This is about the worst argument I've heard. Packs that are included in VIP aren't cumulatively paid for by the VIP payment, lol. It's like you're saying "the shipping on that product I bought from Amazon 2 years ago just keeps getting more and more expensive because of my Amazon Prime account! Whatever shall I do, I'll be broke soon!"
VIP grants temporary access to wide swaths of the game. In addition to other bonuses that some people find useful. When someone switches to premium, Vale isn't suddenly the cumulative price of that person's entire VIP time because they no longer have access to it.
Anyways, enjoy gaming![]()
LOL. That's not even a reading fail, that's a comprehension fail. VIPs pay zero DDO Points for packs, no matter what is listed in the store. Are you not aware of this? Maybe you should read https://www.ddo.com/en/become-vip
Duh, yes, of course. I'm glad you have become aware of this. That's the point (or least one of the major points) of VIP. You get access to all the packs without having to shell out all those extra DDO Points, let alone cash.
What goal posts?
And I didn't bring Premium players up, you did when you started quoting DDO Store prices, which are what Premium players have pay to get what is automatically included with VIP. If you were only talking about VIP, you mentioning DDO Store prices at all was irrelevant nonsense, since VIP by definition don't ever have to pay those. So you want to go back and remove your mention of DDO Store prices, and base your claim that this is some kind of good value, only for VIP, to have to pay twice on...what? Why is paying twice for what is less than existing adventure packs anything but a cash grab?
They might be trying to make it their new rip-off business model, but it hasn't been their business model in the past. Previously, DDO's business model has been that some people buy subscriptions, and some people buy DDO Points and then purchase content with those DDO Points a la carte.
So let me try to break it down to you very clearly:
It's a cash grab for VIPs because now they have to pay twice, compared with packs where VIPs only pay once. (Despite being less content than several existing packs.)
It's a cash grab for Premium because they can't actually use those DDO Points they've purchased in the past without a months-long wait, and have to pay cash again to get access to it in a timely manner. (Also at an excessive price compared to larger existing packs that don't the cash-grab-or-wait-6-months thing going on.)
Definitely. Looking forward to it.
No - cancelled VIPs and won't be buying anything for now, but not for the reasons others have listed here.
If/when the lvl cap increases it will kill my interest in playing this game so there's no point in spending money on it until we get more info about u51 and beyond.
For me this is primarily a social game and the idea of raising the lvl cap is almost universally despised amongst friends and guildies. If they leave, what's the point of continuing?
Lynnabel posted this in another thread when asked why permanent gold seals are BtC:
"Answer: As of Update 50, they won't be! Saltmarsh's Bullywug Rogue hirelings will be Bound to Account versus Bound to Character, and we're also retroactively changing all previous permanent Gold-Seal Hirelings from their current BTC status to BTA."
So that sweetens the deal for the dimensional hireling folder in the $100 pack which is also BTA. I hope the U50 change includes all the old hirelings like Owlbears, Panthers, and such.
Yes, I have bought every expansion at the highest tier and will continue that.
I'm looking forward to the rogue hireling (I like hirelings), and I enjoy the game and spend a lot of time playing it.
Ghallanda (38): Vilas, Alphon, Whelm, Thaylan, Tyclmi, Amgine, Talc, Dedlee, Payle, Darell, Talenta, Zhen, Thrane, Arrith, Durdyn, Magefyre, Necrophil, Tulgey, Borogove, Hasugi, Shawal, Hailestorm, Branthan, Lightningbug, Bettercall, Elecktric, Zardu, Zergworthy, BrotherOf, Missadventer, Bytemy, Demogeorgia, Tizen, Warrcore, Permadeaf, Fullmettle, etc...
Will be honest here.
If you have so many hirelings that you need a huge folder to hold them ...
you need to join a guild or something.
They last an hour each,
and I think you can use a most 4 at a time.
They don't expire (usually) until you leave the dungeon.

ah
so all them folks that claim they can run Reapers easy on solo
are dragging a full loads of gold seal hirelings 2 level higher then
them as bodyguards ... so that is why folks need folders to store them.
Maybe all they need to make Reapers more challenging since so many
think it is so easy to solo would be to prevent hirelings usage in Reaper
levels or limit it to 1 max.
Never happen, SSG probably makes a bunch of money selling them.
If you need more than 1 hireling, your basically in cheat mode.
It’s more about all the permanent hirelings clogging up bank space. 2 cats, 2 owlbears, 2 scarecrows, 2 shield guardians, 2 satyr. That’s 10 bank spots per character right there. Tomorrow, I’ll be adding 2 Bullywugs to the mix. And I have an Elleri laying around somewhere.
I usually run a self-sufficient toon on Elite and rarely use a hireling period, but they’re always there clogging up my inventory. I don’t want to burn them though because I am a pack rat.
And to reply to the actual thread, yes I will be purchasing the big pack tomorrow. No, I do not think the value is there, but whatever, a good bottle of scotch is close to $100.
I'm buying two and giving one to one of you grumps so you at least have something new to cry about.
I'm reluctantly buying the cheapest one. I'm assuming I'll be disappointed because the production of this game has been a shoddy haphazard mess for awhile now. It's mostly curiosity that has be buying the $20 thing. One aspect of the game that is consistently great is the art elements of the game. I'm almost certain everything else will be terrible, but the art will be worth the $20.
Sure $100 isn't a lot of money if you play the game all the time, but I refuse to spend that amount and not get decent value, especially considering everything I'd get doesn't actually exist and I won't even own it. Renting is fine. Renting things that don't exist is fine. I need a lot more than what is offered for $100 though.
I am having a tough time deciding as well. I am fairly interested in the Rogue hirelings, especially with the change to BtA on gold seals. However, as a paid subscriber since launch, the pricing model feels like a flick in the tip. I have purchased the highest tier on all expansions even after the prices increased and the value seemed to falter. Sharn and Feywild really left me feeling cold in that vein. I do enjoy the content and I appreciate the work done, I am not fond of feeling like if I don't lay a golden egg at least once a year in addition to the monthly fee, that subscribers don't matter.
TLDR: Not sure, sad Panda
Moderatly reformed forum lurker.
"Hi, Lurker"
Wont be buying it for any of tmy 3 accounts until i see EXACTLY what is included, items that were not in the test releases, no pre-order becuase they likely played safe on not having to refund on non delivery for cost, we still dont know how some items will be nerfed/upgradable due to new sss system, already paid for ED twice now not sure why I should pay a third time unless there is some sort of third time lucky bonus gift?
Yeah, one folder per character would be a lot more convenient, but U50 is still a big improvement. I have had these BtC hirelings taking up space on every character for many years now, at least I can destroy them now and get ~12 inventory/bank slots on almost every character. Even though I never use most of them aside from lever pulling when I'm solo, I didn't want to destroy them because I couldn't replace them or transfer them from another character. These things were "bonus items" we paid extra for, but felt more like an inventory penalty on every character. So I'm still happy about the U50 change.
