The downtime itself or the duration of it,
is not what's bothering me here :/
I live in the GMT+2(summertime) zone, and for me this means
by the time the servers come back online (after extended maintenance),
my day (of gaming) is cut really short there.
Really wish they would do european servers (again(?))

I have to say, I think revising the downtime estimates upwards would be advisable. If there's even a chance that maintenance could take 8 (or more) hours, then the initial guidance should say so.

Anyway, there's quite a chunk of players for whom logging on is now utterly pointless after possibly planning around a 6 hour absence - assuming the servers actually reopen at some point within the further 2 hours indicated.
    On a break. BRB maybe.

Nothing. Just maintenance. When they do an update, they'll usually say so.
Update 53.1 or .2 .3 and so forth. (Like, hotfixes for that update)

Given that the server for the forums went down too earlier today, I imagine it's quite honestly just maintenane related, and not any (major) update that we as players need to know of if any update is deployed.

I'm sorry, i just felt like i need to say this here, even if it's a bit off topic...
Whenever i read posts about extended maintenance (or otherwise server down) periods,
there is always a good amount of mockery (or even like, borderline hatespeech)
against DDO, against SSG, and everything around it.

While i'm certainly not happy about some stuff either,
i want DDO to live on, to get better, and i just want to
like, say some encouraging words to the devs.

Don't let the flame die out! Keep going, you already brought us this far,
i am sure we can play this game until kingdom come!
Sure things (and times) are tough, but i'm sure they'll get better
    eventually! Just hang in there!

I obviously cannot speak for SSG, but i would feel somewhat discouraged
at some point, after only (very) negative responses.
There are still REAL people behind the game... :/
    Just give them a break.

Good, bad, or otherwise. It's better to hear the opinions from all sides than to try and discourage something you find uncomfortable. I wouldn't be too concerned with hurt feelings of SSG employees being the nail in the coffin for this game. It's endured years of criticism about many of the same issues being mentioned today.

    I don't post much but...

I played tonns of mmorpg, never seen weekly maintenance that requires 6-8 hours. I am GMT +2. If you prolong it, it means I don't play today.

Lag is getting worse lately. Last week had many spikes that were 15 seconds long.

Every time I need to TR I just want to quit the game because of this inventory management. I have bought all the additional bags for character and bank. I still have to waste 20 minutes moving loot. Additionally, I need to waste more time to manually pick all the stats from lvl 1 to lvl 20. Insane.

I have invested into this game so much, that I could buy 8-10 AAA games, polished and working perfectly. Instead, within 15 years (I play since europe servers, p2p and lvl 16 cap) all I hear is empty promises.

I wouldn't write this post, if I could log in and play today, at least 6pm GMT +2.

Quick update: It seems (to me, as a layman), that they are slowly bringing the servers
back online - a few moments ago the patch/update server wasn't accessible,
i was now able to run the update on my computer.
(The servers are still marked as "CLOSED" though!)

Good thing then that DDO weekly maintenance/reboots usually are completed in ~2 hours.

Not to mention I have rarely ever seen compensation for longer downtime from this game. Almost every other game provides compensation to players for downtown. At least for subscription payers like VIP.

And horses, and pets, and constant new "ingredients, collectables, special event nonsenses", aud infinitum...

Agree with pure game and combat system being top notch, just wish the dev mindset were to focus on game and content mechanics. The sops to the whiny need to end, permanently.

The game is burdened by the weight of the extra JUNK content and it's effects on our interactions. Until SSG decides to break this paradigm of design and customer service, it leaves me to wonder... are they just moving the deck chairs and I hope this isn't the Titanic...

I hear that, I took today off from work to rest up a bit and was looking forward to getting some good DDO time in. My post was intended to express that even if feedback is negative and presented in negative ways here on the forums that it should still be considered viable and useful feedback, even if it ultimately makes little/no difference.

Default Downtime unpredictability - poor service for paying customers

Guys - I know systems require update time, however the unpredictability is very bad for the paying customers. Surely you can have a fixed time period on a fixed day of the week so Customers can manage play around that?
I organise with my paying friends to not play on weds afternoons (europe time) and then you switch to thursday it messes up our plans. Also if you say 4 hours and then extend to 6 hours and then the servers are still not up after 7 hours (19:00 GMT now) again it messes up our plans. Surely you can have a fixed regular window for downtime and if an update goes wrong then back it out in the allotted window (that is basic software upgrade process).
I am a devoted player (played since beta) but most of my gaming buddies have/are ditching the game as it messes up our group playing plans.

It's really worse when you play in europe and you have alt-titis. I think this game is an inventory tetris game, not an mmo. But that's on me, not the game! The 'whole day downtime' is the game's fault
