Default Lag has been horrible this season

My first character died last week in a quest in the Fey. Entered a room with mobs and then could not move. It was between 1 and 2 minutes before I could move. I was periodically hitting my heals and LOH, even though I was not moving . I should have probably alt-F4’d the game, but I didn’t. When I could move there was a torrent of red numbers and I died. That was last week.

Supposedly some work was done to fix the HCL server. But this afternoon and into the evening, I could not log out of any character. This is not new, but it feels worse than ever. If I quit the game, using the menu. I got hung up “cleaning up old connection”. I have not seen this before, that I remember, after actually quitting the game, as opposed to alt-F4 or similar. I had to log in on my server, log in a character, the quit, the relaunch HCL...worked most of the time. I don’t think it should take 5-10 minutes to change characters.

I experienced lag moving spells, moving items, with the bank closing and reopening multiple times...performance seems as bad as it has been.

What is a pain when it happens on a regular server can be death on HCL. I love the tension that HCL brings, but now I am afraid to solo, not because of mobs or mimics, but because of lag. I worry about rubber banding into a trap, into lava or off of a height, and/or freezing by mobs again. That should, not in my opinion, be part of the gameplay, but it is.

I am not quitting, I have been playing since launch, but it sad and frustrating that what is a fun part of the DDO experience is significantly tarnished, IMO, form game performance.

Done venting...be safe and have fun

This season Death Smile has seen some of its best players die because of lag - I mean these are extremely good DDO players dead to lag freezes at lvl 30 after investing time and money.

An entire raid in Master Artificer of favor farming players (all over 4500 favor which represents a LOT of time) died when the game literally completely froze for 20 seconds and they were standing on an electrified floor.

My suggestion to SSG, because lag was terrible on the live servers going into HCL 4, was to have an extra life token as part of the Daelkyr story, the Lord of Eyes after all is crazy - a token @ lvl 16 - so there would be a buffer against the ever-present lag. It would not making HCL easier - it would be SSG stepping up and accepting the reality of their game and providing players with a real display of commitment to them. We have your back - here is a token to deal with our servers and our systems lagging.

To me, and I am in real life capable of investing in many things, it seems a good investment - to invest in the people who love your product, for it would signal to those who spend their precious time and money, that they are valued. And that kind of valued relationship pays off in the long term. Instead we get the short term money grab.

My suggestion was met with utter silence.

I personally know over 20 people who have died and are not returning to HCL due to it being a waste of time and money.

Had SSG fully admitted to the reality of the environment of their game beyond the 'doublestrikes in raids cause lag' story, perhaps the population of players would be less irate when the lag and game freezes occur. Lag wipes raids on live too, it doesn't just kill players on HCL.

by gamers, for gamers - gamers take care of their own and provide a product to encourage fun not frustration.

I don't think they can fix the lag issues. The coding for the backbone of the game sounds like it is unable to handle any significant amount of stress . They need to rebuild the code from the ground up, unfortunately this game isn't worth that kind of investment.

    What happened?
You nerfed my monks, throwers, dailies and alchemists.
I hardly play anymore, found a better hobby.
    Thank You!
