Posted this in another section, but decided to post it here for all the monk lovers put there

My main character has been a monk since I created her about 10 years ago. This was back when the monks were nothing but a support roll, adding a bit of buffs and used mainly as a scout/kiter because of the fast speeds. Over the course of the years the monks increased in power till they were right up there with barbarians in terms of damage, due to the increase die step with monk levels and the fast attack speed. Couple that with the high dodge and good AC, and monks made for a formidable off tank for any situation. Sadly, that did not last. Several nerfs later and the addition of PRR/MRR saw the monks getting pushed further and further down the list. I ended up TRing my monk into a pure THF Fighter for raw damage. And that is where she stayed... until now.

But there is a light on the horizon. With U51 and the changes to GMoF, monks are starting to see the light again. I decided to bring the monk back out, but with a twist. I liked the number of feats the fighter got, and the Kensei tree had some interesting things in it. So I thought I would try and blend the flexibility of the fighter with the speed of the monk. What I ended up with is a 14 fighter/6 monk hybrid built around the kensei tree. This mix gives me the ability to take all the tactical feats to bring my stuns up by 15 points (which is a huge boost). Kensei also makes up for the slight damage loss by not going pure monk. Falconry gives me WIS hit/damage along with the Wis trance. and splashing some shintao in there for the mass remove curse (great in raids like VOD or Shroud).

For race, I went Aasimar with the Fallen Bond. Having +10 Melee Power and Vulnerability permanently on any weapon, plus LOH and insane healing amp makes this an attractive option.

For destinies.. I went heavy into GMoF. There is just so much for the monk in there. T3 is especially crucial as you get 25% elemental absorption, plus an additional 25% matching the stance you are in. This makes it easy to swap to the element needed. Running THTH? get in fire stance for a 50% absorption. Spies?? Air stance is your friend. Couple that with a great epic moment (giving an additional 50% dodge and dodge cap for 30 seconds), and a +15 MRR cap increase and this build gets much more survivable than before. Splashed in a little Legendary dreadnaught for the extra tactics DCs as well.

Gear is where I struggled a bit, and could always use help here. For the armor, I went with the Outfit of the Celestial Avenger. I always thought this was a good outfit, but with the Sharn sets ruling the melee game it got pushed to the side. With the gear shake-up, I was able to incorporate this into the mix. Tyrannical Tinkerer set makes up for part of the sharn set, then adding in 4 pieces of the Summer set for even more stun DC's, and 3 Winter for some HP/survivability. If you are in a situation where you need more HP and don't need the stuns, swap the boots and bracers of the summer set for the winter set and get some extra HP. Couple raid items are needed (Helm and Trinket from DOD) and the Feytwisted belt is a must. For wraps, I am sure Duality is better, but I don't have those. I went with the Handwraps of the Hound as I pulled those a while back. The were underwhelming at first, but with the mobs in epic getting a stat reduction, the Sovereign Nightmare goes off A LOT.

*Note: This is a Racial and Class completionist build, as that is what my main character is.. if you don't have racial completionist, you would need to invest less in the Aasimar tree. If you don't have the completionist feat, swap in Spring Attack there for extra dodge)
