There are folks that do the 1-20 train to knock out class and racial lives. This gives them a chance to test out various classes and builds and just learn the mechanics of the game before then switching to the Iconic and Epic train. These are the ones that are really affected by the token grind.
Those that have been playing for many year need to look at it from the new player stand point. You have nothing in the way of resources. No epic gear or the uber power from dozens of Epic TR's. Getting all the heroic's TR's done gives a good starting point for Epic/Iconic. By then they have some decent gear sets from expansions like Sharn to help with the power creep and the past life bonuses to help then through the 20 - 32 levels the first few times.
A good test would be to try and farm tokens during the next HCL where you have nothing to start with. Getting those tokens is a pain when you don't have them in your bank or hundreds of fragments from the past 10 years of playing.
If DDO does not get a little better and being noob friendly it is only a matter of time before it dies. This is not doomsaying it is just simple mathematics.
If it ain't broke, you're not trying hard enough.
I think that's a solid point!
Looking back, I remember many times when I found something new in inventory or in an auto-collect bag, and thought "... what the hades is THIS???!!!..." So I figured it out (the DDOWiki is your friend), and was a better prepared player for it!
Honestly I just wish there was more epic content in general. I'm kidna worried they're just gonna forget about epic forever now that legendary exists and 20-30 will be the exact same grind every life while heroic and legendary become more and more diverse.
Run Epic Normal Devil Assault with you main and 5 alt toons (you can use coupon code to get Devil assault pack for free). Each run will give you 12 tokens (2 tokens x 6 toons). I have around 1000+ tokens sitting idle as I have lost interest in TR hamster cycle for now.
For me this is an issue as I look at it like this (and a new person might view it this way as well).
'Oh wow, I finally reached level 20 and can reincarnate to get a kewl past life boon and those little funny symbols on my name so I look like one of the kewl folks. What, how do I reincarnate!? You mean I have to do more grinding just to be able to start over at level one!?!? This is stupid, this game sucks.' <back to a different game>
Just how I see it and feel sometimes.
Last week when I did Red Fens on R1, I only got fragments from those chests, not tokens.
I don't care so much personally as I'm in the group that have already collected all tokens I need for my racial lifes via earlier epic grinding. However, I understand the frustration for those who are starting out their journeys with 1-20 lvl TRs.

I was not clear - some of those magenta chests do not (usually/often) drop full tokens. That is one reason the "dailies" consist of those specific quests, b/c they do (tend to) drop full tokens (some more than 1!).

Try Lords of Dust - that's a winner.
This^ is what I expect as well. We have a gaping dearth of epic content for levels 25 and 26 (7 and 9 quests respectively) and more seriously levels 28 and 29 (3 and 4 quests respectively). There should be double-digit numbers of quests for each of these levels but End Game rules the roost, drives the decisions. If its not End Game a lot of players complain it doesn't matter/should be ignored. A good part of that complaint sits on the foundation of the decision to reward more Reaper XP at End Game/cap. But its also propped on the past having End Game/Cap gear with just Power Warp Drive stats in comparison to even slightly lower level equipment. Now of course we have a more standard progression in gear (thank you devs) but they just aren't going to be able to develop any loot for those levels that people will really want anyway when better loot already exists you just have to level into it. So? How do you develop content just for diversity of questing? Is it really worth their effort? Idk.

As suggested in the thread. At the very least, SSG should consider using comms for a trade-in.
I'm sure they have somerthing planned for legendary reincarnations, hearts, tokens and seeds will need some type of change, we just haven't heard anything yet.
Dennis the Peasant: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
As long as Legendary XP is held after reincarnation I think there is plenty to do when you are 20-30. Legendary quests are relatively easy to run on Hard long before 30. However, once Legendary TR gives us a reason to spend that XP, I can see a need for more epic content. I think a good solution is to have new content be epic/legendary instead of heroic/legendary for a while. there are over 440 quests in heroics, I think we can stand to have a few more epic quests. If the quests are also Legendary, that should solve the "end game" problem.
