Default Draconic Energy Vortex is totally borked

I'm playing an eldritch knight right now and was super excited to finally upgrade my dragon breath into the energy vortex. So I grab the upgrade and start slaying monsters. After a while I notice that my Vortex is doing nothing... Definitely not a good experience.
Anyway, I wonder off to searing heights to do some testing. When just activating the strike I was unable to do any damage to anything.
However, if I hard-target a mob first and then activate it that single mob takes double dragon breath damage (this works even if they are outside the range of the character centred aura) and then the vortex will proc as per the description doing the base dragon breath damage to things around you.

Hopefully this helps people until a fix is made for this spell to behave as per the description.

Also, how do I check my DC for my dragon breath? Spells have their DC in the tooltip but the dragon breath doesn't.

yeah i noticed it was super wonky when I tried it on my EK...a lot of dry fires

I think it might also suffer from the same "dry fire if moving while cast" issue as the FS Epic Strikes. Also, yeah, something weird going on with tab target vs reticle target

Oh neat! That's an interesting workaround for a problem that should have been addressed months ago. I'll have to try it.

Look at the bright side, you could always switch to Shirardi mantle…oh wait…

In all seriousness, fatesinger might not be bad for EK.

Switch to centering your breath on yourself. The double damage plus 3 ticks (sometime) is worth it.
Sometimes I pull one out just to watch it die over and over. That's how much I hate hires.

[sarc] I guess all their resources were focussed on "fixing" Shiradi, therefore they had no time for this minor inconvenience [/sarc]

I use fatesinger on my warforged EK wizzy & yeah it's pretty effective with a nice blend of boosts for the melee & casting aspects, then combined it with some points in primal avatar heart path for cocoon, spring to summer, reborn in fire with it's boost & spirit boon, then also threw in natural shielding plus just a touch in magus for great summoner too, which makes for a pretty effective posse of decoys when soloing.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

It’s funny how I’ve posted pretty much the same post/bug around Nov 2021 when the new destinies came out and STILL they don’t care about fixing this problem… ????????

Don't tell them. This has become my favorite infinite range instakiller.
What do you mean a -6 armor class is no good anymore?

Baldric, Mulray, Tirimon, Clant, Melkazar, Dorakeen, Blastium
If one of them falls off a cliff, it ain't their fault.

For raid bosses…. Kills the raid boss you are fighting and the boss of the next one!

Well, since the cat is out of the bag...

If you can target it, no matter how far, and activate it the target takes the damage. Probably double, I don't pay attention to that usually.
The vortex swirl also activates and I do see mobs close by taking damage from that as well.

It's publicly known, but I don't think anyone cares because gaping maw is better anyways. Lock down an entire group then blast them in one shot.
