Shards of Power: It's Time

I don't know if the Devs have noticed, but heroic Shroud just doesn't seem to get run that much anymore.

That's fine.

However, as a result, I think it's pretty clearly time to make the Shards/Great/Supreme of Power Bound to Account on Acquire instead of bound to Character.

There's still some green steel stuff to be made (and how that needs to be updated is another thread). And anyone with alts knows that you end up with a ton of shards on one character that doesn't need them while another alt is starving for them.

Let us toss them in the Stone of Change and get BtA versions.

Pains me to that it doesn't get run as I very much prefer the heroic shroud to legendary, but I have to agree. There are ways to get shards elsewhere but the drop rate stinks.

While I agree, I do want to point out that until that change happens, as far as I know, Heroic Shroud Elite is easily soloable on a level 30. I haven't actually tried it yet, I'm not sure how the puzzle rooms would work for someone without lock picking skills, for example. But "everybody" says you can do it, so, your mileage may vary.

EDIT: or are those rooms only locked if someone is in them? I don't recall, and as I said, I haven't actually tried it. I think it might be the case that the rooms are only locked if someone is in them

Shoot the crystals iirc (been a long while since I've solo'd it). You lose access to a couple of chests under the water, but can still complete.

Thanks, yes, I knew I must be forgetting a mechanic, that was it.

I'm not saying running it on level 30s for shards is an ideal solution for sure, but it is *a* solution, until a better one comes along. And the stuff that is still relevant, like displacement clickies, are definitely still relevant to a level 30 (and with so much of the game being reincarnation of one sort or another, items are still relevant back at min level too).

I don't think that Shroud is easily soloed. I tried this myself in the last month or so, and while Parts 1 and 2 weren't bad, I failed on Part 3. I was working on a puzzle and died when the wall came right through the puzzle room.

I haven't done Shroud in years, this caught me by surprise because I thought the wall only went through the corridors and the rooms were safe. But nope, covered the entire space in the room and no way to dodge it. Maybe it was always like this and I never noticed, or maybe they changed it to enforce the time limit, but either way you'd have to be quick to finish Part 3 solo. I hadn't even finished all of the puzzles, let alone started running the water to them.

All of the doors are locked, but you can break the crystals to open them. And actually, I suppose you could do this to finish the level more quickly, since you can water the fountains without solving the puzzle. Hmm, maybe it is soloable if you just sacrifice some of the chests.

I'm all for them being BtA as less junk stuck in my bank the better. But I'd equally just want Shroud flagging updated to allow one to be able to keep it flagged on future lives after an initial flagging. I'd pug it every life if I didn't have to jump thru long hoops(Coal... ugh, I can only handle that run every few reincarnations if that). I'd say the 4x runs for Lit also gets a bit old too/grindy for doing that on level.

No Luck! Can't run shroud with no people running it.

Need displacement clickies and can't get them.

I usually farm part 1 of the shroud for shards of power.

For the greater shards, I farm ToD. You can pull shards of great power from the chest after part 2. The shadows fight.

Both of those are easy on a level 30 character. I can make 1 to 3 displacement clickies a week.

Thunderholme you only need the raid item to make tier 3 items. Why not remove the two lowest shards in shroud and only require a supreme shard to make a tier 3 item. Seems like that would be an easyish change

Given heroic shroud is rarely run it would be easier to accumulate the materials needed to make tier 1 or tier 2 items.

An even better idea is if the devs would add the tier 1 and tier 2 shards to the skelly vendor at the end of part 3. It would still require the raid to be run to make items, but remove the artificial bottle neck that was originally needed when shroud was end game and level cap was 16.

A few notes: This won't help everyone, it's legality of use is a bit dubious (I test for bugs and exploits all the time, so... yeah. It could get changed, stopped, this post edited/deleted, etc, but I hope not as no one likes being screwed by RNG and it's not a bug/exploit for free, so I hope SSG sees fit to leave this post be), you still need to farm for them (but now not just on the character that needs them), you'll need the Shared Bank, and it'll only be useful for the Tier 1 shard (Shard of Power). It won't help with Shard of Great Power or Supreme Power.

Process:
Farm for your Shard of Power (from Shroud 1) as normal. If you happen to get it drop for the character you need. Grats.
If on the other hand you've ransacked the chest, don't despair. Get another toon in and continue farming with them for the Shard of Power.
Once you have one, head to the Cannith Crafting station and prep it by Disjuncting it. This will allow you to Cannith Craft on the Shard of Power Trinket and change its status from BTC to BTA.
Place this now BTA Shard of Power Trinket into the Shared Bank so the character you need it on can pick it up.
Craft Green Steel attributes onto the Shard of Power Trinket as your normally would do and use.
If you decide you don't need it afterwards for Green Steel Crafting, you can continue using it for normal Cannith Crafting. There's no wastage here.

Hope this will be able to help some players who are stuck farming. It really does suck when you're at the mercy of RNG.

And I hope the Devs sees fit to make them easier to obtain if they consider this an exploit/bug/Not WAI and needs to be altered so it doesn't work like this. Or add the Great and Supreme versions to Cannith Disjuncting to allow farming on more than just the toon you need. It's bad enough that you need RNG for it to drop, it's even worse when you need to do it on the specific character too.

That's a great tip for someone right now, but for the future, in my opinion the shards and great shards should be added to the skelly vendor at the end of part 3. Most all of the shroud items are obsolete and surpassed by BTA named items from newer quests and no other raid has the sheer amount of grind required to get a finished item or two. If i was a newer player I wouldn't even bother since its easier to obtain nonraid items that are more powerful, estar has haste pots that last as long or longer then the clickers, and it's pretty easy to umd displace scrolls you can buy at vendors for many toons.
