    Default Leveling Guide XP/Min

You asked for it, here you go...

    I assume the following:
#1 you just want to grind it out fast
#2 you need 3.25M Xp and have a basic tome of learning and or an xp pot or two
#3 You should have reasonable gear set and ensure your difficulty level reflects the target completion time (if you can only do Hard within the time frame, then do hard.. likewise if you have several past lifes and good gear do it on the highest difficulty you can)
#4 You should take the run speed enhancement from falconry asap or 2 levels of barbarian

    Items that help

    * the quiver of alacrity (30% base movement quiver)
    * a level 1 two handed sword or class weapon (if your a caster take Masters Touch) or use a weapon your proficient with
    * a level 1 vorpal range item
    * potions/scrolls/clicks: haste, invisibility, and blurr

    cannith crafting is your friend.
go to youtube and look up the starter quest, create a new char, do the quest.. nuke the char.. get your crafting up to about 80 and your good.. you can get most of the junk from the auction house
craft a con + hp item, a weapon (if needed) and your primary stat item ie CHA/STR/WIS

Have a purpose for your leveling plan out the "why" in your level expectations

    racial vs epic dynasty

racial just need to get to 20, you can use any class or combination of classes to get the job
done vs an epic tr will require a well built char that can make it to level 30

    class vs racial

you only need 10 levels for a class racial, vs any combination to complete a racial. Some classes level much faster than others i.e. a sorcerer or barbarian level much faster than a cleric.. Sometimes its just better to take 8 levels of fighter and chop your way through the quests..

use items for classes you hate

for example, I hated monk. so I did 14 fighter and 6 monk.. then used a +5 heart I won from daily dice.. and made it 11/9 followed by a class tr

    Some un-written advice

#1 In general killing every monster is not a requirement to finish the quest (if you don’t have to kill it, use your invisibility pot and run past it.. or round them up and mass kill)

#2 Never bother with optional monsters, disarming traps or looting chests, time buffing or waiting around for a hireling
(you could complete the quest and be running the next one in the time you waste getting 200xp to search and disarm a trap)

    #3 Avoid quests that require:
    spawning mobs (Devil Assault)
    protections (Madstone)
    Random Components (Invitation to Dinner)

#4 Never kill only 1 mob at a time

#5 Only run what ever difficulty you can kill regular monsters in less than one or two hits. (ie after 200 past lives everything dies in a single fiireball upto R3/4.. so I run everything on R4.

    * note .. Running all quests on Hard is actually the best XP/Min for newer players .. Quests on Elite iis the all around best as there are no reapers so most of them you can simply haste invis and go.. Reapers see invisible and will cause other mobs to agro.

#6 complete the bare minimum the quest as fast as possible, always avoid quests with puzzles, random components and
dont bother with optionals. get your xp and get out / on to the next one as fast as possible.

#7 Never "store" levels, if you hit level 12.. take your level right away. Its better to take advantage of new gear, weapons, spells and abilities well moving on the list.

#8 Trying to worry about running quest X at level Y is a total waste of time. Many people will disagree but the truth is.. by the time you finish wining about losing a little bit of base XP. You could be done the quest and on to the next.

#9 if possible, always run with the same people aka a guild or solo

    (#1 Spoiler)
Most people don’t realize this but ... if your in a group you can actually do more than one quest at a time (I cant really call it a bug considering they have had 15+ years to address the issue, so it's a feature)
    for example: Gianthold
1 person can open trial by fire on elite and start running, well the other person can open maze of madness also on elite. Once the person in trial by fire gets to the pit area they can open the gate at the start and finish out .. then go to maze and finish the quest .. and both of you come back.. the trial by fire quest was not completed and will remain open for 5 mins .. so step in run out the gate and chop up the boss..

in terms of xp/min its faster to finish 2 quests in 2 mins and eat the re-entry hit and move on

likewise, in madstone, never do one seer at a time, split up and do all 3 at once or watch your xp/min go doin the toialet waiting 10 miins for a seer

