd control, etc., it is going to be quite good for heroic racial lives if you like melees (melee + AoE + Evasion + Saves + Healing), and running 1-20 you never even see the problems with 50 MRR cap.

    Ok wow such great feedback. Taking what you suggested, I think I've really improved things over

    Changes:
    -Changed gear to get MRR cap increase from Might and Magic 2 ring set, kept PoF and 4 pc winter
    -Lost lesser displace off rings and couldnt replace so went illusionist tree to get blur
    -Added to Sacred Defender (for MRR to reach cap at 80)
    -Took from SF enh tree to fund these investments in blur and MRR, dont think i crippled it
    -Had to swap a toughness for magical training to get into illusionist, no big deal

    Next steps: Still could use some work on Ki generation as i dont play monks much. And can i amp the damage done by wives of fire/light? Is it based on Melee Power or spell power?

    A couple of things on Enhancements.

    For a Pure Sacred Fist, using Wraps, so you get the Favored Weapon Bonuses, "All In" for the tree, is 33 Points in the tree, that would be the Tier 5 for Favored Weapon Damage and nothing else in T5, and the level 18 core. I can see no reason spending points past that under any circumstances. You lose the capstone, but the T5s are so bad, you can barely justify taking the only good effect, and then only if you are using a favored weapon.

    For Radiant Servant, the breakpoints are, 6 AP for Cure Mod SLA (can be Maximized, empowered, intensified, quickened), or for heavier investment, you want to spend 12 points to get Unyielding Sovereignty (basically a one charge super lay on hands that is on a 5 min cooldown).

    For Sacred Defense, the breakpoints are, 4 AP if you just want the extra Lay on Hands charges, or much better, for 13 AP, you get the defensive stance and 20% boost to hit points while in that stance.

    For Feydark Illusionist, if you are going after blur and perma-shield, you can pickup Greater Color Spray for 11 point investment. It is a weird tree though as far as spending points, I tried to make it 11, but ended up with 12 points spent there.

    33 Sacred Fist
    13 Sacred Defense
    12 Radiant Servant
    12 Feydark Illusionist

    That gets you to 70 AP spent. For 10 extra points, hmm, probably best utilized in your racial tree if you have any racial APs. Could drop Radiant to 6 AP, that would leave you with 16 points to spend somewhere else.

    And if you are not using Wraps, as favored weapons, the max investment in Sacred Fist should be 23 AP, the level 12 Core, and the T4 upgrade for your Ki spells to make them deal Light Damage.

    At that point, you obviously need another staff tree, or knife tree, or whatever. You could go into Vistani and use Daggers until 23, and then take Quarterstaffs as a favored enemy from Divine Crusader.

    The only other option, to get Quarterstaffs as a favored weapon is to start with a level of Cleric or Favored Soul, then add Sacred Fist levels, so you could take the Quarterstaff deity. No staff tree in this scenario is fine, because you can make use of the 33 AP in Sacred Fist. You cannot take any non-full-BAB levels until you get all of your combat feats that are all gated on BAB. But after that, you could add either monk or rogue. I would go monk myself, simply because if you are taking the levels that late, you are not likely to catchup your trap skills anyway, and you get monk stances. Jidz-Tet'ka gets you MRR cap boost in Ocean stance (which is a good stance for this, because that stance also boosts passive ki generation if you can ever reach the greater stance feats). Or fire stance for more Ki per melee attack. Prob fire stance in heroics, and then Ocean in Epics.

    Also, fyi, I posted a Tabaxi Trailblazer build idea in this forum, it picks up Grandmaster of Forms at level 18.

    17 Sacred Fist / 2 Fighter / 1 Monk

    Fighter actually gets you more monk than monk does The reason for that is that you cannot take the form upgrade feats as monk bonus feats, but you can take them as regular feats, using the fighter bonus feats to pickup combat feats at key levels.

