Default Scourge: Should I go WIS or DEX

Haven't done a Scourge yet, I see lots of pros and cons to going either DEX or WIS (with falconry tree WIS to hit and damage). What would y'all recommend?

What weapons are you using, and are you going pure?

The first question is more important. If you're going the thematic Scourge route, some of those aren't light melee weapons and therefore can't benefit from Tempest Core #2, which gives Dex to Hit with those. Tempest Core #3 gives Dex to damage with those weapons, and Deepwood Stalker T2 gives Dex to damage with any Dex-to-hit weapons, but AFAIK there isn't a way to get Dex-to-hit with Heavy Maces or Morningstars. If you're using either of those, go Str or Wis.

Pure Rangers get a bit of a boost from Dex because the Tempest Capstone gives 4 of it (and that juicy offhand doublestrike). If you're going all the way up to T4 Falconry for the trance (or splashing FvS), Wis will probably be better across the board. If not, Wis will give you some other perks (see Lupito's linked thread) and Dex will give you better Reflex saves. Str probably gives a bit more damage than either, but lower survivability

You always go strength or dex primary, trance stat secondary, on any melee that doesn't have to hit specific non-strength non-dex dependent DCs, to reduce the amount of times you are 100-0 killed in trip.

A blight in feywild, for example, will trip you on a trip save of 60, which is a roll of 10 + 50 bonus from stat (110 stat). You want 120-130 strength or dex by end game to reduce the amount of trips.

...or just hit the block button for a half-second when the "snared" notification pops up. Works on driders in Sschind too

At a certain level of Tumble, or with a separate feat, you should be able to hit that feat and spring up immediately.

I don't have effect notifications turned on, because it breaks immersion.

You probably didn't have 100 bonus for your trip save because it is a save that ONLY uses the higher of your strength or dex mod, and it is not a reflex save.
