When does Freedom of Movement actually provide a benefit?

Observations, background, and basis for my questions:

• I've come across several threads where folks talk about how important FoM is. Of course, I've also come across threads that talk about problems with FoM.
• I occasionally see folks ask for a FoM spell to be cast upon them. I don't recall what quests(s) that was in. I will be paying attention in the future, as knowing which quests might help answer my question.
• I primarily play as ranged DPS, and occasionally as melee DPS.
• I occasionally fall victim to Earth Grab. I understand FoM does not prevent this.
• I very rarely am hampered by Sleet Storm or Ice Storm. It's generally not a problem to walk out of the AoE, or to quickly kill the caster and end the effect.

My questions:

• FoM does not seem all that useful. Am I missing something?
• Do certain roles/classes benefit more from FoM?
• When do you use or notice significant benefit from FoM?

FOM is good against paralyzed, holds i believe, web, entangle.

it also helps with slippery surfaces icestorm fog, and also like the water ramps through out sewer quests. the water ramps you stand on and it moves you slowly.

it is useful i always keep it on my equipment so i don't even give it a second thought haven't thought about what it really does sense Ravenloft came out. so my memory not that good about what it does

edit so if you have high saves to save from web or paralyze, spell hold monster not that important to have FOM. it depends on your build, feats, enhancement trees. like everything in this game your build and equipment you have determine your strengths and weaknesses. is fom important, well my build incredably life changing important your build maybe not so idk

I find it kinda useful ... usually in quests were web or grease gets 'cast' a lot ... darn those puppies & vulkar/oob and a few other quests mostly in heroic and mostly for melee where getting to a mob is important or annoying when you get slowed down

Freedom of Movement is one of those things in life, like using a Seat Belt or wearing Protective Glasses, that does not matter until the moment it matters, and from that point onward, you will always want to have it.
