Im not getting crashes to desktop but I am having a lot of issues with my characters getting stuck in the environment. Sometimes its lag, but other times no matter how long I wait nothing happens. I can access the rest of the game but my character will not move. Can be mid jump, climbing a ladder, running... its annoying as heck in dungeons.
Since I have no idea how to start my own thread on this horribly designed forum, I have to do it through a reply.
I logged in yesterday, no issues. I mean, I am missing over 2000 ddo points worth of stuff, but thats nothing new with these monkeys.
Now, I cannot log in. I completely wiped and reloaded the game, and I am still getting, 'Failed to queue to server 0x80004005'.
I updated all my windows.
FIX THIS. NOW!

Whoever said OpenAL crashes is OS issue is obviously wrong. Crashes started after IoD release, end of story. And they're still happening.
They said that it COULD be the issue (and was for them). In my case, it's saying ntdll.dll rather than OpenAL. I've got about 65 events looking like this.
Faulting application name: dndclient64.exe, version: 5602.51.1921.4007, time stamp: 0x632a6361
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.22000.918, time stamp: 0x57b668f2
Exception code: 0xc0000005
November and it's still crashing frequently in Isle of Dread only - this thread is still number one result for "crash" search
I've been crashing on and off all week, but today I crashed in Isle of Dread right after zoning in to the wilderness from the village. It's not just wilderness, it happens in IoD quests too.
I tried to log back in; it tried to send me back to where I crashed in the wilderness. Crashed again immediately about 6 times in a row - game breaking at that point!
Googled, found this thread, disabled sound on character select screen since I couldn't zone the character in
Success! I zoned in and didn't crash
I am suspecting it could be related to my Sentient Resolute jewel trying to talk to me, which it kept trying to do on zone in
Sentient (Resolute) jewel sounds could explain why it appears to be random; since the jewel talks randomly while we play
Anything I can do to help developers debug it?
It is happening to me too. Even outside the IoD. rarity is circa once in 5-20 hours ingame
Fixed my OpenAL32.dll crashes by not using Bluetooth and haven't experienced a ntdll.dll crash since disabling Core Isolation in Windows.
I only started getting the crashes on a new rig I built in December. The old rig never had a crash. Aside from the new hardware the two differences that stood out for the DLL's reported in the events were bluetooth and Windows 11.
OpenAL32.dll:
The soundbar I kept around can use both bluetooth and optical. The old rig used optical and I had went with bluetooth for the new rig. I went back to optical and haven't had a OpenAL32.dll crashe since then. That was the most frequent crash.
ntdll.dll:
I came across a random YouTube video that called out Core Isolation being enabled by default with a fully patched Windows 11 installation. After disabling that I haven't experienced a ntdll crash yet. Not only did it do that but it increased my FPS dramatically. It was already good for DDO but it was amazing for "The Calisto Protocol". That game went from suggesting a medium graphics setting to ultra...
Adding my two cents here as to why things are crashing.
For me it has to do with updating flat surface windows while moving in a 3d environment.
Now, nobody is probably doing inventory work while running around but I bet a lot of people are running around Isle Of Dread or other wilderness areas with their Map open.
And while not exactly noticeable, your map (a flat surface area) is continuously being updated with new data (depending somewhat on your object draw distance) while running around in a 3d environment.
Isle of dread is especially problematic as some encounters have random spawn points.
I bet one of these points neither has a named mini boss nor a chest tight to it, and thus a null pointer crash occurs?
And perhaps that is tight in to some audio file as it tries to play the appropriate tune for the encounter but can't load up a file as there is no default set or can't load up that null file?
Raptors!!!
Whatever work was done on them for IoD made changes to their roar/scream attack and unless they are CCed the moment they use that ability my game locks up and crashes straight to desktop. "A sharn welcome" is rough because Teague the named raptor does this move too and cannot be crowd controlled. But the quest I find the most problematic is "Captive of the hidden God" where if this happens the game crashes I get booted from the quest and have 0 option to re-enter I have to start the quest over since the game will not hold the instance.
Hi,
I am constantly having this problem, if its not 6-7 times a day I celebrate. Don't own Isle of Dread so its not happening there - but it happens just about anywhere else.
Usually when I'm going between screens (teleporting), but this is not always the case. I can be standing around doing nothing and it still crashes.

Hi,
Finally fixed it maybe - don't bother asking what was wrong (don't know)
I was having anywhere from 10-20 DC's in a game session over 4-5 hours and it was killing the joy.
I had done countless repairs and a couple of un-installs and re-installs and I still had the problem.
Was actually contemplating buying a new computer as this one is about 4-5 years old.
But I did one final thing - I un-installed the game then went to the directory
Documents\Dungeon and Dragons and I copied ddo.keymap and userpreferences files and then deleted that directory,
then I went to Program Files (x86)\StandingStoneGames and deleted that directory,
I then restarted the computer and
did a new install of the game and copied those 2 files back into the documents directory and replaced the new ones.
I then restarted the computer to allow any registry updates
And I've not DC'd for about a week and a bit - not once.
I suspect it was a corrupt file (DDO) or registry problem and having to create the directories and copy a new version onto my computer fixed it.

Not sure if mentioned on here but I was crashing to desktop pretty frequently on my windows 11 pc. It turned out it was my wireless Bluetooth headset. As soon as I switched to a USB headset I haven't experienced a crash since.
Thought it worth mentioning.
This was it for me also. Could provoke a crash to desktop on demand with Teal, either version. Then I switched from older TurtleBeach headphones to new Razer headphones and the problem went away instantly.
The only crashes to desktop I have had in DDO were right after I got Isle of Dread and was exposed to raptors.
I have seen explanations elsewhere that suggest the crashes were caused by incompatible sound drivers and that wireless headphones have a separate sound driver from the main system.
Server: Orien
Quest: Epic Partycrashers. Just got by the third gate, and crash to desktop. Happened six times in a row.

Zavina, Are you by chance using a bluetooth audio device similar to the folks who posted above?
If you are, could you try this again using something else?
We have been doing some troubleshooting w/ the Audio files used for Raptors and IOD recently on Lam.
Thanks!
Hey Humble.
Nope, not using any bluetooth equipment.

I used to crash in the Feywild all the time. Either by passing certain parts of the wilderness or while zoning into the wilderness from a quest. I've since turned on "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" and haven't had the issue since. You can find it by right clicking desktop and going to "Display settings" and scroll down to "Graphics settings." It's turned on by default so I don't know how it got turned off, but it seems as though turning it on fixed it.
I also had a crashing issue with "Game Mode" turned on. You can find that in Windows settings under "Gaming." Supposedly Game Mode is to help play games on weaker hardware, but can be detrimental when used on capable hardware. I would just go and turn off both "Game Mode" and "Xbox Game Bar."
Also a good idea to make sure your graphics drivers are always up to date.