    (#2 Spoiler)
    Reaper XP
if you’re running every quest on R1 and expect to get anywhere STOP IT NOW!
why? because by the time you burn through 200 past lives on R1 .. you will literally be lucky to get the 6.5M for your 75 points/reaper wings.. That means your going to spend 200 more tr's to make up the difference.

the "better" way is to do each life on the hardest difficulty you can. if your new, do hard, if you have collected some stuff .. do elite.. if your a seasoned vet with decent stuff do R4+ What ever you do dont just get in the R1 rutt.

every time you get to level 30 make sure you do the 24+ quests as high as you can .. GH, Stormhorns, Necro4 etc ..
then do the 30+ as hard as possible.

why? level 30 quests are worth an average base of about 1500 reaper xp, every level 30 quests gets double reaper xp as a first time bonus.. that means doing into the mist on r1 will give you about 2500 reaper xp .. vs doing it on r1 at level 10 will net you about 200.. They both take the same amount of time but the epic way results in x10 the xp for the same amount of work.

It is better to spend an hr doing into the mists for 2500 reaper xp, then running it 10 times on r12 in the same time frame.

You may disagree, but in the long run if you average out the entire time spent doing every tr and 156 reaper points and everything else .. you will spend 1/3 of the total time by pushing your limits from the get go.. vs just aimlessly running everything on r1.

PS an entire run of 24+ on R10 should net you around 1.6M Reaper Xp per tr.

    The Levels
You may not like my list, or with to add/remove quests .. Fill your boots .. this is MY list and its based on levels and the shortest path between quests . (for example I only do redfang because its literally on the way to house P and its a free 5k to run to the end)

    Part 1 ..
    Level 1-4

If you have daily dice XP. eat them all.. your first objective is to get to level 4 ASAP .. (aka to spend your reaper points)

    FAQ:
#1 why no saltmarsh, fay ravenloft etc..
A: They are bad XP/Min and this document is all about 1-20 in 8hrs

#2 why complete quest chains under level
A: becasue coming back to them requires me to rememebr I skipped it and Im already there.

#3 why this list of quests?
A: becasue it also includes a lot of FTP content, so anyone can do it on any difficulty..

#4 why not do borderlands at 20?
A: Slayers are worth 2.2M xp with a slayer and xp pot they can be completed in a full group VERY quickly

#5 why not do all the slayers?
A: you could, enfact its probally better .. that way you save Necro4, GH and Stormhorn Reaper XP vs if you complete them during the leveling process you will not get first time bonus

#6 why did you make this?
A: idk, becasue I can! and someone asked

#7 what is your best 1-20 record
    A: (3.25Mxp) in 8hrs 24mins

#8 what is your best 1-30 record
    A: 9hrs 58mins

#9 what is your best 20-30 record
    A: 2hrs 37mins

#10 I don’t think you cover favor for TR grind
A: correct, there is no need for favor in a grind .. get the objective done and tr as fast as possible. (but you could easily adjust this guide to taste to fill in the blanks) make no mistake about it.. there is nothing "fun" about this level guide

I don’t think you cover favor for TR grind. Probably only enough to get 1 inventory bag and 1 bank bag. Going to have to go back and favor grind. Or could fit Tears, haverdasher, invaders or Attack on Stormreach chain and/or IQ/DD Isle in that list. Personally, I find sorting TR cache almost as time consuming as leveling. Well not really, but it’s a slog and boring. So anything to be ready after hitting heroic (or epic cap for iconics) makes it less painless.

    I have 2 questions

1: Doesn't getting traps in high xp quests increase xp per minute because of the sheer amount of % bonus that traps give, and while you could be into the next quest faster wouldn't the extra xp gained from traps net a higher xp per minute in some cases?

2: Why 3.25M xp? Where did you get the other 0.55M go that a 3rd+ life character needs for 1-20? I know you said in your assumptions 3.25M I just don't know how that number is possible for required xp.

A very interesting choice of quests...

