The same size. You tell them apart by the color and the different weight of each.

Different size, different weights, different minting.
Some are marked by teeth, others are shaved, some are worn smooth, others fresh-struck.
Some are black with blood, curses and yesterdays coffee.
But when they go into the magic inventory they are light as a breeze and the size of a pixel.

Treasure comes from too many cultures in too many centuries for standardized currency like drachmas or dollars or doges. "Gold Piece" and "Copper Piece" must be standardized units of weight, to deal with non-standard coins. One silver coin might, for example, might weigh 43 "silver pieces" and another weigh a half.

I suspect that deep magic can transfer coins instantly to Kundarak banks in exchange for notes of deposit. This is why coins have no encumbrance, but the practice is so commonplace that no one ever mentions it.

I have no idea. I pour them into this portable hole money-pouch thing and when I want to buy something I pour a bunch out and I don't even have to count it, somehow the portable hole does the proper currency exchange for me. Its the best enchanted item ever.

the real question is - do restless resources or rich reenforcements have the better clinking sound?

Default According to the D&D Player's Handbook...

If you look at the player's handbook the come in different shapes. For example, copper comes in a square shape, silver comes in a triangular shape, gold comes in a warped square shape, and platinum comes on a square shape.
Also, copper and silver coins have holes in them, and gold and platinum don't.
(I would post a picture but not quite sure how to and don't want to spend time on it even if I did ).
    Sincerely, Zorrbeania

It depends if the coin lords have been at them or not.

Gold coins get smaller over time since people shave them.

They are all the same size, microscopic. That is how you can carry millions of them and not get burdened.

They are all the same size, so says a certain halfling.

Different sizes, that's why you need a stalwart dwarf to carry them all around.

Fun fact: they're all actually the same coins. There's a goblin in every chest furiously painting coins as you approach to make sure you get the correct denomination for your level.

Same because otherwise they'd be worth different values.

None of the coins has any size, they're much like cryptocurrency, because almost no matter how small, 4 million coins would be very unpractical to lug around.

They're different sizes so I can pay for things while I'm blind - especially for that Remove Blindness potion I forgot to buy!
