    Default New player

Looking for a straight forward build for an extremely new player. Prefer caster/healer. First life & no tomes. I tend to solo in games and don't get into the end game much so just want a viable character to start. I am trying out classes before deciding where to focus.

    Thank you.

Personally, I recommend Barbarian or Paladin for a new player. EK Wizard isn’t bad either but just a little more complex. Took me a few times running around as a guy with a big sword smacking stuff to get the hang of things at first. If you are VIP, play Warlock, it’s still very good for newbies in heroics.

    Try the build repository.

It has a lot of good builds, so there should be something that strikes your fancy and fills your needs.

Builds are listed by main class, and include specifically new player builds.

    Hope this is some help.

I looked there but didn't see anything for alchemist. Maybe I just missed it. Thank you

Also checkout some of the build Strimtom put up for s4 of hardcore; several of them are for f2p and since they're for hardcore, they're designed to be solid for 1st lifers without tomes. https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...uilds-Season-4

As I am going along and figuring this out. Can you reset things to fix mistakes like spell choices and feats etc.. Or is it possible to make a fatal error that makes you reroll a new toon?

The Repository was compiled and posted before Alchemist came out. And the author is no longer active, so no editing. Shame. :/

Both are possible, depending exactly what we're talking about.

Enhancements are easily changed - some plat, done. No limit (but it gets more expensive).

Spells are easily changed, just talk to a trainer (for the class that provided the spell) - some plat, some days if you want more than 1 changed (3/ iirc), done.

It's free to change one (1) Feat to another legal one, and not too expensive to change more (esp if you catch it early!) - see the Wiki here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Fred#Feat_respec

Each new toon gets a "Lesser Heart of Wood", that allows the build to do a Lesser Reincarnation, essentially a "start over" with diff stats, feat choices, appearance(!), etc, BUT MUST keep the same classes in the original progression.

For some DDO Points, you can buy a "+# Lesser Heart of Wood", where # = the number of levels you can change the class. So a +3 Lesser HoW lets you change 3 levels to another class, etc. (There are some additional limits - READ THE WIKI if you intend to use this!)

    o https://ddowiki.com/page/Lesser_Rein..._Reincarnation

But, yes - there are some mistakes that are fatal, or almost so. If you don't want to spend 1,000's of DDO Points fixing it, the only choices are to abandon the character, or gimp your way to 20 and TR/RR the old-fashioned way.

And the moral of this story is... HAVE A PLAN. In fact, have a blueprint, a detailed level-by-level road map for how everything will go and will fit together.

The best tool for this is a "character planner" - there are 2 atm, one simpler, one more complex. I like this one (the simpler one) -

(The other is also very popular, as it shows every detail for end-game considerations: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...racter+planner
But for a new player, the simpler one, just to get a build that "works". )

Yes, you can fix with a Lesser Reincarnation https://ddowiki.com/page/Reincarnation

With a Lesser Hear of Wood you can respec you character completely, while retaining race, gender, alignment and class. What that means is you can reset your feats, spells, stats and all that but you can't change your class.

To change a class you will need a +N Heart of Wood where the N refers to the number of class changes you can make. Be careful and plan this out, because you are still limited to having a max of 3 classes at any given time.

It depends on how much of a change you want to make. Quick summary:

    Feats:
You can swap out feats by talking to an NPC in the House Jorasco are - information is here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Fred. And, you can get one feat switch for free if you do a short non combat quest called Hall of the Mark:https://ddowiki.com/page/Hall_of_the_Mark. After that, you need to use in-game resources to switch feats; amounts are small at low levels, but scale up at higher levels.

    Enhancements:
These can be changed at will in game by spending some platinum.

    Spells:
Assuming you took a class that permanently memorizes spells (Sorceror, Favoured Soul, Bard, Warlock), you can exchange spells by talking to a class trainer, for a cost of platinum.

Ability points (Strength, Wisdom etc.) and class levels can't be changed normally. There is a way to redo most of your character choices, but you need to buy an item from the cash store - if you're interested in this, the info on the process is here, but I wouldn't recommend doing this as a new player: https://ddowiki.com/page/Lesser_Reincarnation.

If you feel you messed up the character enough to change everything, it's probably better to just start a new one.