Can you explain these quests in a TR speed leveling guide?

    Korthos Island quests
    Misery Peak
    Arachnophobia
    The Miller's Debt
    Redfang the Unruled
    Taming the Flames
    Stormcleave Outpost
    Full Threnal chain
    Chains of Flame
    Made to Order House

#4 You should take the run speed enhancement from falconry asap or 2 levels of barbarian (what does the 2nd level of barb give you?)

for example, I hated monk. so I did 14 barb and 6 monk.. (how did you manage that?)

We need someone to post a real updated leveling guide.

I don't know his reason for the others but he did state that he only does Redfang because it's on his way to house P and he can just run straight to the end for 5k xp

2nd level of barb unlocks sprint boost, note that he said take sprint boost from falconry OR 2 levels of barbarian not both
I suppose for f2p ppl who don't have falconry, since he also stated that the guide specifically includes a lot of f2p quests so that it's more useful to more people, also get the benefit of 10% passive movespeed from 1 barb and the frenzied sprint boost is 5% more than the falconry one

for example, I hated monk. so I did 14 barb and 6 monk.. (how did you manage that?)
do you mean how did he manage to make the split work or how did he manage to get a monk life with it? For the former, probably just ignore the monk levels and monk features and just build like a normal barb with only 14 levels of barb tho, for the latter he already explained how he got a monk life out of it

edit: nevermind I see the problem you mean here, alignment restrictions
is it possible for storebought alignment changes to get you into lawful once you take 14 so you can start taking monk at 15?

We need someone to post a real updated leveling guide.
depends on what you mean by "real leveling guide," he stated that this is meant as a guide for the fastest 1-20 or 1-30 or 20-30 with exactly zero regard whatsoever for literally anything other than xp/min at all, including things like having fun and getting favor rewards
I can't speak to whether it is the absolute fastest or not but it sounds pretty fast
if by "leveling guide" you mean you want something that will get you xp while: including as many fun quests as possible, allowing for fun IN quests, getting you favor rewards, and/or anything I may have missed, this isn't intended to be the place to look

    A few comments.

    a) If you have access to Sonic Blast (sorc, wiz, bard) then dont bother with a 2h weapon in the low levels. Sonic Blast kicks big time.

    b) If you are serious about leveling make sure you have a 2nd account with Shadow Crypt access so you can run that when ou want.

    c) Some quests are so amazing xp that running them on REHN is well worth it. Shadow Crypt and Fire Caves 1 come to mind but a few others could apply as well.

    d) Running quests you know well is often the key to being fast. Even more so that running specific quests.

    e) Dont forget to enjoy the game

Apart from that its interesting to see your list thanks for sharing.

There's a lot wrong with all of this, but we don't have time to get into that.

You skip a ton of VERY fast/good xp/min quests and run a lot of quests that aren't great for it...

    Sure!
Korthos Island quests - as I mentioned, skip all of the level 1-2-3 quests as you should have enough xp from daily xp but if not all of the Korthos levels can be completed super fast. (you could also just skip it and hit the l2's)
Arachnophobia & The Miller's Debt - I actually do all of the solo quests and the vale run quest every life.. they are fast but the most important thing is they have a chance to drop some REALLY nice level 1 weapons you can ideally add an icy burst kit to. In my case I have an old school holy 2d6 great sword with an icy burst kit .. it cuts everything in half upto about level 6 and has been WELL worth it for many years (hint winter games will start soon so find yourself a nice non crafted ml1 weapon)
Redfang the Unruled - pull 3 levers and run to the end and kill 1 bug for 5k.. and its on the way from STK to House D
Taming the Flames - (you will have dd, run left pull lever dd run right pull lever, dd, run middle kill mob.. dd run left kill mob.. quest done in a couple mins) most people hate this quest and spend a lot of time killing everything.. theres no point, just run it collect the xp and move on
Stormcleave Outpost - with sprint boost and dd you can do this quest and the optional in a few mins for 18ish k
Full Threnal chain - if you loook at my profile, i signed up during beta .. Threnal was the king of farms back in the day .. I know it inside out.. (after the gimpification to east 3 .. you literally die and come back in 15 mins.. that gives you time to Eat, #2 and come back to res/kill the boss and teleport out)
Chains of Flame - (actaully all of the sands) I know backwards and upsidedown hence I can complete the quests and raid very fast.. and is great xp.
Made to Order & BAM - are both straightline quests, just invis and run and the are side by side.

