I had like 1-2 years long break from ddo. I'm 99% sure before my break buddy bonus was bonus to total xp gained. I still remember when years ago someone from staff must have mistyped it and set buddy bonus to 100% per party member (instead of 10%) and for next hour i received crazy amounts of xp like 500k for ee cruci.
Now, it's obvious buddy bonus is no longer bonus to total xp. So what exactly it's?
Firstly i thought it's still bonus to total xp. It would make sense. In last few months i saw "ddo bonus days brings you 5% each party member" while in game xp report was saying "you're getting 10% each party member". I assumed (i know, very simple math doesnt support it) it's still bonus to total xp, but based on base xp. Thats why forum announcement says 5% and in xp report is 10% - i assumed this 10% bonus to base xp gives more or less 5% total xp despite the fact that it wasn't something i could see on quest completion.
But it's not. Today we see "10% each party member" on forum while in in game xp report it's "10% each party member" just like it was when it was announced to be 5% bonus. I did basic math based on xp in blockade buster - total xp after stepping in alone - something like 14 430 xp (if i remember correctly), total xp with friend- 14 800. Quick math, assuming 14430 is 100% - then 14800 is 2.5% total xp bonus (14 800 - 102.5%). So it's neither 5%/10% total xp bonus, nor bonus to base xp that is affected later by other bonuses (like daily playthrough, no deaths ets.). The closest result i managed to get is taking base xp from blockade buster (3700). 10% from 370 gives 370 and thats exactly the amount of xp i saw added to total xp after stepping in.
To summarise my question:
1. Why we see buddy bonus being advertised differently as 5% per each party member or 10% per each party member while in game it's always 10% (according to experience report)?
2. Am i correct buddy bonus formula was changed in last years and it's no longer bonus to total xp gained on completion like it used to be?
3. Am i correct that buddy bonus nowadays is just static bonus based on quest base xp added to xp gained on completion? Whats more, am i correct this bonus is not affected by any other bonuses that affect base xp (ransack/conquests/traps etc.) and it's more like static bonus based on quest base xp rather than something affected (like base xp) by various factors)?
4. If im correct buddy bonus years ago was a bonus to total xp - wouldn't it be better to go back to previous version? It's definitely more understandable. If my calculations are correct and (based on blockade buster example) buddy bonus now gives around 2.5% total xp gained on completion - why not call it 2.5% xp bonus?
5. Assuming i was correct and buddy bonus mechanic was changed - is it cause of being stingy? If years ago 10% xp in experience report meant 10k (assuming quest gave 100k), now quarter of it (2.5k), but still being described and advertised as 10%. It's a bit like selling soda in 1L bottles - you were selling 1L bottles full of sode, now you sell 1L size bottles with 250ml of sode and still call it "1L soda". Apology if my accusations here are a bit harsh and/or if it's fault of my flawed memory and/or im incorrect about the fact that buddy bonus mechanic was changed and/or there's something i misunderstood and thats what caused my confusion. But i really do want to understand how it works now.
I would really apprieciate some answers, ddo changed a bit during my break and how exactly buddy bonus works is really something that messes with my memory (comparing to numbers i see in game now and the ones i remember years ago).
