    Default Melee PaleMaster, Help Needed

    Hi,

Let's address the elephant in the room- PM melee is far from ideal or best dps, probably even (way) below avg. dps.
Okay. So it's a flavor build.

Now, the idea revolves around me enjoying neg leveling creeps and melee, and the fact that PM has neg-levels built into its melee. The tricky thing is how to make it suck as little as possible while still doing what it was meant to (melee+neg)

I was thinking twf for more procs, and probably getting scimitars from the eveningstar challanges with a life-steal on them for even more negs.
Obviously ideally you'd want the most wiz levels for best healing while undead, but for reasonable timing on feats through heroics it would seem 6-7 levels of a full BaB class would be required. fighter's kensai works best with 8, paladin offers very little, ranger takes a ton of APs and 12 levels for imp.crit enhancements, so that leaves barbarians.
however as barbs' 7th level adds nothing, a 6 barb +1 fighter level would be better, making it a 13 wiz / 6 barb / 1 fighter, going into Occult Slayer for the +1\+1 crit enhancements.
    feats would be imp.twf @ level 6, imp. crit @ 9, greater twf @ 15.

That's as far as I've gotten, any suggetions?

If you are going for barb then maybe go THF and use flachions? T5 FB for X2 multi sounds good. As you said this is a flavor build not top dps but you could neg level multiple targets since its easy to get 200+ ST with FB

You don't have to splash for BAB, just put your other AP into Eldritch Knight for improved melee & full BAB; it pairs great with Palemaster for the self-heals. The feats will come a bit later in life, but you'll still have tons of feats from all the wizard bonus feats to free up everything else for melee stuff.

My guildy ran palemaster with eldritch knight tier 5/capstone solo on his free-to-play account and took it to 30 and was really happy with it as a solo build. He was very happy with it but ran pure 20 wizard with no splashes all the way to 30. He uses Tail of Suulomades at 30 and is comfortable running the first-lifer in a mid skull group @30 and soloing anything on R1 with the gear - could possibly go higher.

What it is not - not optimal for super high reapers, it's not meant to be a max dps build for raiding but will do fine in typical pug LH/R1 raids.

What it is - great self-healing, solid dps, great defenses (displacement, 20% ghostly, medium armor, radiant forcefield, arcane barrier), capable of soloing low skull reapers on a first-lifer with no tomes, store purchases, etc.

The spellsword dice are based on spellpower so you will need to max that out. He ran THF, but it would work fine as SHF (better boss dps). Pale Inquisitve is also a possibility but he isn't sure if the neg proc works with ranged.

If all you want is to be a self healing melee, check out The Blackguard build - https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...The-Blackguard

Quite a bit depends on having more wizard levels (mainly spellsword dice, aura ticks), with generally more being better.

I'd recommend swf or 2hf, 2wf isn't really there unless you're pushing vistani/tempest - ek+pm is already pretty expensive, so there isn't much wiggle room.

Seems like there's a consesus around THF over TWF, falchions over scimitars, and full wiz over splash.

Thank you guys for that feedback, and thanks for that Blackguard link, it is a very nice write up.

I saw you were looking for PM builds and figured I would toss this in the ring. It's a bit dated but this guy absolutely owned EE's with his builds. I originally found this player via his YouTube vids (no longer up but I'll ask if he can either repost or allow me to DL them from somewhere so I can repost sans music). Additionally, he lists other builds in the thread.

I played a PM monk my first life based off his build. I had a fantastic time playing it but the gearing for said build is tedious. The new gear that is available now, while really good, doesn't complement the PM build like what he lists for gear. I spent the better part of a year obtaining all of the gear he lists except for the alchemical handwraps, for which I was only able to obtain the base. Add in the fact that you can now get GS handwraps, is all the better. If you have the mats for them, make a pair of Lit II and a pair of ConOp, and the same can be said of the LGS but only Lit II or something else that will bypass DR if electric is not able to. You could also go for the Legendary Alchemical Handwraps as well, but I'm just returning after being away for 5 years.

The biggest difference in the gear he has versus new gear that is available, is the regeneration of Spell Points via the Torc/Epic Torc, and the ConOp Goggles. The Torc has Transform Kinetic Energy, so when you're getting hit, you're getting a chance to have spell points returned, and the same applies to the ConOp goggles. The only other item in the game that has Transform Kinetic Energy is Toven's Hammer/Legendary Toven's Hammer. The other aspect of the gear used that you don't really get in the same capacity with new gear, is all of the offensive/defensive procs that the gear would generate, which adds significantly to DPS and self-damage reduction.

I am currently working on the TR train, so I can go back to being a PM. I just need to work out a guild build using my current gear and the reworked trees. I also need to flag for Shroud again so I can make my GS Lit II and ConOp handwraps since I have loads of mats from all my previous runs, and I don't need an essence since they're weapons.

I figured I'd throw this in as well.
