Quick clarification, but in case you were not aware, Dragon Breath is available at level 20 in the Draconic Incarnation tree. You can also turn it into Energy Burst (and double its damage).

You'll be OK, when the playerbase implodes the next game won't have this bad a rework.

Your comparison is bit unfair. If you want to compare no-ETR U51 character you should compare it with a character that hasn't unlocked pre-U51 EDs.

So if you start fresh lvl 20 with current ED you will have to gain 2mil xp to fully unlock one destiny. 6 mil to unlock full sphere, 24 mil to unlock all current ED's. For a smart players - they will go 3 full ETR's while unlocking the trees (24mil / ~8 mil = 3 ETR) but you can't consider them a "fresh lvl 20 w/o ETR's" anymore.

Truly fresh lvl 20 (without any ED unlocked) is in worse position pre-U51 than post-U51. But I must admit this changes pretty quick in favor of pre-U51 after you unlock tier 4 (if you chose a good opening destiny that works for your lvl 20+ build). So around lvl 22 you are in better shape pre-U51 than post-U51.

But considering overall character investment in my opinion U51 brings better options (same power for classic capstone archetypes, but soo much more powerful and diverse for non-standard builds) also for those who seek extra points from ETR'ing or simply want to stay at cap (lvl 30 and prolly 32-35 soon when cap rises).

Is there any way to make Dragon Breath more user friendly at level 20? My experience using it on the test server was that it was very difficult to use I had to practically stand on top of stuff to hit anything with it before the level 26 addons. What sort of hit box does it use? To me it seemed smaller than shout or greater shout.

Yes, actually! I've replaced the hitbox with a much more conventional one - it's still relatively narrow but should be a lot easier to hit things closer to you. You'll be able to try it out in the next preview on Lamannia.

Now you just have to replace U51 with anything that removes unneeded toggles (like every single ED and mantle), doesn't force people to do 48 ERs, and THEN we'll be on the right track.

Do you still have both abilities, both breath weapon AND energy burst when you do this?

This is a great guide for "finishing" a character you don't want to play. It doesn't help at all in playing a character that you do want to play.

It also requires making 6 characters and leveling 1 of them to 30 in order to avoid playing the character you want to play (or perhaps more accurately, to avoid gearing for and playing classes you don't want on the character you want to play) It is no help at all getting that first Wizard to 30 and gearing it out, but presumably you covered that part in a different "guide" that assumes you already have a level 30 character to PL and gear it.

My problem w/ Dragon Breath (and Shout) is when running backward to get mobs lined up, my head is turned sideways, so the breath/shout goes out to the side rather than at the mobs.

I've trained myself to stop running before firing it off, but I still forget sometimes.

Systems love stress. Hopefully players are fed up enough to fully meta crush the dev dreams after U51. Go meta folks, punishingly meta.

Just learn to use a different orifice, then you don't have to run backward

    1. Level gating ED's is dumb! Period. Do NOT do it.
    2. Read number 1 and make sure it happens.
    3. Forcing players to to do all 48 eTR's to get enough points to spend in the ED trees is dumb. Period. Do NOT do it.
    4. Read number 3 and fix it.

Seriously devs please do not allow this utter cluster f*** of an ED pass happen. Pretty please!

It was a done deal even before we saw it on test. If they actually cared they would have fixed the old stuff, instead of launching the U51-Nuke.
They have a habit of taking a working model, and "improving it" to the point they can sell us things we need to compensate for them breaking it.

We're still waiting for a paid monk-themed pack, so they can sell back the 2.5W damage they nerfed right out of Heroics, to "fix" the L29 wraps.
    (Monks know what we mean).

I'm still waiting for them to "fix" or "unfix" (depending on which way you look at it) Inquisitives. While they are at it they can remove the -20% from IPS too!
