Feeling Isolated and Alone

Because of the pandemic, I've spent most of the past two years locked up in my apartment, like a lot of you. I've had DDO to keep me company, as well as some other games. You'd think a gamer like me would love to have an excuse to stay in and game all day.

But at some point, I just got lonely. Even though I live in an apartment complex, surrounded by other people carrying on their lives just next door in just about every direction, I feel SO ISOLATED. I know I'm not alone in this, but it doesn't make it any less difficult.

Why am I on a seldom visited MMO site saying this? I don't know.

But I am.

I have a lot of preexisting conditions that make the current Pandemic of great danger to me. So, I've also been mostly isolating myself at home - mostly only venturing forth to walk the dog around the same few streets. I kinda feel like Rapunzel up in my tower, a lotta days.

But, hey - I've gotten a lot of painting for my wife's and my own Warhammer40k armies done. Doesn't really help the feelings - but still stokes the dopamine fires a bit.

Online communities help - as does Roll20. But man, I'm looking forward to being able to go out again. And if my Foo Fighters tickets in August get cancelled - I'mma be [irritated].

There are internet forums for exactly that : Getting in contact with other people.

There are other RPG forums out there as well, land I guess even forums about table top D&D, too ?


Meanwhile I have to work each day, I get my "daily dose" of internet forums, too, albeit mostly other ones. It helps me staying connected, as I never had many friends in my life time (but great work collegues !). It even turned out that 2 new ones at owork are also into table top RPGs ...

Obviously a little late to the OP post, but...

Our Tavern thread has always been my go-to to keep 'in touch' with folks, even if we have slowed down a LOT in last couple years. I'm not an overly social person at the best of times, with rare exceptions like the past Gen Con Gatherings. (alcohol probably played a part in that )
