Default Ability Score used for To Hit and Damage?

Does the character sheet show what ability score a character uses for To Hit and Damage rolls? I cannot find it anywhere.

I think my Great Crossbow Rogue 20 is borked. No matter what destiny she uses, she cannot kill stuff fast enough and gets swarmed. Throwing sticky grenades does not help. My Inquisitive Rogue 18 / Barbarian 2 also seems borked. She does better but definitely not great.

It will show up on your equipped weapon mouse over. Normally Xbow has no ability to damage, unless you took an enhancement to do so. Inherently it’s dex to hit, unless again you took an enhancement for something else.

Thank you. My excuse for a brain was definitely filtering that out.

The Great Crossbow Rogue 20 is using Dexterity To Hit (+14) and Intelligence to Damage (+18) which means...something.

The Inquisitive Rogue 18 / Barbarian 2 is using Dexterity To Hit (+14).

Now I need to check the rest of my characters to see what other mayhem I have created.

Most likely got it from Targeting Sights, a mechanic core enhancement.

    This wikipedia page might help.

Thank you, Kayze. Yes, that is where she got it. I think the intention was to use Harper Agent on both characters and base everything on Intelligence, but I never got around to unlocking Harper Agent. I added that to the endless To Do list.

It appears the rest of my characters are working as planned for To Hit and Damage.

Something else must be wrong with the Great Crossbow Rogue because +14/+18 is right there with all my other Epic characters.

To be clear, she would be perfectly fine in a group, hanging back and sniping. Solo, she constantly gets swarmed even with traps and stuff deployed.

One of the main downsides of the great crossbow rogue is the relative lack of AoE damage. Do you have Improved Precise Shot?

    I remember. It gets smaller.

Especially now that you're Level 20, you can go back and crush lower level content for Favor.

o 310 favor for Harper tree (all alts on that server!)
o 700 favor for Falconry (but you pro'ly already have a lot!)
o 180 favor for Vistani Knife Fighter (Quest Level 10-12)
o 225 favor for Inquisitive (yes pls!)
o 135 favor for Feydark Illusionist (Quest Level 5-9 - easy!)
o 400 (out of possible 460++) favor for Horizon Walker (QL 1-14)

Just pick one and march towards it. At Lvl 20, many are just a matter of spending the time (and following the Wiki if you don't know the quest!), no challenge involved. (With some, you have a chance to get some good named loot along the way!)

If you're F2P and can't open Elite it's tougher, but if you ask nicely you can often find a Guildie or kind soul who will act as an Opener* while you knock these out on Elite.

(* They don't need to quest with you, just let you be part of their party while you solo, and you can open Elite.)

    GL!

Hmmm. No. These are my notes for her:

    Mechanic 34 36
    Strength 12
    Dexterity 14
    Constitution 14
Intelligence 14 < All points to Intelligence
    Wisdom 10
    Charisma 14
    Mechanic 44 / Assassin 23 / Acrobat 3 ?
    1 Rapid Reload
    1 Point Blank Shot
    3 Rapid Shot
    6 Precise Shot > Dodge
9 Precision (Formerly Insightful Reflexes) > Mobility
    10 Improved Evasion
    12 Improved Critical: Ranged Weapons
    13 Slippery Mind
15 Improved Precise Shot (Requires 19 Dexterity) > Shot on the Run
    16 Opportunist
    18 Insightful Reflexes > Precision
    19 Defensive Roll
    21 Overwhelming Critical
    24 Combat Archery
26 Epic Spell Power: Positive (Why?)
    28 Deific Warding
    30 Epic Reflexes
30 Scion of the Ethereal Plane

However, I did not follow my own notes and I do not remember why.

    She has:

    41 Mechanic
    24 Assassin
    3 Thief-Acrobat (for the speed)
4 Vistani Knife Figherer (for negative resist and favored enemy undead)
8 Human (skill boost; healing amplification; don't count me out; sniper)

    Combat Archery
    Deific Warding
    Doubleshot
    Holy Strike (why?)
    Epic Fortitude
    Epic Reflexes
    Overwhelming Critical
    Precision
    Improved Critical: Ranged Weapons
    Point Blank Shot
    Precise Shot
    Rapid Reload
    Rapid Shot
    Insightful Reflexes
    Slippery Mind
    Improved Evasion
    Opportunist
    Defensive Roll

Why did I give up Improved Precise Shot and why was I thinking of dropping Precise Shot for all that Mobility stuff? I just do not remember.

Thank you, C-Dog. I have six accounts, all Premium, which complicates everything. I have three characters who can open Elite but they are all level 14 right now. Three can open Hard. I have looked at the page you linked many times. Unlocking Favor perks and reaching 5,000 Favor are things I always intended to do, some day, but there was always something else more important or I was sick.

Anyway, now that I know where to look for To Hit and Damage I can work on fixing that for the two ranged characters. It appears all the melee characters are correct. The casters have different fish to fry.

Probably because IPS requires 19 dex. Getting at least a +2 dex tome from favor would make your life a lot easier.

She has +5 Tomes on Dexterity and Intelligence and +4 Tomes on everything else which means...I don't know. Maybe the tomes came later.

Assuming you can make the Dex requirement, you could swap some Feats around and dump Rapid Shot for IPS. It's been reported that, while RS gives a nice boost at lower levels, by the time you get to 20 it's only a couple %'s improvement.

(Since IPS has a high BAB requirement (+11), it will pro'ly take you more than one swap. So, unless you took RS at BAB +11 or later, Use Fred's free swap for the more expensive one.)

Great. If you are willing to entertain a slight class change, 18 rogue/2 artificer makes for a much better great crossbow character. We are going all the way up to 21 dex for Improved Sneak Attack.

Thanks Kayze. Last night, while unable to sleep, I looked at at least one configuration much like the one you wrote up.

Unfortunately, it will not work for many reasons. It would take a year to level her from one. She does not have access to Inquisitive. So on.

Since I cannot identify any quick fixes I will shelve my ranged characters for now. It's fine.

Ah, I assumed you had account-wide access to inquisitor because of your other character. Here is a pure rogue version with no inquisitor:

Thank you, Kayze. I have 6 accounts, each with different stuff, which complicates everything. Once I have Harper Agent unlocked, I will perform an Epic reset on the pure Rogue and give it a try.

When you do unlock inquisitor (which is just the sharn chains), do try swapping into inquisitor. No Holds Barred is that good.

Unlocking that tree is one of many items on my To Do list. A viable ranged character will make quests like Just Business much easier. There are a lot of hurdles to cross between here and there.
