I do not seem to have the ability to change the name of my 5K character.
I guess I mistakenly assumed that we got a name change for each character that we transferred to a regular server each season.

If the name is a duplicate as one already on the server so you were given a -1 or -2 or whatever after your name then you get a free rename. Do a /changename new name.