again, everyone has different quests they like.. this list has a lot of out of the box stuff in it and is literally "my" list b/c of the items I have and the way I like to run my stuff.

    All fair points..
A: yes! for sure.. I just picked the 2hs b/c I have a very nice old skool one that still chops everything in half upto around level 6
B: your right again, I was trying to not be to obious wne i mentioned all the FtP quests.. (hint) ps I hate all of necro 1/2/3 and some require long swims, puzzles and more than 1 person.. so in my case the best I will do is keep my eyes open for a lfm and red box it.. same with von/tempest
C: again you are correct, there are many quests with good xp I left off.. the main reason was 90% i dont like them, and 10% they are not on my clean route.
D: winner winner chicken dinner.. hence this is my list
E: you are totally right, as I said in my faq.. there is NOTHING fun about this "level" guide.. I wish to stress that point becasue imo the entire TR thing needs to be re-vamped .. DDO is not the only mmo to grind.. but it is the most excessive grind that i know of

    Most welcome,

I think your right, it may have been fighter or even something else tbh I dont recall, I finished all TR's years ago (and again 2 days after the shapeshifter came out).. My only point here is ..pick a dump class that you can level quickly.. get to 20 .. lesser +5 (or +20 is even better) tr and change the class out, then just do your class tr right away as there is no timer for lesser tr.

    my mistake there

    Tsutti
    I have 2 questions

1: Doesn't getting traps in high xp quests increase xp per minute because of the sheer amount of % bonus that traps give, and while you could be into the next quest faster wouldn't the extra xp gained from traps net a higher xp per minute in some cases?

2: Why 3.25M xp? Where did you get the other 0.55M go that a 3rd+ life character needs for 1-20? I know you said in your assumptions 3.25M I just don't know how that number is possible for required xp.
#1 - You are correct, traps do give a nice base xp bonus .. but 2 things... #1 I would never even stop for a trap #2 I rarely ever play trappers..

to further that IMO the best xp/min builds are:

20 barb - get a big sword and run like the wind.. (after sveral trs you should be able to umd invis scrolls)
2 barb 18 caster - run fast with some boom boom to finish it off.. there are a number of nice spells to help to
2 barb 18 bard - literally run invis and facinate everything
    2 barb, anything else
    anything else with falcon

#2 - again this is my mistake, You are correct it should have been the 3.8M i was using the old school number..

everyone’s level guide will be unique.. so your best bet is to look at other peoples "list" and come up with your own. In my case 99% of my leveling was done solo.. so this is "My" list.. I know every one of these quests backwards making them efficient for me to complete.. like wise its tailored to items I use to level .. for example I have some awesome weapons like a gnoll bane axe and an awesome smiter and a really awesome banisher .. so areas like Vale and Devils or RR are awesome for me, but they probally suck for other people.

so the real answer to answer your question is.. there is no such thing as a "real updated leveling guide" there is only whats good for you.

