A key.
A key.
One that pretends to be intangible things, such as thoughts or ideas.
A +8 Supreme Tome that dropped out of a breakable.
Although judging by the death postings on HC, the mimics there are pretty danged effective!
"Ignorance killed the cat, sir; curiosity was framed."Tripoint, C.J. Cherryh
A mimic disguised as a mysterious quori docent laying around the bottom of a ramp in a planar prison quest.
“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.”
One that impersonates Jeets on the shore of Korthos, or any barrel on the way up to help Celimas.

A toilet, catch us with our pants down. Altho if the mimic falls asleep, it will deeply regret the consequences.
A Mimic that looks like a Flumph.
Everyone would be like, "OMG! A Flumph in DDO! Finally! The Devs have listened to the overwhelming outcry surrounding the tragic lack of Flumphs in DDO, and now we have Flumphs in DDO! Lets go and interact with the Flumph, it will be the best thing to ever happen in DDO!!! Oh wait! What's going on!!! Noooooooooo! It was a Mimic all along!!! Oh the hubris of we players, thinking the Devs would grace us with an actual Flumph! Oh the bitter-sweet ruse! But, no... Now we are dead, our excitement and unbridled joy at seeing a Flumph in DDO led to our tragic demise!"
True story.
A Mimic that spawns a chest when it is killed because it is a champion but then that chest ends up also being a mimic and it spawns a chest because it is also a mimic and this goes on for eternity because all mimics are champions that drop chests and all chests are additional mimics whom are also champions who drop mimic chests........... oh and this mimic only lives on the hardcore servers and has a higher percentage chance to appear the lower the health of those within range of it.

What would be the most effective Mimic in DDO?
The most effective mimic in DDO would be a henchman...
Imagine, they follow you competently through the dungeon, healing you or defending you just enough while there is opposition, then down to your last few hp, they quaff a potion of healing, turn their back on you and bam! Mimic!
Or, perhaps even worse...
That trap panel you think you've located? Trap tools in, tinker around- wait... this catch seems... squishy?
Acid dripping jaws close on your hands.
And even more terrifying...
You step into the Banque Du Kundarak- empty halls per usual- step up to the teller and politely ask to see your storage.
The teller booth folds in on itself, collapsing on top of you with an irritating, high-pitched and gleeful whoop.

What a read!