    This uses Daggers and Vistani, but you could go staffs at 23, with Divine Crusader, if you are willing to respec all of your feats from TWF to THF, and provided you qualify for both, which would be an interesting exercise, but clearly makes this more Multiple Attribute Dependent than it already is.

    Or, you could just level to cap with daggers, and then take Weapon Specialization Two Handed Fighting as your level 31 feat, and use them at cap, just need to swap your improved critical feat for this. On the one hand that kicks in just as Sacred Fist really starts to feel squishy, on the other hand, you have +10 MRR cap from monk stance bonus, and +15 MRR cap if you take Grandmaster of Flowers to Tier 5, which is more doable with a monk splashed build.

    I'm currently playtesting it at level 8 in feywild. Duo'ing with a buddy on mostly R1. Its very defensive and kills pretty good too. Elemental Bloom is strong at level in heroics. It paralyzes everything.

    But my heal bursts stink, if that doesnt improve, i may scrap RS altogether and focus on LoH and embrace my inner pallyness. bursts are a quality of life enhancement for me since i like to be in eDF and not have to target heal. But I can adapt if needed.

    I am testing an 18/1/1 Split, Sacred Fist / Monk / Favored Soul on an Iconic Trailblazer. It has some cool stuff like two sources of passive Ki generation on creation at level 15. It also has flexibility to use Wraps or Daggers, and even Shadowblades once it picks up Holy Sword. Sacred Fist needs +1 spell slot over regular Paladin for the level 3 and 4 slots due to the Ki spells, Vistani level 12 core frees up Holy Sword. Let me put together a feat list, it's annoying because it cannot take one of the combat feats until 21, but full monk stances.

    For Feydark Illusionist, if you are going after blur and perma-shield, you can pickup Greater Color Spray for 11 point investment. It is a weird tree though as far as spending points, I tried to make it 11, but ended up with 12 points spent there.

    33 Sacred Fist
    13 Sacred Defense
    12 Radiant Servant
    12 Feydark Illusionist

    That gets you to 70 AP spent. For 10 extra points, hmm, probably best utilized in your racial tree if you have any racial APs. Could drop Radiant to 6 AP, that would leave you with 16 points to spend somewhere else.

    Lot of really good options there. I love GCS on my toons and like you say, I'm almost at 11 anyway, why not? Usually I go winter helm for DCs and I need 4 pieces anyway... so I'll jigger that around.

    Sacred Defense stance HP is competence bonus now not Sacred. So it doesn't stack with eDF. But if I want GCS to hit many mops Mayne I'll get out of eDF. I like HP. But CC is Defense. When I get to epics I think I'll be trying all sorts of things.

    Does anyone know if the magical training autogranted by the first core of exalted angel counts as a pre-req for illusion tree? It says "any source" so i imagine it should. but the planner doesnt allow it. I may need to spoof it

    I can confirm that this works. I swapped out magical training that I took at level 3 for Precision and added in Feydark stuff in Epics, getting Magical Training from both Primal and Fatesinger.

    Important to note, you cannot take Precision until level 3, so don't take Magical Training at level 1 in heroic, if you go that route.

    Thinking about CC and defense, here's where I'm at. Didnt want to go caster CC, so i can stay eDF. I decided to go drifting lotus. It just feels right with a staff.

    Jump in, boom, stun. cleave, cleave, waves of fire. 4 button combo FTW!

    Changes: went all the way up in GMoF, drastically reduced Divine crusader. Added LD. (no EA for magic training =C ) Slotted stun. Took tactician as feat

    Still way too much Sacred Fist. I mentioned earlier, "All in, maximum investment" in Sacred Fist, with a Favored weapon, is 33 AP, and that is only if you do not have another staff tree to use, if you have access to ANY staff tree at all (including Tabaxi Trailblazer's tree), drop those AP in Sacred Fist to 23 AP.

    Have a look at my build idea for staff in this forum for some ideas, and also I am looking for feedback if you are going staff, if you have ideas for anything I could improve upon. For 36 point build for my main, stat distribution would be different, so not worried about that, but just feats/enhancements, concepts, etc.
