Who said anything about "upgrading the servers"? SSG does not "upgrade". Our last official "server upgrade" almost resulted in the death of the game. Gland has never recovered from their "upgrades".

Looks like someone started the update when it wasn't ready to be updated. I just wish that the people who are responsible for those things were just a bit more reliable. No personal attack here, just a fact

DDO not really reliable to be frank.

Will play a different game and use their in-game store since we cannot play DDO.

    Cheers

The game worlds have reopened. One additional note to add (it will be added to the Release Notes shortly):

    • Updates have been made to the Name filters and some other forms of text filters in the game. Chat filters have not been updated at this time, but will be in a future patch. We will continue to adjust these as needed.
We don't only build for the builds that exist.
We don't only build for the builds that are good right now.

The fact that some changes are necessary is not diminished by the fact that other necessary changes have not happened yet.

Yeah they were updating the login server stuff it would seem which would not be in the release notes but may have affected the timing.

Additionally this item in the notes:
    • We are continuing to work on general improvements to server performance. Specifically in this release, improvements have been made to technical dungeon message processing optimization that we identified as having a weighty impact on game performance. Players may also see specific improvements in outdoor adventure area performance.

is hard to quantify as to the upgrade impact. Maps, quests, and gameplay are built into the game code and easy to deploy once built. But if the "message processing" requires changes to server sub systems or some form of inter-server communication, it could be complex and require reconfig of servers that can really only happen once the game is offline. Of course we don't really know what that line means but the point is the lightness of the user facing changes is not a true indicator of the complexity of the update.

This^, in so many words, is how you say time and feedback on Lamannia are wasted.

LOL, you really dont know much about IT do you....

For example... Azure and AWS do deployments every 30 minutes to their infrastructure, yet almost never take down time. How could this be?????

Tighter or looser?? "Update" and "adjust" both sound ominous as heck.

Unsure if question is rhetorical, but mirrored servers would a hint. Something I don't think they run here or Hobbit-side.

Different server HW, different underlying SW code. DDO is based on programming language and design almost 20 years old.
Are you asking why programming from two decades ago can't do everything Microsoft Azure- a current programming code with all the lessons learned in design and spec in its foundation- can do... the concept of a crank starting engine not being able to start by a key-fob must really be confounding.

No MMORPG including the one running on AWS don't require downtime for updates that I know of. New World Amazon MMORPG that running on AWS have maintenance downtimes for updates.

The HArdcore server is still available- means we have more time for afterworkparty?
