Post DDO 3D Models And Related Questions

So I recently wanted to start making my own animations with the Dragonborn model but everywhere I looked I could not find a place to get the 3D model from DDO. Is there a way I could get the model or am I just out of luck?

I dont know about where you can get it for free or how to extract it from the game files ( if its even allowed). However I'm a 3d generalist that works in blender/substance painter/unity, if you are an animator and is interested we can work out some fanmade stuff together.

    cheers.

A few years ago I did some research on this subject. Apparently, programs exist that intercept the data going to Direct X, allowing the user to extract meshes and textures. I am not a computer person and did not get much further than that. Also know that some Direct X Intercept programs might serve as gateways for hackers. Finally, the Terms of Service for DDO forbid modifying the game files. Be careful if you go down this road.

Ah ok. Yea I don’t really feel like dealing with all that, I did spend all of today looking through the files and there is not one mention of 3D models in the files which is kinda sad cause I was hoping that since it has been out for 15 years that there might be 3D models in the public files.

My understanding is that most games use a proprietary format for this kind of stuff. The artist creates the objects in programs for that sort of thing, then they are converted to the proprietary format which may include compression. The game developer has a program that converts things back and forth. That is the piece you are missing. However, when the game sends the data to DirectX, it needs to be in a format that program understands, thus the intercept program can grab it and translate it back into a format understandable by an art program.

Again, I am not a computer person and I am not trained in this sort of thing. I dabble in Blender and GIMP for fun.

It occurs to me that I have seen people translate objects from The Lord of the Rings Online. Maybe someone on that side of the house could help you. Again, be careful not to violate the Terms of Service.

Finally, you could write Cordovan and ask for help. Maybe one of the developers would be willing to help you with your project. The worse he can say is, "No."

Oh ok, thank you for letting me know, I’ll see what I can do.
