Default U53 Completionist's Guide to Feydark Sorcerer

The complete write up is available in Google Docs because it is too long for the forum software to handle. Gear, enhancements, epic destinies, frequently asked questions, and a breakdown of all important stats are included.

I've mentioned this build in other threads for more than a year. All credit goes to matty on Khyber for all the variations this build has gone through, and keeping it going after the stat squish. I didn't quite appreciate how awesome this build was when he was running it in our static R10 group. After running a full round of R10s at level cap with it myself, it's the most fun I've ever had on a caster. Feydark Illusionist is a highly underrated tree for Sorcerer.

I hope you find it helpful.

Nice, I learned some new things. Didn't know the augmented summoning topaz counted for the purposes of having the feat for FDI illusory augmentation enhancement. That's pretty neat.

One of your ED screenshots or the spell pen breakdown is incorrect. You have 14 points spent in magus, which is impossible to obtain both piercing spellcraft rank 3 and partial eclipse rank 3. I also think you could spare a point from imperceptible casting for lunar insight. 10% less threat OR an extra ~200 sp per 3 minutes.

For completeness, you could also include the magus spell pen feat as a swap in your spell pen breakdown, if you encounter quests/content that needs it. Losing the cooldown reduction kinda sucks, but +3 spell pen in a pinch can be nice.

Also, I'm a bit confused on your meteor swarm and mass invis choices? Surely energy drain (or power word kills with the lunar insight proc), would be better for the level 9 spell? And am I missing a use case for mass invis? Disco seems like a better choice just for those rare times, where its nice to have up as a prep.

    Anyways, thanks for posting this

With these spells, I believe this spell list was taken from his current life, where he is using Mass invis while we are pushing skulls on the new Hunt or be Hunted raid. It is useful in some circumstances, but disco is not a useful spell in r10, so we don't tend to take it. Meteor swarm is a nice aoe salt/ice debuff/cc option, and energy drain is not needed with DC's where they are currently. Power word kill is too long cooldown, even with the cooldown reset, to be worthwhile in my opinion.

Regarding the lunar insight, certainly an option if you find that you are running out of spell points. this isnt something i found common so i decided against it.

I thought I read here somewhere (or elsewhere, whatever) that Reaper ring boost does not stack with Reaper's Focus (the +3 DC "action boost"). I never bothered to test it.

Lich fixed that for U53. Prior to that, it wasn't working.

One of your ED screenshots or the spell pen breakdown is incorrect.
The screenshots are correct; the calcs were wrong. Not enough AP to get the 3 spell pen from Magus.

For completeness, you could also include the magus spell pen feat as a swap in your spell pen breakdown, if you encounter quests/content that needs it. Losing the cooldown reduction kinda sucks, but +3 spell pen in a pinch can be nice.
I can live without the spell pen. I can't live without the spell cooldown reduction. The only time spell pen is an issue is Tethymar, and I just lean on Greater Color Spray a bit more.

Also, I'm a bit confused on your meteor swarm and mass invis choices?
Feel free to experiment. I've swapped spells around as needed to suit my needs. As matty pointed out, Mass Invis is for our Hunt or Be Hunted mid-skull push right now. I'd rather not lose 500+ SP swapping to a scroll, which we use at the beginning on everyone but the tanks to make it easier to establish initial archer aggro.

I run R10 exclusively for legendary quests, so Otto's Dancing Sphere isn't an option.

The incorporeal and concealment numbers in the guide are backwards. Also the shadowdancer stance adds a stacking 25% to concealment from depths of darkness so it should be 75% with displacement.

    Default Action Boost Spellpower?

Whats the purpose of the 1 point in AB:Spellpower?

You write that you get 15% extra dodge when boosting, i just dont see quite how

If its just filler you could instead grab +1 intim in t1

It's filler. Yes, I could grab +1 Intim, etc.

+15% dodge comes from the upgraded Meld Into Darkness when I use Nightmare Lance.

