Default Why are my necro dc's so crappy?

I am attempting a DC warlock for the first time, and when my friend played it, he said it was amazing and nothing saved against him. Well, I am having difficulties, as many things are saving against me. I have all the necro dc feats, all the dc/spell pen enhancements from the soul eater tree, spell penetration gear, dc gear, spellsight gear, anything that you might ask for improving the dc of your necro spells, yet my dc still remains low. My friend and I are both puzzled on why I am having these difficulties, and I am looking for solutions on how to improve my dc. Pc won't let me post pictures of what I have set up but if you have any questions just ask and I will answer.

DC builds take work to hit that sweet spot of near no fail.
Getting the Charisma as high as you can and getting aligned gear to get you on the path is needed to make this work.

    some Charisma stuff..

    Race/Class
    18 Stat: Base
    2 Raceragonborn, Drow, Tiefling
    8 Tomes
    7 Level Ups
    2 Heroic Completionist
    3 Racial past lives
    2 Racial Completionist

    Enhancements/Destiny/Reaper
    2 Racial
    6 Soul Eater(core cap)
    2 Tainted Scholar
    1 Falconry
    1 Harper
    6 Enlightened Spirit(4 tiers/2 stance) could do 6 tiers)
    x Twists of cha
    5 Reaper points

    Gear
    22 Enhancement Artifact
    10 Insightful
    5 Quality
4 Artifact set bonus: like flameccleaned Fury
    5 Artifact Filigree(Thread Turn-in 2x2.+1 whatever cha)
2 Sentience Filigree (Sets: Otto/Beholder..could do all cha for +9 and lose 4 dc from set bonuses)
    2 Litany/gear profane
    2 Alchemical from LOB/MA)
2 Exceptional Greensteel offhand weapon (or lesser +1 True Blood Augment )
2 Reaper +2 all stats bonus from rare find named helmet

    Buffs
    2 Ship
    2 Store/Remnant potion
    2 Yugo

Warlocks have lower DC potential than other classes. The key thing is targeting the right enemy with the right spell. So you want to target low will-save enemies with devour and hurl (in my case absolute zero) - so generally melees although devour will work on a large range of enemies. You want to target low-fort saves with your 2 fingers of death. In places like Sharn there are many more high-fortitude save enemies so as a general rule you want to target casters and artificers with finger if you aren't sure. Don't waste your finger of death on a melee in sharn.

One item of high value to a warlock is pendant of bottled moonlight, but I haven't done thorough enough testing yet to confirm it's working exactly as it should. It automatically applies a crushing despair effect on enemies targeted with necromancy spells without a save. This means your effective DC of death to undeath and devour the soul is 7 higher. Your effective DC of finger of death and wail of the banshee is 2 higher. That doesn't suck and is well worth slotting a different artifact than sigil of regalport.

As a side note, I find the 1-2 punch of evard's black tentacles and greater color spray from feydark illusionist to be very effective. You can wail inside that group to soften them up before energy burst, eldritch wave and any other burst you have. I will often cast tentacles + greater color spray and then cast arcane tempest above the group - which takes a bit of getting used to how to target - it works much the same as undeath to death for targetting. Even though I focus on necromancy I use my other spells more. I mainly focus on necromancy as it's the only way to get DC high enough to be useful.

I have 3 U48 builds with different DCs in the warlock build in my sig. I show a detailed Charisma and DC breakdown on all 3. Keep in mind that not all bonuses I list are needed. For example if you don't have completionist, racial completionist or a reaper hat bonus your spells will still work if you target the right enemies with the right spells.

I am currently using a bladeforged warlock 20 in magister (requires a +1 heart). I am planning to post videos soon showing how to solo almost all the level 30+ quests in the game on R4+ on a warlock DC caster (I skip a few like TOEE part 2) for people that are new to reapear.

Did you, uh, maximize filigrees? Double eye, double otto, tons of raid charisma filigrees?

As Sladen pointed out necro on a Warlock is not amazing in the hardest content.

Your dcs up to about ravenloft should be solid, but have to be picky in higher content. Lucky they also have will based single target to work through and you can always lock them down in between.

The Myth- TR will make my character powerful
The Reality- Those kobolds in Water Works won’t have a chance but nothing else cares-Learn to play your build and all its abilities in actual difficult content, get gear and reaper points in level 30+ content and raids.

I should have detailed it. A Wizard compared to a warlock:

    +3: Spell Level 9 vs. 6
+3: 4 points of necromancy DC in pm, am vs. 1 in soul eater
    +1: Festive Int Augment
    - .5: 2 int vs. 3 charisma in racial tree
+.5: +1 int with filigree due to raid filigree sets

Wizard has a 7 higher DC potential compared to warlock if both are in magister, but comparing a wizard in magister to a warlock in exalted angel increases that difference by 5:

    +3: 6 DC in cores vs +3
    -1: Angelic Presence
    +3: Master of Necromancy

That is a total difference of +12 comparing a wizard in magister to a warlock in exalted angel. So if you want to play at the highest level you really want to play in magister. This is fine in a party, but soloing in magister for warlock sucks except for bladeforged. A wizard focusing on illusion for the triple PK can go even higher with DC (a build in my sig documents DC potential for an illusionist wizard).

Warlock should receive some DC boosts in the future similar to Bard considering the main reason warlock DC support in enhancement trees is low is that forumites on Lamannia argued it was unfair to give warlocks DC bonuses due to synergies with exalted angel providing +4 compared to wizard which is now an obsolete argument. Still, all is not lost for warlock as the proper way to use necromancy has ALWAYS been targeting the right enemies with the right spells rather than trying to get to a magic number.

So while I certainly expect the devs to buff warlock DC at some point, in the meantime warlocks should focus using devour/hurl/freezing ice on low will-save enemies and use the 2 finger of deaths on low fort-save enemies. Even in high end content I don't find a lack of valid targets, but obviously I need to select targets differently than a wizard does.
