want to play ddo online with android tab

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a Galaxy tab to play even when i'm in the undeground going to my office ! This tab is an android machine ... but i cn't play to my favorite game on it ....

do you plan to perform a player for android like some othe MMO RPG ?

No. Trying to play DDO on my Kindle Fire would be.......difficult......at best. I can't even imagine how someone could. No mouse, no keyboard, no F keys.........

Apparantly yes, since the game will soon be able to be streamed right to your device via the Turbine cloud server. I just think it would not be playable the way we are used to. I know some people will try it anyway and get a PuG wiped because they couldn't contribute properly.

The cloud is playing with no download...I seriously doubt even the newer galaxy tab 10.1 can handle the graphics.

You can try using vpn or something like splashtop. It isn't great, but I can check inventory and auction house and such.

Well it DOES say any internet connected device, and my Kindle Fire is internet connected through WiFi, so perhaps it's possible. Without input devices though I can't see HOW one could play the game. How would you move with no AWSD keys? How would you cast a spell with no number keys? It seems like it would have to have an entire redesigned interface in order to be playable.

you can get boyh keyboard and mouce to a tablet. so if the graph can do it on the tablet its just a matter of turbine makeing the game work on a android.

I'll have to take your word for what you say. As far as I know this can't be done with a Kindle, which is what I'm basing my replies on, because that's what I have.

i would just ask for a browser version of the game instead =P don't mind about graphic as long as i can play..

I can't imagine how they would make the interface work on a touch screen. The format simply does not work, the CPU does not have the power to push the pixels, and if it's done via remoting you'd have some serious lag problems. I have an Asus Transformer, a fairly high end Android tablet, and I'd be leery of this.

Regardless, it doesn't have the horsepower of a "real" tablet (i.e.: one originally designed for the purpose). I know you can make one do the job, but the specs just aren't there, and even the best tablets don't have the power to really run the game. I am thinking they are doing some form of remote control where a real computer is slaved through the internet to your tablet, which is going to create another whole can of worms.

I would really hate to see DDO be turned into a cloud computed game.
1: It's just too big and complicated.
2: The bandwidth usage would also be a crippling factor.
2a: Anyone without top grade internet will be at a major disadvantage. I can download at a max of 1.5Mbps. It would be unplayable for 90% of the people.
3: It isnt needed and will not expand the growth of the game enough to be worth it.
4: Some of us have internet caps. Streaming video is a great way to reach that cap :/

Cloud computing might be great but it has its place and this game is not it.
As for streamed video gaming... not at the moment. The benefits do not outweigh the drawbacks.
Whats this going to cost the end user ?? It wont be free.

On a side note I think the project will be scrapped... I have yet to see streamed video games be successful.

Hesitant to find out how good it can be.
May try it out when released, if free and just based on my current subscription.
If it's a separate fee, then forget it.

The difference is that streaming videos get a buffer (probably about 5 seconds) and that buffer gets used to keep the video going at a constant rate.
It cannot be compared to streaming video games. There is way too much going on in the background, and the best way to handle it is locally on your PC.

Ah yes the buffer would make Netflix somewhat of an unfair comparison, although I would think a strong and steady bandwidth would be the biggest hurdle there.

I'm sure the technology would be similar to Onlive and they do advertise using tablets and even smart phones on their website. Either way I'll watching with interest.

That's the whole point. A tablet could possibly stream DDO, but the lag between the servers and the real computer running DDO, compounded with the lag between the real computer and your tablet, would make the game difficult to play. On top of that, you need some way to simulate the many controls (keyboard, mouse, hotbars) on the tablet, it's not a one-way experience the way NetFlix is. Think it through.
