    Default named items drop rate

I'm running sharn on elite and did 6 quests with out a single named items drop.

I can't stress how frustrating this is.

Rates says on elite the chance is 33% but 6 quests and not a single named item?

Why not have a collectable there then in case something like this happen i gat a chance to get something instead of wasting my time.

It has been like this for years. Sometimes you get nothing for a while, then they start dropping (the ones you really dont want first of course). And once you get what you really want, it drops again fairly often afterwards.

If you value your time more than money, then you have the option of using Astral Shards to reroll the chest. Or bring some friends/guildies to help you pull the item(s) you need. I do both.

You mean the option to gamble my money for a chance to get something?
    Doesn't this sound scummy?

This! If I'm item farming I try to do it with as many people as possible. We just helped a guildie pull an item from a sharn quest. Got it on the 2 run. Helps having 4-5 extra pullers.

This is a system inherent "problem" in DDO and the question is basically if you like it or not and this may decide if you like DDO at all or not.
I can imagine many players decided after such a frustrating moment to stop playing DDO rather than going to the forum and tell the problem they have with DDO.

e.g. I have my second character trying to get an Abbot Quiver and after 3 (three) 20 completions reward lists I still don't have the quiver.
Yes, there is a "trick" I used because this list rerolls after an ER but imagine a player actually did 60 raid completions and he still doesn't have the item he wants.
And the big problem is who tells me that I get the quiver after the next try or even after 10 more tries?
With the new rune system, this problem is mostly solved but we still have old raids with these 20 completions rule.
And with the new rune system, you still cannot get items with reaper or mythic boosts.

The same for you, you got no item after 6 quests, but who tells you you get any item in the next 6 quests?
Yes, I know it is unlikely that you don't, but alone the possibility makes the current system bad in my opinion.

What the developers should do is to try to work out a system for raids AND normal quests where you always get something and not these sometimes frustrating all or nothing luck system.

The general rule for items should be in my opinion ALWAYS something and in addition, a luck-based possible bonus that only decides how fast you get what you want.
And I think it is also bad that you can get the best of the best item in one very lucky try (e.g. you can loot a named helm with reaper and mythic bonus at the first try with a lot luck)

In my opinion, the developers should start an open discussion with players and work out loot rules DDO can follow for the next decade with only minor changes.

Right, throw money at SSG as a reward for making bad loot rules to encourage them to make even worse loot rules you can bypass with throwing even more money at them.

Not to mention there it is no guarantee at all that you get the item you want no matter how often you pull out your wallet.

Do you not see that this doesn't solve the inherent problem that there is a small chance that you still don't get what you want?
It happened already to me that we ransacked a chest with a whole group and we still don't get what we wanted for one player.
The current rule has the big advantage that it is relatively simple to code and mostly sufficient but for sure not ideal.

    I rolled a 2, then a 1, then a 2 followed by another 2 last night when casting knock.
I suspect the same coding is used for the chest drops as well.
If you have a garbage result when you first open the chest, you'll likely have the same garbage result if you reroll. Save your astral shards for guild amenity upgrades and the AH.
It's a shame the chest ransack is flagged when you open the chest rather than emptying the chest out. (leave all the garbage, recall, rerun= no ransack)

Two solutions already exist to solve your problem. You can opt into either, or ignore at your discretion. Choosing whether time or money is more important is a personal calculus equation.

Helps but not guaranteed. Took me 5 full chains with a full group to get 3 items out of the 7 I need for a specific toon. Some items I haven't ever seen drop. EE / R1. And over time the pool of people willing to run the same quests over and over shrinks rapidly.

Farming Sharn gear is a pain.

That's a false dychotomy. True enlightenment is recognizing that one system (AS rerolls) feeds the other (unsatisfying named loot drops). Like in the casino, the best solution is not to play.

Just wanted to drop another reminder that anyone whose main server is not Wayfinder but who created test characters on other servers including Wayfinder, has Wayfinder characters who each have 50 +10% named item potions. The potions are tied to the server, but bound to account.

That boost is very noticeable and also affects artifact drop rates. I found it worth it to pay the 25 bucks for the transfer. Others might as well.

I'm in the same boat with the Sharn loot - there are some items i'd love but have not seen drop despite many runs on both heroic and epic (heroic R2 and LH, LE and LR1). Only myself to blame so no complaints - i'm fully aware groups are the way to go to score the nice loot - maybe one day i'll try asking around for a little help

I had the same frustration with the new xpac, especially with the chest ransack mechanic. So I capped my hardcore toon which I had transferred. I rolled a sorc and capper her as well. So I had 21 chest pulls for a single chest before ransack. I also had Greater/Lesser elixir of discovery from daily dice. Had all the named items I wanted in couple of hours.

    TLDR:

    1) Have capped alts able to solo EE/upto R4 (each R increases drop rate by 1%).
    2) Bring people if you can (go r8/r10 if party can do it)
    3) Drink Greater/lesser elixir of discovery.
    4) Re-roll using Astral shards (if you can afford).

I cant tell you how many YEARS I went looking for a blood stone. A friend gave me one eventually. By the time I eventually got one on my own, they were useless.

    This.

Complain about drop rates all you want, when you eventually get all your personal BiS items, they will be outdated by the newest loot. It's a GAME. It's also a game you can't WIN. You're supposed to have fun. If you're not, try something else. Complaining about a RNG system is like complaining that you have played the lottery for a decade buying 5 tickets a week and still haven't won.
Dennis the Peasant: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Nope, how you can "win" items in DDO (or other MMORPGs) is just a matter of how the developers of the game decide it and it is not a natural rule (or god-given if you are religious).
And for this reason, it is for sure not senseless to complain because if enough complain the developers may change it.

Of course not but gambling for items in a game with real money is for sure not the only and best way to fund DDO, for my part I think this is at least questionable.
