I'm liking the build for leveling but ditched the charisma and sheildbreaker from KotC for strike-through and that exalted greater cleave. Also thinking of using vistani of all things because it gives doublestrike in core and attack speed action boost.

Not much. At the top end it's a 6% damage loss if you have a perfect character. Shouldn't effect it in a major way.

    Default Dragon Color

After reading the ddo page the build is on and here in the comments; Is there any reason for the specific color of the dragon?

Same question asked on the Youtube sight; didn't know if either was being monitored.

My guess would be for the Riding the Storm Out raid.

Also, for a first life character, it might be a struggle to get workable Dire Charge DCs. An
option would be to focus more on Shatter for Divine Retribution - it's a Will save and
should start with a higher base DC. As a first life Pali, one would also start out in a Divine
ED making it easier to take Deific Warding.

    Default Newb Question

Sorry if I'm missing something... but with this build, it appears that the favored weapon is a longsword... but the enhancements tend toward a two-handed weapon... why? What am I missing?

This build takes advantage of KotC's Holy Combatant: "You gain Greatsword as a Favored Weapon." So you can pick your deity based on which level 6 feat you want, rather than its favored weapon.

A Forgotten Realms Iconic race (except Morninglord) has the option of taking Silvanus which grants mauls as a Favored weapon as well as Blessing of Silvanus (+2 critical threat range with mauls).

It seems you started with a 32 point build as well, so right off the bat if i just got into the game, just bought it and picked up feydark illusionist tree, i cant make the build from the start because i only have 28 points. I try to follow some of your builds to help me out but seems there is always something i dont have as a new player. anyways ty for the vid ; ]

Has there been an update to this build with the new Enactment system ??
The veiw from the top is not as important as the climb to get there.

    Default 2022 update;

The build is great, but with the changes to EDS and some epic stuff, and the introduction to isle of dread I have asked Tom what stuff he has changed and have been playing around. 1st thing is, the epic feat for TWF is now replaced with the double strike feat, as the old TWF in epic gave the double strike and no long does. You can also replace the reflex save feat in epics with crush weakness as the amount of cc in end game has increased exponentially but isn't mandatory for the build just a preference of mine. And I took the legendary toughness feat at lvl 31, for the extra health for raids and higher reaper. The dino bone sword great sword is an amazing non raid weapon as well, I upgraded it as Fire, Untype Damage, +2 exceptional CHA, and stacks of invonerabiltiy. With Metoeirc star ruby, and the Life Taker augment from Witch hunt. You also dont need the raid necklace anymore for part of the fmaily, as you can find a double strike 15% augment for lvl 30+. And lasty considering getting the demonic prowess augmnts from isle of dread for the 120 temp hp that stacks with the fatesinger ED. Just some stuff I changed from the origional build for anyone who is doing this build in the later years.

You see, people asked me for a feydark paladin build and I wanted to make sure I delivered on that expectation so here you have it, the feydark paladin that is first life ready for levelling and fun. If you want a detailed description of the build and performance, please see video:

Without further ado, here is the build with no tomes or anything needed for success. Important note, this build does use the defensive stance which increases threat generation, which could cause future issues with aggro during raids, which is something to consider.

Hey, thanks a lot for this, I'm a casual solo player LRing for this and I was wondering about changes. So thanks a lot :-) Any suggestions on what to use about Epic Destinies stuff?

Regarding the epic destinies, there are some things you'll have to change for obvious reasons. Tom was using 5 different destinies via twisting, which you cannot do anymore (Fate Singer, Sentinel, Primal Avatar, GMOF and Shadow Dancer).

    Primary ED: Fatesinger (still)
So the first thing is that your main destiny will still be Fatesinger, obviously. Most of what was there before still works, and it's overall still a solid destiny to mix in with a variety of Paladin builds.

Secondary ED: Divine Crusader (because you're a Paladin)
The second one you prioritize is probably going to be Divine Crusader since that features Endless Smiting, which is something that Tom was using before (Endless got moved from Sentinel to Crusader). Here you may want to decide if you'd rather use the epic strike from DC instead of Fate Singer. There's pros and cons to both DC and FS's epic strikes. You could use both but I find mixing epic strikes to be annoying because of the shared cooldowns. Regardless, you def want to get Divine Smiting from DC since it boosts Smite Evil and also adds a very nice aoe heal effect.

Also, fwiw, the epic strike from crusader requires at least a 22 point investment to unlock its stun feature. You may be better off saving your destiny points and just getting endless smiting so you can spend them on another tree. If you have more dp unlocked via tomes and epic past lives (which Paladins benefit tremendously from imo), you of course will have more flexibility.

    Third ED: Your choice
For the third destiny, you're left with whatever you have left over from fate and dc.

    - Unyielding Sentinel is a viable option since 7 points in there will get you renewal, which is a great healing spell that easily replaces cure serious wounds.

    - Primal Avatar is OK if you are short on points since it gets you regeneration cocoon. Downside there is it is not a martial destiny (no melee power or HP bonus) and regeneration cocoon is not as good of a healing spell IMO as renewal.

