    Default 12Bard/8Fighter Swashbuckler Solo Build

    Just here to share my most recent build. The goal is to solo lv1-30 content in R1 with a hire. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Looks like the typical handaxe Swashbuckler / Kensei, but why fighter 8 instead of the usual rogue 2 / fighter 6? Swashbuckling restricts you to light armor, so having Evasion is helpful; plus trap skills seem a better use of extra skill points than Jump, Swim, etc. Alternatively, splash cleric or Favored Soul so you have Divine Might.

    Also you didn't use Harper Agent or Feydark Illusionist; is that because you don't have them?

    I would instead go with a charisma build.

    13 / 6 / 1
    bard fighter fvs

    4 divine might
    3 feydark cha to hit
    21 warchanter (single target freezes + 4th core temporary hp)
    13 swash
    33 kensei

    If you don't have Feydark, replace fighter with sorcerer and take T5 in EK

    Try to fit in Precision.

    • 3 Feydark for Familiar's Flourish


    Leaving 14+ APs to spread as one sees fit: e.g., more Feydark for Greater Color Spray SLA; or Stalwart Defender (6-13 APs) for defensive bonuses.

    Hi, Thank you for the feedback.
    I did consider rogue2/fighter6 for evasion but didn't think my Dex is high enough to take full advantage of it. Do you think it's still worth it?
    Also considered Harper Agent (for trapping) and Feydark Illusionist, but if I go for STR focused, then I get 12 enhancement points to focus on other trees. Secondly, I think Feydark Illusionists require Arcane Training which I don't have.

    You can get it with 4 ap in spell singer

    Thanks for the suggestions and thoughtfully include the version without Feydark.
    I have been wondering why people do 3 Feydark for CHA to hit, but don't go for CHA to damage? doesn't that mean I also need to work on STR to get the damage up?

    Okay, just saw Smooth Flourish for CHA to damage

    I would turn that question around and ask: what are you gaining from being STR-based? You didn't add tactics feats like Stunning Blow or Improved Trip. You don't take Strong Defense from Stalwart Defender nor the active shield attacks from Vanguard. Apart from self-buffing with Skaldic Rage and Rage spell (later Primal Scream), you don't seem to benefit much from STR and you gave up any Battle Trance to get there.

    Whereas if you went CHA-based, you'd have higher DCs for bard spells and Warchanter freezes; higher Insight bonus from Divine Might; higher Will saves if you took Force of Personality feat. Or even DEX-based: higher AC & Reflex saves; several bucklers natively support DEX to-hit and damage (including Moonguard which you listed) so higher DPS from shield-bashing. EDIT: oh and the forthcoming Horizon Walker tree will add a DEX-based Battle Trance, though it's more AP-expensive than Know the Angles or Divine Might.

    As you can see from the choices I've made while doing this build, I'm still pretty new at this. Thank you so much for explaining in detail. They are really helpful!
    At first, I thought to go with STR so I don't have to spend enhancement points to change attack/damage stat, and I that STR would give me high attack/damage while I stack my damages from points saved from the enhancement tree.
    Battle Trance is a new term for me. Just looked it up on DDOwiki and thanks again for explaining!

    • 11 Kensei for Strike with No Thought
    • 13 Swashbuckler for Skirmisher + Smooth Flourishes
    • 4 Warpriest/Soul for Divine Might
    • 3 Feydark for Familiar's Flourish


    Leaving 14+ APs to spread as one sees fit: e.g., more Feydark for Greater Color Spray SLA; or Stalwart Defender (6-13 APs) for defensive bonuses.
    I suggested 33 AP Kensei for the 40 melee power and 2 special attacks in tier 5. I don't like the AoE freezes too much. I mean the ability is good, but the cooldown is too high and the AP cost is brutal.
