Mimic questions

We've also seen the occasional message about being too high level to spawn a mimic, and maybe that happened but we didn't catch the message.

I've never seen this and don't know how you can get it unless it is in a wilderness area where there is no cap on the level of toons in the area.

This morning my son and I were running some korthos elite.

I was level 3 he was level 2. He opened chest and we got a mimic on his looting. I looted after we killed it
A little bit later running harbor quests he at level 3, me at 4, he opened the chest and no mimic, i looted chest and it became a mimic. Twice now I have seen a mimic spawn on second or third person looting chest. Strimtom also said on his stream yesterday that not only had he seen 2nd+ looter spawn a mimic but he has seen a mimic spawn out of the pile of gold left behind by a dead mimic. I have not seen this but I am watching for it.

We have seen the “too high level for mimic” but we were all low level doing a run in Korthos. Can’t remember what character levels we had

Well, that blows the single roll for the chest theory out of the water. It looks like the roll might be each loot.
Edit: Though it is still possible depending on how many chests have been looted since the last spawn for each of you.

I got this running one of the Sharn Syndicate chain (can't remember which one sorry). I was max level for the quest. Only got the message once.

Ok got the you are too high level to get a mimic alert again. This time it was in the quest Immortality Lessons on heroic normal. We were all level 5-6. It was just one of the chests in the parts where you are seeking words, not the end chest. We don’t think we hit a mimic that whole quest

That seems pretty strange to me, we were definitely appropriate level