    - Legendary Dreadnought is also a decent option if you don't want more healing potential and instead want to get the action point boosts, weapon bonuses and healing amplification and bonus HP. Note: I do NOT recommend getting dire charge since it would take 22 points to fully realize its potential and at that point you're looking at a completely different build.

    - Shadow Dancer - Not as much synergy as the others, but since it is a martial destiny, you will get more melee power. Also will give you some reflex saves (which Dragonborn can always use) and dimension door ability is cool.

    - Fury of the Wild - This has some potential since it will get you more HP and melee power. IMO though, if you are interested in fury of the wild, you should consider going the Fury/Exalted Angel/Divine Crusader route instead. It works very well on a Dragonborn THF Paladin, especially if they get whirlwind, dodge and mobility.

    Other thoughts:

    - This build IMO works pretty well with a shield / vanguard spec also. However, I wouldn't recommend it unless you just happen to like Vanguard or want to try something different. Vanguard IMO is just not a very flexible spec.

    - Since this build benefits a lot from temporary HP, you may want to consider getting bright horn from isle of dread. You can go with melt horn instead if you'd rather have dust, but then you'll probably be healing yourself more often. Up to you.

As I'm new to playing paladins and melee types that use Fatesinger, I'm not 100% on what you want to take. Do you mind covering the items you prioritize spending on from that tree for this build?

Fatesinger does look more offensive but many things in the tree seem questionable for a paladin so I appreciate hearing more about how it plays for this build.

For instance, does the sonic damage on the mantle and epic strike add up on a paladin enough? Do the temp HP from the mantle make much of a difference? How important is Majesty for avoiding Cha stat damage? I'm guessing you'd like the Martial Hymn with the mantle. Shout it Out: Very very vocal seemed like it could be nice with the 3 sec stun but do you use discord enough with 3 chords of fate? For Cut the Strings, can a paladin land it enough to make it worth taking?

My natural inclination would be to look at Divine Crusader as the better ED but maybe you can cherry pick the Endless Smite and get more elsewhere. DC's mantle and epic strike have more of a defensive bent so is that why you would lean more toward FS?

    - The Sonic damage does surprisingly well. It isn't going to be as powerful as if you were using Primal Scream from Fury of the Wild, but it still is good for helping with doing slayers, weak monsters, etc. However, I still would strongly recommend getting an item that boosts sonic spell power. You may also want to consider putting a couple skill points into Perform (perform scales with Charisma and increases sonic spell power).

    - It takes a bit of practice, but I've found its pretty easy to get used to the whole "save discord for 3 chords of fate" rule.

    * Also, the Epic Strike ends up working out better than you'd expect due to Reign (thunder bolt on vorpal) and also if you invest enough into Divine Crusader and pick up Purge The Wicked. That being said, you can opt to go with the epic strike from Divine Crusader instead if you'd prefer the extra healing, damage and CC. Just be aware that a lot of monsters love to run out of the consecration circles.

    - The temporary hp does make a surprisingly big difference and you can add to it a bit further with virtue and divine righteousness. *

    * Something else to consider with the temporary HP is that it stacks with a lot of other sources of temporary HP (I.E. Brighthorn from Dread, Legendary Demonheart Emerald from Dread, the epic strike Guard Up, etc). It's something to consider for running higher level content than normal solo or if you want to make yourself just more durable. The thing about this too is that if you start to feel like your temp HP isn't as necessary, you can swap out temp HP sources for more damage or whatever your prefer.

    - Majesty has limited usefulness IMO. I would only recommend getting it if you just hate fighting the Koprus on isle of dread solo or if you just hate losing charisma in general. Otherwise, I haven't found any memorable places where it shines.

    - Martial Resonance is definitely the more likable of the options for the mantle. I tested out the Divine resonance and I don't think its as good as the Martial when it comes to Paladins.

    - For Shout It Out, you want to get Greatest Shout. It's a very reliable long range AOE CC (even in end game reaper). It has a pretty fast cast animation and decent damage as well, so it's easy to mix it into your regular combos. The only thing it really doesn't CC are the obvious bosses, undead and anything else that doesn't hear.

    * This is a spot where you may want to consider augmenting greatest shout with consecration's cower effect. Up to you, but it does make things easier until you are more durable and do not need as much CC to keep monsters from chewing down your HP too fast.

    - Cut The String is a bit iffy. I've found it needs more +enchantment DC stuff for it to work reliably in end game and even then, the insta kill effect is pretty random. IT DOES work on Reapers and pretty much any monster that can dance, which is cool. My best advice is to probably avoid it if you think you're not going to be investing into getting the DCs up to make it worth using. I personally haven't tested out any build variations to try and improve the DCs either, so I don't know if it's even doable without sacrificing too much that cuts into the martial focus of the Paladin class itself.

One thing I will admit is I prefer going strength on a Paladin (in this and regular D&D for obvious reasons). I think Fury of The Wild is overall a better primary/secondary ED for THF Paladins right now, and Fury kinda pushes you towards strength IMO. I still like this build and I tend to alternate between it and Fury on epic reincarnations.
