What happens when you start a 2nd XP pot?

If I am running a 30% XP pot and it has 3 hours left on it and I choose to drink a 3 hour 50% XP pot what happens to my XP bonus right after that?

1. I am running at 50% bonus XP for 3 hours followed by 30% bonus XP.

2. I am running at 30% bonus XP for 3 hours followed by 50% bonus XP.

3. Something else?

I don't want to use the 50% pot until I am sure that I am going to get the effect immediately.

The higher bonus will be active, and the lower bonus suppressed until the higher bonus runs out.
