Since you brought up Esoteric, I guess I can mention one cute hidden benefit of using robes over light/medium armor, which is the ability to swap to the Reveler's Regalia, activate Night Horrors, and swap back to set armor without having to wait 5 seconds to equip. This is really nice for boss fights, where casters need as much critical multiplier as they can get to be as relevant as the physical DPS guys.
Oh! That does make sense. I'm also playing around with just going Esoteric Initiate as well. Esoteric is armor, goggles, bracers so you can still do Esoteric and Gloryborne together.
You can also give up the Elder's crit damage in exchange for more healing amp / insightful fort / etc. I'm torn because I understand what you're saying about needing the spell crit damage for boss fights, but if I'm going spellsinger then I'm probably not really there for high boss damage.
I also like the Legendary Softsole Slippers because they're one stop shopping for perform, insightful qual and ghostly in addition to having Anthem. (Although maybe Anthem isn't important anymore? I haven't actually played Bard in quite a while)
