DDO is refusing point blank to allow any interaction at character selection screen.
On the early hours of Monday, 8th August, 2022, I had come back to the PC to go back to hardcore. On clicking the launcher it came up with a "change in program" dialogue box. It's happened before, I've never had a problem. So hit yes, it went through it's pre-load sequence, and DDO started as normal. This is the first time in 5 years, I've had any sort of issue.
I should note I haven't adjusted anything whatsoever. This includes no fiddling around with the headset, no messing with the graphics card, or even changing the TV input or replacing the keyboard or mouse. Everything was as it was, when I had left the HC server a few hours before.
And I restarted DDO. First thing I noticed, it was loading slower as normal. I put that down to a lot of people wanting to load into HC.
Then when I hit the character selection screen, there was no avatar stood there, and if you tried interacting with the character selection, the client would go to "not responding" and crash.
First thing I did was go to the client. I had been using it in 64 bit mode, so switched it to 32 bit mode to see if it made a difference. It did not. Then i went to repair option, and tried that. It immediately crashed when trying to do the repair.
Then I bit the bullet, uninstalled DDO and reinstalled it fully. Tried that, nothing, still crashes.
Reinstalled directx via the link that was provided by Stoner81 when he answered a similar question in 2016.
Pulled my headset out so it'd default back - nothing; as someone had provided a solution for what they went through. Tried that, that didn't work.
Found the userpreferences file and adjusted the D3D option and reset that to 1. Still crashes.
Renamed the userpreferences to olduserpreferences and then forced it to create a new userpreferences file, in order to reset all the settings.
There was a change... it allowed me to actually interact with the client, and move the slider bar up and down to select an avatar. Tried doing that, then it timed out and refused to connect.
Using Windows 7 (I know the support for 7 has stopped, but for the work that I do remotely, it requires Win 7. The software i have to use, has a hissy fit and cries when try to use newer OS).
Graphic drivers are uptodate for the OS.
I've sent in a ticket to support too.
No, I don't use Steam to access DDO.
Yes, I have VIP (my subscription renewed 2 days ago).
And I checked my firewall, everything is fine.
Any suggestions?
