Default I'm thinking about feeding all of my "maybe someday" gear to the hungry dragon

I have 3 bank characters full to the brim with items I've never used and may never use. Between borderlands, slavers, RL, and Sharn the gear sets are a lot more streamlined, and then epics I've just been using borderlands up until my final loot set. I have tons of loot from raiders boxes or unique items that would be super hard to get again... except they aren't all that useful now. I have glamored the things I want and now I'm just considering having one overflow bank per character for Heroic vs Epics, and that's it.

Have any of you done something like this before? I've been stressing about this for a while. I tend to save a copy of each unique thing I get and then eat the rest. I don't want to potentially run a build where I could have had gear ready for me instead of farming for it but I'm losing my mind a bit.

I did this last year. Don't regret it at all. In the olden days when alts were worth playing I wouldn't have done this but other than my main I play nobody on the main account at this point and all the BTA stuff that is not in her wheelhouse is just taking up inventory space.

I will likely pass the sentient stone around the account at some point when I have the energy and strip all the BTC and BTA stuff that those characters are wearing also. They're just glorified bank toons at this point and nothing that happens moving forward is going to change that.

It's all great until you decide on some new tetris setup and the piece you need to make it work is one you fed... I just wish we had better loot management across alts because it's nightmare right now. In LOTRO (where add-ons are supported), I have one installed that lets me see what's on all my toons & their banks from my main; I'd kill for this kind of function in DDO. Until then, it's probably better for my sanity to re-farm the occasional item then hording them and trying to keep them organized.

With good organization, mules really aren't so bad. Make some for level ranges, or for equipment type (melee, ranged, arcane, divine, whatever) or however you feel it is best done.

But yes, it's also good to clear out clutter. "I might use this on some weird build someday" is only a keeper if the item can't be gotten anymore (or at least not gotten easily).

Personally I'm hesitant to toss out anything from a raid - you really just never know when the devs might decide to normalize old items and make them viable again. But I've had several cleaning sessions to pare down on rando stuff I picked up where I thought "Maybe someday", and someday never ends up happening, especially at the glacial rate that I go through past lives.

I was just recently able to delete an entire bank character after clearing all the gunk out. Felt good.

I mucked out all my bank mules about a year back, and it's incredibly freeing.

and 6 months later, they are full again. I have 10 bank toons, 240 guild storage slots, and 90 shared slots, and almost all of them are full. I cleaned them out just a few months ago, and they are full again...

Thus one of the worst storage solutions possible creating extra characters for bank slots.

I suggest making or converting a "ravenloft" mule and a "sharn" mule and place all heroic/epic items there. For individual raid items on your character, you can safely toss all Reaver's Fate stuff. Other stuff, it's hard, I hear you. Like, what if they change the fear mechanic and Nightmare becomes awesome again? Any item with a unique attribute I tend to hold on to. However, it is incredibly freeing to rid your character of old items. I've taken a middle of the road approach.

Same here....it is not wise to hoard, but when they are extremely rare items I would hold on to them. I would probably just buy extra storage in the bank and let it wait. You never know when an expansion might arise that some new npc's and maybe other alts you might invest in could utilize those bits of oddity.

I am one of those players that unfortunately hoard items due to always thinking my other alts be it current or future ones might need or could utilize them.

It's a love and hate system where I over burden and flood myself with too much inventory management and end up spending way too much wasted time where it could be better allotted to gaming.

You don't have to anymore, https://myddo.vaultofkundarak.com is working on this functionality for few months already. You may want to ping Morrikan (via discord) for this.

i'll keep on saying please give us players a solution, any solution, keep on suggesting an account-wide bank that is not a bank and has potentially unlimited storage space. like this one, that will also bring some money to ssg. it would also work as cometic wardrobe and cosmetic preview and other stuff.

Some kind of cosmetic wardrobe would be amazing. There's a lot of really good looking gear out there but it doesn't stop me from using my Cyan Cannith Outfit pretty much everywhere. If I had an easier time organizing my cosmetics I'd switch outfits a lot more depending on my race and mood.

exactly. how much money they lost in 15 years and keep on losing? same for mounts. they introduced them as something to farm. wrong. they are cosmetics to buy and event prizes to hype the players even more about events.

it's all part of a circle: game is alt unfriendly \ inventory-bank-tr cache is a mess \ cosmetic system doesn't exist. they are all linked and they keep on losing money everyday cause of this.

    Dooo eeeet

Remember you're not choosing between having the item or not, unless it's a legacy item you can't get anymore. You're choosing between having to re-farm the item should you need it, or having the mule space for something else. It's purely a question of which convenience is more convenient for you.

Then weight that calculation by the chance you'll actually use an item in the future. Saving an awesome great club in case great clubs are ever made useful is probably low percentage.

Lastly, for anything not endgame, weigh how much difference having it would make over just pushing through with the next best available gear option. Some items are real game changers, some are just incremental over something else you could use to get to the next gear threshold, and it's probably not worth it just to save a few minutes between level X and Y.

Usually the math now says just feed it. Fey and Sharn gear really narrows the list of gear that's clearly useful.

I feel your pain. I have almost 40 toons. I play 3 of them. At least I did before I took a break due to lag. Hopefully it's fixed somewhat soon.

There's an update coming up soon that is intended to significantly help that, we'll see what happens.

UPDATE: I did it. I ended up deleting four toons.

Relief palpable. TR cache is empty and gonna stay that way.
