    Default Considerable Disconnects

I have been busy for the past week. I came on to DDO today (May 29th, 2020) to run a few things. My client is disconnecting quite frequently; instead of the usual lagginess that happens to us all I just full stop -> yellow connection indicator -> red connection -> eventual message that I have been disconnected. It is not happening to anyone else in my group. I am not experiencing any other signs of bad connection (it is only DDO dropping). It ranges from about an hour at best, to occurring the very moment I attempt to log back in, but seems to be roughly once every 5-10 minutes.

I think I experienced a lag-spike one time so far today. Apart from that it is all full-stop disconnection.
I tried restarting modem. I tried restarting PC. I tried fully reinstalling DDO. Nothing appears to have helped.

sounds like Norton firewall or some other anti virus all in one thing thats terminating the connection.

    Default an interesting thought

I do appreciate the input, but what could cause it to suddenly terminate rather than simply not allowing access from the beginning? Seems odd that it would suddenly decide that DDO is not allowed.
I do not have Norton or any such bloatware installed, thank you.

Is something else running on the network, either another device in the house, or another program on the computer, that is sucking up all the available bandwidth? Maybe someone's torrenting, and someones watching 4K video, and when they do both, boom goes the ddo connection?

    Default Bottlenecking is unlikely

Unfortunately this problem is not so simple. There are no others on the network, I am not torrenting or watching 4k video. Whether I shut everything else off (using bandwidth) or leave it on makes no difference. The game just suddenly stops receiving data.

Other applications are experiencing normal connections. Bottlenecking invariably would cause used applications to suffer. I am lacking the symptoms of bottlenecking.
In your example I believe the torrent speeds would cap and modulate as applications fight for bandwidth, the video would experience "buffering."
DDO would give yellow connect, produce stutter lag and might eventually drop the connection. In my case the connection is absolutely fine then connection is severed (Hard-stop) then the yellow connect pops up, turns to red, client eventually gives the lost connection error. Connection display shows that it is still sending but receiving nothing.

At this point I have tried another PC, the issue is identical. My modem is not putting out any errors. I will be trying with a Windows 7(as opposed to Windows 10) install but presume no change. Afterward, the only thing left to test on my end will be to go to a public WiFi to verify whether it has anything at all to do with my ISP.

    Having exactly the same issue.
    on both DDO and LOTRO.
All other MMOS work just fine.
Doesn't matter if I'm hardwired directly to the modem or on WIFI tested both PC and Laptop.
Even tried to port forward the correct ports.
    Disabled windows firewall.
No other network issues with any other games.
speediest are fine no bandwidth issues.

did a tracert to www.ddo.com and it bombs out after ip address 4.31.43.210.
This is owned by Level 3

    Update:
Tested with VPN by setting location in VPN to Canada and no disconnects or drops.
So not my Hardware not my network.
This is a problem on a midteir network operated by Level 3.
Any ideas how to get this repaired?

It appears that even our internet connections must avoid New Jersey.

    Found a solution for me.

Step 1: Had to log into my Comcast Gateway and setup a port trigger. (Which I had done before and didn't work but missing second step)
Setup trigger on ports 9000-9058 and 2900-2958.

Step 2: Had to go to Documents -> Dungeons and Dragons Online. Open UserPreferences.ini in a text editor. Under the [NET] section set UserSpcifiedPort=9000. (This was what I was missing it was set to 0 which is the default setting)

Note: if you have multiple computers on the same network that use DDO at the same time on your addtional computers you will need to set UserSpcifiedPort to a different number on each computer.
    For instance
    Computer 2 UserSpcifiedPort=9001
    Computer 3 UserSpcifiedPort=9002
    etc..

Haven't dropped connection yet since making these changes.
    Hope this helps.

    EDIT:
Never mind still getting disconnected it just worked a little longer.

    Default hax

It's a hacker spoofing your ip and sending an illegal number of inquiries. It's political. The server drops you. hax. They can do it with impunity. System is left open for it.

called a dos attack. denial of service.

    it's political

    Default Level 3

Level 3 doesn't exist any longer unless it's a different Level 3 than the other one. They are Lumen, Quantum Fiber or CenturyLink depending on where you hit their network. New Jersey is probably Lumen. Good Luck

    Default They're Back :)

Fortunately I only had it happen a couple times during all of HCL5 and very rarely over the past few months. Tonight, they came back! White Plume Mountain took 30 minutes and Spies in the House took a fantastic 20 minutes to complete due to being disconnected about 14 times between the two quests. Same as before, no lag, full stop disconnect, can relog immediately.

Similar issue here. Started a little over a month ago. Not traffic related- I've had it when the house is empty and I've not had it when the family is home watching TV and messing with phones. Different days of the week and different times of day, so I don't think my provider is somehow bottlenecking either. I've had bad nights during guild run- interesting because there'd be absolutely no degradation in Teamspeak (which I only use for the guild run, so that's not the common thread) when I get tossed. The only thing different from what you describe is that I've gotten pretty good at killing the client (alt-F4) as soon as it freezes and I get the yellow warning (which always proceeds to red and then the disconnect error box), and I've actually managed to fail on the relog because the server still has me logged in (even though it DC'd and I quit the client). That means it's not the game itself but something unusual about the internet pathways, right?

I have almost the same issues. game freezes, only started in late may or so. usually within 20 minutes of playing