I started keeping track of this when I ran my racial lives - all GOO warlock (1 Arti for traps), so your miles may vary. In some quests the mobs just melt with warlock :-)

My top XP/Min in my spreadsheet are:

Quest Char Level Quest Level Reaper Level XP Opts Total XP Reaper Time Minutes as decimal XP / Minute RXP / Minute % of Quest Level
    A Sharn Welcome 16 15 2 28,554 28,554 642 0:06:30 6.50 4,393 98.8 8.9%
    Litany of the Dead 15 15 3 40,555 - 40,555 761 0:09:50 9.83 4,124 77.4 12.7%
    Scavenger Hunt 17 16 2 19,113 19,113 577 0:05:17 5.28 3,618 109.2 5.8%
    Trial by Fire 14 13 2 22,257 1,029 23,286 666 0:06:31 6.52 3,573 102.2 8.3%
    The Jungle of Khyber (VoN 3) 9 9 2 58,622 25,138 83,760 875 0:23:31 23.52 3,562 37.2 44.1%

Note that I run REHN on Litany, since farming is easy on those given turn in time/re-run. Litany gets me 91K in 37.75 minutes for 2410 xp/min.
One of my tops that you don't list is Shadow of a Doubt. Shadow gets me 51k in 18.66 for 2735 xp/min. In addition Shadow typically gets me ~10K in MM for about 3275 xp/min - I stop running Shadow of a Doubt as soon as I get the 8K bonus. (OOB is 5, Shadow 6).

I've come to the conclusion that the 30% trapper bonus is worth it on some, if not most quests. Given that the *vast* majority of your time leveling is actually *not* getting XP due to travel to quest time, getting the most XP per quest is, I believe, better.

In addition, I use the % of level as a key indicator for just that same reason. I'd rather run one quest that is 25% of level vs. 2 that are 12.5% even if the 25% is not quite as good xp/min. Total time vs quest time is key.

I also typically use the Devil Battlefield wilderness area for my end of 18-19. I typically do slayer to 750 for about 40k, explorer for 15k, rares for 35k (with bonuses), I typically see about 25-30K in MM. All told 1bout 120k in about 30-45 minutes.

And yes, I'm a Money Ball fan.

All on par or better xp/min.

And coincidentally have coin lord and house k favor that you will likely need for a TR.

Looking at it another way, there are some terrible quests on this list, that are not even average.

there are 164 quest 24+ not including raids that can be done on r10 .. an average quest is around 9.5k per first time. You do the math!

My top XP/Min in my spreadsheet are:

glad you posted this.. it really highlights the underlying point .. everyone has their own way of doing things.. some quests are easy for some and hard for others.. some are faster some are slower ..

the bottom line is there is no "One way" "right way" "wrong way" "best way" or any other way... there is only 1 way .. and that’s what ever works for you.

My list is just a decent list that works for me. It doesn’t rely on a lot of expensive packs (except sharn) .. and for the most part its a lot of cheep packs that are availaivle from the store or via guest pass.. It als works well at any skill level.. normal, reaper, elite.. doesnt matter if your geared or naked..

    Caarb
1/10 I hope this is a troll post because there are fundamental errors in the OP which make me doubt any of the claims.
If you have something specific to ask, need clarifications or have things you want to add, fill your boots.. If you don’t like it.. that’s fine too.. no skin off my nose ..

but before you do .. here is the truth ..

I have nothing left to do in this game .. I have 190+ reaper points, done every tr, past life and xp grind possible and usually sit at max favor for months on end.. I have ALL of the best gear possible and really have all but retired from the game all together... There is nothing left for me to do .. I don’t even tr unless there is a new class or race..

the point to the post is to pass on a little knowledge .. and perhaps help people avoid some of the pitfalls .. like a reaper xp rut.. or tr'ing forever..

if you want a take away from this post.. it should be .. the number of tr's pl's and xp grind in ddo is terrible.

I'm done with this post .. either enjoy it .. or not..

    Cheers

If you had posted this as "my favorite quests to do while leveling" that would have been one thing. But to post this as the leveling guide that stresses XP per minute seems like a disservice to the community.

You claim a record 1-20 of 8hrs 24mins. Is that playtime or overall time as well?

Several others have highlighted several questionable (from an xp per minute point of view) quests in your list.

You list chains of flames, yet you skip diplo and frame work.
You list taming the flames and stormcleave yet skip Tomb of the Shadow Guard and xorian and the house k quick quests.

Regardless of some of the contradictions there are some legit speed run tactics in here that a newbie might not think of.