This is great. Been saving my last sorc life. Might do this one or might do a nuker as I have not really done an endgame sorc nuker before. I did a very similar build to this in early 2021. Was going winter, was maxing FI, max DC but also had some melee back up for when PUGs lack DPS on raid bosses or helping with dooms etc. It was before stat squish and when Fatesinger was not providing as much DCs but I was able to get above the DC threshold enough to go Fatesinger, take the old Fatesinger debuff stuff and using the T6 Fury thing (forget what it was called) with Falconry haste boost to make a noticeable difference using melee with Esper (DnD shadowblade) on boss dps (was able to max DCs and spell pen with main hand open). Was also happy to find I could usually tank a doom long enough when things went south on R10. I don't think I ever found a better way to snag max Necro without the Alchemical Orb (e.g. The Eclipse Itself staff was not as good for me).

I’ve been running something similar, but I wanted a bit of DPS for those occasions I want to solo so my gear set up is different. Flamecleansed, Elders, 2piece LGS, and the usual suspects to fill it out. DCs are maxed, but slightly lower PRR and no legendary HP.

Looks like there might be some leftover stuff from when your were in medium armor. Why take armored arcana (EK T4) or Hell and Back 3piece?

What kind of reflex save are you hitting? I kind of gave up on evasion so stuck with medium armor and a large shield (gives an effective PRR/MRR of 500/400ish against things evasion would work against, so way better when you fail saves.)

Thanks the write-up. Prob gonna ditch my DPS soon for full DCs and defense and I’ll definitely be using some stuff from this.

Default Heavy armor + Tower Shield

You can very easily just wear Legendary Plate of the Winter Solstice + Alchemical Tower shield with 0 arcane failure.

and give up 30% dodge and evasion, for 50-60 extra mrr, and a small amount of prr. not close to worthwhile

How are you getting heavy armor proficiency, without that you actually lose PRR vs light or medium armor. Also tower shields cap your dodge quite low, 4ish with mithral if I remember correctly, so you’re losing 12% dodge to gain 5 PRR/MRR vs med armor and a large shield. Not a great trade off in my opinion.

    IMO the worthwhile options are
Light armor/small shield: Evasion (if you can hit useful reflex save numbers), 30% dodge, but capped MRR
Med Armor/large shield: No evasion but double PRR/MRR against reflex save stuff, 16% dodge, uncapped MRR, higher base PRR/MRR

Yep, could drop that if you never want to wear medium armor. Don't see many options to spend 2 AP elsewhere though.

Hell and Back 3pc is just happenstance. I'm not gearing for the +10 MRR bonus specifically. I could have slotted any random Charisma +1 filigree instead of Hell and Back: Charisma.

Gaining 30 PRR and losing 26% dodge is a poor tradeoff.

Reflex is perfectly servicable in R10s. This is self buffed, and I only have a Good Luck +2 aug slotted:

130 MRR does just fine. Even in R10 Hunt or Be Hunted, 130 MRR was enough in the maze. I did slightly respend in Primal Avatar to pick up the 3rd core for 15% cold absorb though. And if I had remembered to, I could have swapped to the medium armor just for the maze for another 44 MRR.

I've completed 200+ R10s at level cap with this setup. It works amazingly well, and is the most fun I've ever had on a caster...and that includes the ridiculously good pre-nerf Alchemist on which I earned 25million RXP.

Ok I suspect I am missing something why Contagion? Given that it's a level 4 spell and probably one of the more coveted level slots what makes it more useful than keeping Dimension Door for this?

Ddoor is in core 2 of shadowdancer.

Blinding sickness from contagion is really, really good in certain niche situations.

I suppose it's worth keeping if you do find yourself swapping to med armor sometimes. The Shield Temp HP from the same level in EK would be nice otherwise. The other set from the +2 Char fili (Embraced by light?) gives 10USP for its 3 piece, so is more useful if you rarely go into med armor.

We'll probably agree to disagree on this one. 91 reflex is certainly good, but not what I'd consider no-fail, so I prefer uncapped MRR and Large shield for the 2xPRR/MRR against reflex save damage, and better defense against non-reflex based stuff. I threw together a Med armor set kinda based on what you have here. Here's my self-buffed stats in reaper (didn't bother with abishai cookies for the screenshot, but have most other stuff running). Missing one item and need to farm up some mats for my slavers aug slot, so will have 3 more aug slots. Lots of room for improvement with mythic/reaper boosts since most of it was newly farmed this week, although I did put reap stats on the helm and the boots are m3/r5 crafted. Also I don't have 5%HP from Falconry currently since I needed some other stuff for our current project.
