Good Morning,
I am looking for a guild again. This is a bit long and there is a bit of sarcasm in this post which just might get some upset. If you do get upset with this, That is not my problem. I am frustrated at this point. A lot of this is my frustration with Guilds in general. So if you are a leader of a guild please read all of this.
I finally got a toon to level 30 for the first time since I joined in 2016. Endgame content needs to have groups and PUGs on Sarlona are useless. Frankly, I have found PUGs on any server useless because I actually have toons on all the servers. Another thing I know is that I am a bit more extroverted than most players of this game. Communication is very important.
What I am writing is true from my perspective. My take is this most guild are populated by elitist older players who put up posts to join their guilds. That is a way to say they want to grow the game but in reality, they just do not care about growing the game by providing a guild experience that is actually what an old PnP Dungeons and Dragons game was. A few people having fun playing a game. I first heard about Dungeons and Dragons was from my roommate during my freshman year in college in 1975. He was into it big time. I did not get involved with the old PnP version until 81 and stopped playing in 83 while I was in the Navy.
As someone with a Business degree I know if you want to grow the game and retain new players then people in guilds need to get off the Raid, Reaper, and their TR routine Trains. New players or in my case a older player without Mario skills because that was something my kid played with growing up. I would like to CHALLENGE THE COMMUNITY OF ESTABLISHED GUILDS to prove me wrong. I am not asking for much. Just a guild that is willing to help out a newbie-type player like me. Running quests that you may not run on a regular basis just to help out the newer player who is not ready to get into Reaper mode all the time or Raids. I would love to get into doing Reaper now and have enjoyed doing Saturday teaching Raids with Voodu. Those raids are something I look forward to because it is the only time I get to play with a group. I always have fun and learn a lot.
Again from my perspective, the majority of established guilds seem to only want to run with their established guildies and do not want to take the time to put up with someone who is not on the TR train. That would be me, I have been playing off and on since 2016 mostly solo. Why Solo because PUGs are useless. I try posting them once in and while. How do I accept more than one person? There is nothing out there on how to use that interface. The interface is not easy to understand and there is nothing out there to explain how you set up a PUG. The few I join the person posting them just want to zerg the quest solo with some others there so they can accomplish whatever their goal is.
My experience with guilds is they advertise they want new players So you want to find out about them and they have a link to a website. So you click on the link for the website they have posted and it is a dead link. I have put requests to join the guild in response to what they say they are about. They accept my request so now I am in a guild. Then nothing you have access to a guild ship but no communications. Then I try to communicate with the guild leader and nothing. The other experience is I run maybe one or two quests with them than nothing. So I am putting up this post to try to find a guild. AGAIN
Below is what I posted about a month ago and was told it was in the wrong forum so here I go again.
I am on the west coast and play in the morning mostly but can play any time of the day. I mentioned that because of the variety of time zones people play in. So being able to communicate outside the game is important to coordinate game play. I am retired so I do have time on my hands. My biggest issue with most guilds I have joined in the past is a complete lack of communication once I have joined. Therefore, I have soloed most of my time playing. I also have messed around trying out different builds on heroics over the years I have played. I prefer trappers or ranged combat. I tend to be a bit of a flower sniffer on new content to get a feel for the quests. That is another reason I have done a lot of soloing because I like learning the content and like to do all the options in a quest. I have not gotten on the reincarnation train yet but will be shortly. I am currently running a first life artificer level 30 and would love to join a guild to run some end-game content on Sarlona. Like reapers finally.
I prefer to use voice chat in quests to communicate. I am not big on using tells to communicate in quests because it is difficult for me to concentrate on the quest mechanics and use that method of communication mainly because I find it distracting. Sorry but I am getting older and sometimes have a short attention span. I also did not grow up playing video games. So my experience with the game has not left me with an appreciation of PUG groups. My experience in PUGs is people tend to not want to use voice chat to communicate so not much coordination of efforts. The other thing is someone just wants to zerg through the content. Needless to say a turn-off.
I have been in guilds on most of the servers and find most will not communicate outside the game. They get you to join, run a couple of quests maybe once or twice then radio silence. Seems they just want numbers and not much more. Try sending them a tell or in-game mail and no feedback. Again I find that frustrating. If they do have a website they still will not communicate and it seems the only thing they schedule is doing reaper and raids. I have not even thought about doing reapers since the few times I tried that solo I died. Reaper is a mode of play best done in with a group that can communicate and plans. Yes, I tend to like to plan things out before starting. Guiltily of strategic planning to much.
I have not started doing reaper mode yet but would be willing to start with a good guild that knows what they are doing. I have done some raids by participating in the teaching raids Voodu does on Saturdays. I have had fun doing them. The communication is great and I have done a few quests with one of his guildies who also communicate using voice chat and puts up with my being slow with new content which I really appreciate. I tend to get myself turned around sometimes in a quest especially if it is heavy with reds and greens in the color scheme. I am colorblind so things tend to blend into the background. But I have figured out a few things to help with that.
I am retired so I can play almost any time. I normally play only 3 to 5 hours at a time and do not always play every day. That is my main reason for wanting to be able to communicate outside the game. The other thing is a play in the morning here more often than not, another reason to have good outside-the-game communications.
So if you are in a guild that likes to coordinate things offline and actually communicate I would like to join. I use the handle ChiefVisigoth on twitch and Twitter. My current toon on Sarlona is Chieftinker.
I retired from the US Navy as a Chief in the mid 90's so I decided in the last couple of years to use Chief as the first part of my toons name and Visigoth as the second part. Visigoth because I like history and they sacked Rome. Nothing like pillaging and plundering after you defeat your enemies.
I am open to running quests if you just want to do that to get to know me. A good fit for the guild is important. So please send Chieftinker a tell-in-the-game if you want me to join a group or a PM here in the forums. I will try to pay more attention to tells in the game.
I look forward to hearing from the community. Have a great day and have fun out there in the game.
I use the following names
